Space Engine v.0.96 ** Full Version**
« on: December 08, 2012, 01:26:38 AM »
Hi All! :)

While surfing the net, I came across this interesting space simulator called "Space Engine". :dance
I haven't had the chance to try this out yet, but here are the system requirement specs...

Quote
System Requirements

Minimum                Recommended
CPU   2 GHz             3 GHz
RAM   2 Gb               2 Gb
Video   512 Mb          1024 Mb
OpenGL   3.0            3.0
OS   Windows XP     Windows 7

What caught my attention, with this sim, you can explore entire solar systems and go planet side!
The video below is really stunning, to bad we can't explore planet surfaces like this in BC! :P From
what I read, ship models can be ported to this simulator. Here is the YouTube video and go download
the simulator.

**Also, check out their forums.

One person has exported a few of my models(TOS Enterprise, Ent-D, Ent-E, Doomsday Machine), JL Studios Delta Flyer and Voyager, Vladko's NX-01, and DJ's Enterprise-F for the space engine. I sent them a PM about 2 weeks ago, and no response.

Brilliant program nonetheless!
Great Minds... ;)

There is another simulator that's a higher quality, but I don't think you can port ship models in it. :(

I haven't had time to check the forums out there. Whoever ported those ships certainly know where to get the best ;)

Doubtful, I'd be more concerned if the proper crediting wasn't observed. People have different views on converting
freeware mods. It depends on the modding community. Generally, if the Author does not "specifically" say in the
readme (if they supplied one with the mod) they wish to be notified or ect. This can be expected.

Good news, I just got an email this evening, from the actual creator of SpaceEngine Vladimir Romanyuk.

I asked him if the simulator could be used with the bridge/cockpit sets. I also asked if the sim would have a RPG feel to it, or if the player had the freedom to explore the planetscape in FPV. Here is what he told me, his plans are to have an interactive simulation....

Quote
Yes, this is possible, it is in my plans, but not implemented yet. On the RGP- It is possible right now, this is the main feature in SpaceEngine - seamless landing on a planets and view 3D landscape. Best Regards, Vladimir.

I have a theory about this and some Defiant Class (deck meshes) and Intrepid Class decks! (all 15 decks)
that have come my way. I'll keep the forum posted.

For anyone who does know already, the 12 Colonies from NuBSG are in this, as well as Pandora from Avatar.

I'm assuming he based his BSG system off of this, I had no idea Gemenon and Caprica shared an orbit.

Also make sure to download the patch as well, it came out in July and some how I completely missed it, it stopped all my crashing

Apologize for the Bump, but I think its worth it

0.97 is now out!

The google drive download is overloaded, but if you just make a quick account on yandex and save it to your account, you can download at a decent speed.

I must have missed this somehow, and was intrigued...untill I saw yandex

yandex (and for that matter, half of russian hosts) are on the kick list of every spyware and virus remover program on the planet.  most of which block it outright.

Love how its only .1 from the last update, feels like it should be called 0.98.

It's a magnificent program - and despite this thread's title, a "Full Version" is a long way off, but even in its incomplete state, it's stunning.

I understand that the guy who was posting ships without permission (and whom I lobbied at the time to seek permission), has seen the light, and now properly credits models and seeks permission.

I made this in 0.9.7, now that 0.9.7.1 supports light maps on ship models, I really ought to redo it. I've made a few attempts at a video version, but it's a pretty large undertaking.
