*crawls out of the woodwork*

get your butt in production with skins, kiddo, I'd download every one of those in a heartbeat.

oh, that one with the oval saucer?  reminds me a lot of an Oberth, for some reason.  I can see that as a science ship.

Here's my new ship I've been modeling that I started on Friday night.  I made it with a lot of flat surfaces so that I can try my hand at texturing.  I don't really know anything about photoshop but I watched the tutorial for how to make textures using 3ds max in the tutorial forum and I'm going to try and make my textures that way.  Wish me luck!

Obviously the ship is inspired by the Galaxy Class, but it's supposed to be much smaller.  I intend to use the nacelles on other ships in the future and try to create some continuity.

That saucer looks like a combination of the Galaxy Class (for obvious reasons), as well as the TMP Connie (with it's lower "sensor dome" in place of the Captain's Yacht).

You definitely have a talent for ship design. Cookied :)

Very nice. How about putting a phaser strip on the belly?

Good luck with the textures.

I spent way too much time on this today. :coffee:

I made all the windows black for now because I haven't figured out a way to make them look realistic when lit.  :banghead:  Anybody have any ideas?

She?s looking very good!   :dance
The windows are textures, right?
I 3ds max, for distance shots, I suggest to fill the windows with the default smoke (or spekle) material, using a light blue and white combination (just adjust the tile and mirror to fits your taste). For games, I think it can works too.
Therefore, if you?re aiming something more perfect, you can always place an object behind the windows and make maps for them, like showed here:

That's a great little tutorial.  It won't work here because the windows aren't modeled in, but good to know nonetheless.

that hasnt stopped me ;)

allow me to elaborate, model out a small room however you please, and render it out.
than condense the render down to your windows on your texture map. granted this dosnt work to well with BC ships because of tex resolution... but you get my drift here.

otherwise, best bet is to model them in physically or use the "noise" method like starship suggested.
I came, i saw, i added a Sig.
Later gents, i have Youtube to take over.

I do most of my work with GIMP, but I think the same principle would apply to PS or other prog's. Take a texture that chops up things in lights and darks, like a stone/flagstone, or something like small squares. Colorize them to a light blue or change the colors by range to fit some blues and greys. If you find the right spot on the pattern, rotate to fit your window orientations, then use the windows you have created to mask the patterned layer. An additional trick I use is I duplicate the layer, gaussian blur the mask layer just a bit, apply and remask to cut them clean, and darken the duplicate layer, to create a darker edge, without loosing any of the interior. It's another way to work it.

Two ways you can do the windows.

Method 1. lay out the windows as you have already down and lay your screen caps behind them. Merge all the caps to one layer and use the magic wond to select the windows layer. Invert selection and delete the screencaps layer. This should leave you with a perfect set of windows. Now apply a little inner shadow and a white / blue tint and bobs your uncle.

Method 2. take your screen caps and define a pattern with it and then in the windows layer properties apply the pattern to the layer and had the finishing touches mentioned above. This is quicker than method 1 but the results are hit and miss.

Hope this helps.

Still confounded by the windows so I just made a bunch of them white for the time being.

Here's how the top is shaping up.
