Shapeways 3d Printing & FarShot's Vendetta
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:15:48 PM »
Cross posted at http://www.star-ranger.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=9061

The Vendetta Class was an experiment I took on myself since I haven't really learned 3d modeling yet. I wanted to see if I could take a model from a game and edit it in order to print on Shapeways. I requested to use the Vendetta Class since it had no pylons that would make the model unprintable due to the restrictions with WSF. I contacted FarShot on the Bridge Commander Central forums to request permission and here are the results.
I'm pleased with the results. Now to learn how to paint!

whats the size of it?

i have all my models up on shapeways (including the ragnarok) and ive never had them tell me i cant print a model due to the pylon thickness, they are about 6"x6" scaled proportionally.

it all depends on what material you want to use as well.
I came, i saw, i added a Sig.
Later gents, i have Youtube to take over.

What's your store?

The length came out to 2.4"

I did experiment on pulling a Vesta Class to print and the pylons were very thin and pliable but it still printed.

the only one thats public is the ragnarok

http://www.shapeways.com/shops/cyan1d3shipyards

the rest are uploaded, just not public.

if anyone requests one of my ships, i just scale it in max and re upload it to the size requested for public, shadowknight wanted a print of
the ragnarok so i scaled it to what size he asked, and put it public.

i think im going to go back and just generalize the sizes for public sale.

I've usually tried to get the pricing to around $10 per ship.  It takes some finesse but a tiny scale change can change the price by a lot.
What ships have you done?  (Sorry, still new around here...)

And as soon as I get money, I'll be getting that Ragnarok, I promise!

If you look long enough on that site, you can find a lot of stuff, including some Trek ships.  Granted, they're renamed to avoid being taken down for copyright, but they're there.

And because of the type of material, the White Strong & Flexible takes paint really well, I had a friend paint up a few Master Sword styluses(styli?).  He's working on two of them and doing some (hopefully)final touch ups on a third, and then I have a couple of more complex projects for him, namely an Arwing from Starfox and a gunstar from The Last Starfighter.

I have seen an Arwing on Shapeways before.  I'll do some scrounging to see if I can locate it again.

Have recently uploaded the Valkyrie fighter to Shapeways.  Had the 1 and 1.5 cm versions print successfully.

I'd buy one of those if it were in 1:1400 scale like the AMT Galaxy class model.

I have a 1 cm and 1.5 cm version.  If you want to give me the length you want it I'll rescale it to 1:1400.

cool, actually, I just calculated the scale out, with a length of 20 meters, it would scale to 1.43 cm
