Check this out... I was a stunned as you guys
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=187401

I had been using my Macbook pro but lets face it, I needz to get meh desktop workin! I am on a budget here so I figure best bang for the buck is the GTX560 Ti and picked up the MSI twin frozrII version so I can get a little more out of it through overclocking. The damn computer won't boot when the drivers are installed.

-With no drivers installed, it boots with limited resolution and no real graphics capabilities.
-With nvidia drivers installed, computer locks up at the starting windows screen. It will still start up in safe mode.
-Uninstalling the drivers again in safe mode allows me to boot up normally again like the first bullet point.
-Going one or two versions older in the drivers has no effect.
-I used Driver Sweeper to attempt to completely remove any remaining driver remnants, but it doesn't seem to be getting them all. Regardless, when I go to the control panel to uninstall the drivers the conventional way, it DOES say there are none left.

I am at my wits end here. According to the thread I linked, some motherboards are simply not compatible with any 400 series,  and some 500 series cards. The confusing thing though, is even though this seems to be the problem, someone mentioned in the thread that my Mobo should work! I need the best engineers in Starfleet people. I need the miracle workers!

The last beta driver is from Jan 31'st. Two official driver versions have come out since then. Is it still worth trying it?

I've had similar problems with my PC, try reseating the card in the PCI-E slot, or try a different slot, you may also have a bad GFX card, powersupply or mobo

I think the card is seated fine and the card okay or I wouldn't get an image on the monitor. Are there any tests to determine if the mobo is bad?

I've had bad cards, and cards with bad connections, that do still work with the windows VGA driver, even though it doesn't make any sense.  Your best bet is to take it into a computer repair shop (not Geeksquad, they don't know squat about computers) and have someone look it over.

thanks for the advice. im installing the older beta drivers now and used a registry cleaner to remove a considerable amount of errors. we'll see if this has any result.

Seems like the new card is stable. I moved it to another PCI slot and re-wiped the registry. Then I installed the newest drivers in safe mode, which is something I hadn't done before. Normally I update drivers under normal boot.

When I plugged the card back into the original slot, it was unresponsive again. This is unfortunate considering now the fans are sucking hot hair off the PSU a centimeter away directly into the heat sink. Temps seem ok so far. I'll keep an eye on it. Obviously won't be attempting any over clocking for the time being lol.

My old card stopped working in either PCI slot so It's probably a good idea to pick up a new motherboard when I can. The computer still takes longer than it should to get through those initial "starting windows" and "welcome" screens with the rotating circular cursor still locking up for periods of time. Hopefully it keeps chugging through them in the future.
