The Next Upgrade
« on: December 28, 2012, 03:58:48 PM »
I think its time to update my case fan, heatsink and power supply. Im looking to reduced the gridlock going into the cpu as much as I can and upgrading the cpu and motherboard is out of the question. I already have the sides and top of the case open to help with cooling. Though dust and even dog hair are a major issue where I live so every three months I have to take the tower outside for a date with an air compressor.

Here is what im looking for:
Overall: quiet with good airflow, anything that helps with dust
Case Fan: 80mm(larger might be possible) 3-pin single ball bearing(2=too loud/no bearing=no failure warning)
Heatsink w/Fan: 80mm(larger might work) LGA775 compatible
Power Supply: 350w 20-pin (not sure on dimensions of current or what would fit)

Here is what im working with now minus the DVD drive, video card and memory sticks since I have replaced those already. http://support.gateway.com/s/emac/1014316R/1014316Rcl2.shtml

Thats all i've got for right now until I can dig into it to see what can fit in the tower.
All hail the messiah!

Honestly thats a Pentium 4, its not worth the money you'd spend upgrading it. At a bare minimum I'd try to find a used Core2 system but preferably a used Core i3/i5 or AMD PHenom II setup. The Pentium 4 is just to old to be of any real use or value these days. I sell them for 40 bucks on craigslist fully referbished.
