Please help this BC noob :D
« on: February 23, 2012, 10:38:25 PM »
Greetings good people of this wonderful forum!

I want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone responsible for the amazing DS9FX mod :D

I went to try the very first mission the one that asks me to patrol the other side of the wormhole, after flying around for a bit i thought maybe it meant the other side as in the gamma quadrant, so i went for a trip (AWESOME GRAPHICS!! :) ) into the gamma quadrant, and there are 3 Jem Hadar ships that kick my arse on the other side lol so i've given up that mission for now :)

Now, i simply need some help please with a couple of things :

1) I select mini missions and the description says that i can use any ship i want. Now, the only way i found to change ships (say switch to the Defiant for example) is to transfer myself to that ship via the life support menu, but, i get the message that 'this ship cannot enter the wormhole'...

so..is there a simple way to switch ships in this Mod? Is there some kind of 'choose your ship' menu at the start of every mission? Also, is there a way to have wingmen, like for example to ask the Defiant to join me? I have no clue...

2)If i complete a mission, will my progress be saved for the next time i play DS9 FX ?

3)i dont get the yellow menu lines as shown in the tutorial, however they are fully functional, i think everything is there, is that ok?

4)Finally, can i control my warp speed as shown in the tutorial? Also, is there a faster way for in system travel? And why are my energy settings (sensors and engines) randomly reduced sometimes?

Thank you for your time :)

I have been re watching every single DS9 episode in this last month, and i have really been sucked deeply into it, im in season 6 now (approaching the end!! :( ) so this mod is an absolutely amazing companion to the show!

Wish you all the best

1) You chose the ship like normal from the very start. You could even do that if you have the latest KM version.

2) Im pretty sure it does this though i've never actually played them.

3) If everything seems to be working fine then I wouldn't worry about it.

4) You can change your warp speed before you enter warp.

5) In-system warp is all there is.

6) They are reduced because the combined engery consumption is larger than what your core can put out. So obviously you gotta pay attention to that before and after each fight.
All hail the messiah!

1. By that I meant you're free to select any kind of ship when starting quick battle, as opposed to Historic missions where you're given a predefined ship. System specific ships are prevented from entering the wormhole, so these are the only ones which you cannot control.
2. Your progress is saved only for campaign missions as the mini missions and historic missions are not really at all related.
3. This is a separate mod not included in DS9FX and not made by the DS9FX team. It's also never mentioned in the documentation that we're supplying a new BC theme in DS9FX.
4. This is also a separate mod called Change Warp Speed 2.0 made by us and is a separate download.

Thank you for your great replies gentlemen :)

Your point explain a lot!

So when it comes to choosing any ship i want, that basically applies only to an actual quick battle/skirmish whereas when it comes to the actual DS9FX missions, both Campaign and Historic or Mini missions, i can only use the ship that i have, aka the Sovereign, right? Sorry to pester you with this i just want to be 100% sure that i am not playing this mod the wrong way! :)

Is it safe to assume then that i don't have to worry about changing ships myself in the missions, and that i will be given the control of a different one when the mission requires it and it will happen automatically?

Thank you for your time again! Great mod!!

All the best :)

Yes.

Just remember that DS9FX saves your initial ship selection for the campaigns so if you started the campaign with a Galaxy class ship every mission from that particular campaign will assign you the same galaxy class ship. After the mission is complete you will be reverted to the original ship you started the QB with.

Yes, it's all automatic. Ship assigning and restoring after the mission ends.
