Wireless configuration help is needed

So, i'm back after my PC has gone the bad the worse i'm with it back online but i manage to enter on the
Xbox Live(after a long fight  i finally won ) but i was using my neighbour's wifi net and now
it seems that they don't spot too much at home, as i used my notebook to enter on the wifi i decided to try the other ones that are active all of the day, well the results were that i couldn't connect with all of the wireless connections available then came the thing that brought me to this point i was conncting on a wifi with 802.11g and there was another wifi with 802.11b and this one the note didn't connected, then i tried to connect with another 802.11g connection and didn't worked as well i did some research and there was some people saying that was configuration, i tried to make it all by myself but didn't gave me any results because i didn't knew what to configure so i got confuse. Now i want to know what i need to configure to make this work.
