passionate of TOS
« on: July 16, 2013, 11:34:34 AM »
Hello to all! I am a newcomer in this fantastic world BC, so do not know much. I state that I am passionate about Star Trek TOS. I want to ask some of you recommend some mod to play BC with the same ship, same bridge and the same crew seen in the original series. I would in addition, some advice on some mod more focused on exploration than on the battle. BC is very cool! Thanks in advance!

best bet for TOSes is nearly anything from GMunoz and Phoenix's works.

there are two takes on a TOS bridge set.  I recommend this one
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/ToSrealisticcannon;118680
these have the live series bridge, the animated series bridge, and the bridge from one of the pilot shows as well.

there are a few TOS uniform mods out there, however, you're not really gonna get the actuall kirk/spock/McCoy/Sulu/checkov/Uhura/Scotty faces very easily

for bridges, I reccomed the works of Lurok, here, and our own Baz for all the bridges.
for characters, I'd see what Blackrook32 cooks up.

before installing any bridge - you must install this:
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Bridge_Plugin_Core;85205

after installing that mod, run the game once and then exit...
after exiting, install this:
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/TOS_Bridge_Pack;65541

then you can try out the mod KCS suggested - just make backups for your install beforehand...

as far Constitution Class ships - look through >>>THIS LIST<<<

as far as TOS uniforms - look through >>>THIS LIST<<<

also, go through the other categories at BCFiles and try the search function there as well...

thanks for the clarification, Jimmy.  I swear I had crash to desktop trouble with that TOS bridge pack, though (either way...worth it!)

Many thanks for your advice, guys! But I have a problem: whenever I try to download from "Gamefront", tells me that it can not find the page. How can I resolve this issue?

Thanks man! I tried to follow your suggestion, but I can not open the page. is very frustrating, press hundreds of times the "refresh" to 5 \ 10 minutes in a row. This happens with all the files. I want to know, is a problem of my connection, or is it a problem with the web site? There is another place where I can download?

Gamefront instituted this really lame policy last year...
Quote
New deletion rules for registered user files.
These rules will go into effect on July 19, 2012. After that date, files uploaded to a registered user account will need 1 download every 60 days to avoid deletion.

If a ?user file? is not downloaded at least once in a sixty day period, it will be automatically deleted due to inactivity.

If a user file receives at least 1 download every sixty days, it will stay on Game Front indefinitely.

This rule will affect new files you upload, as well as files you already store on the site. After July 19, 2012, if files uploaded to your user account have not been downloaded at least 1 time in a 60 day period, they will be deleted.

so there is a chance that the file you may be seeking might have been deleted and is gone forever...

which file (or files) was it you were trying to get, by the way?  can you post links here from bcfiles?
it might be possible someone has it and can share it...

it's not just the "low activity file deletion".  the owners of the site didn't synchronise the servers right, and it flip-flops between them all, thus requiring the refresh.

the file deletion HAS been working, though.  Vladko's early efforts have disappeared, and I lost at least two mods, myself.

mini-tip we ALL might wanna check out:  Ad Block seems to restrict the flip-flopping servers a bit.  I'm having to refresh less often.

if I had my old comp up and running, I'd gladly look through my TOS collection for you for anything that's potentially missing.

USS Enterprise (TOS)

TOS Constitution Pack

Anduril's TOS Constitution class USS Enterprise (1.1)

Regarding the uniforms are:

TOS Original Trek Uniform Mutator

These, for now, are the files I tried to download.
If any of you could help me, I would be very grateful.

hey, jimmy, didn't someone report IP bans for certain European countries by filefront?  the member's username and first post wording leads me to believe he's Italian, or at least speaks a romance language.

Zambie Zan's TOS Constitution pack is definetly worth grabbing.  I'd get his Klingon D-7's pack as well.  there's also plenty of TOS Romulans floating around you may wanna look into when this is settled.

actually, I liked the regular TOS bridge pack better then the "realistic canon" retexture.  In the realistic canon one, he arbitrarily added fake reflections to every surface, even the surfaces that aren't supposed to be reflective, I found that inaccurate, and annoyingly jarring when the "reflections" don't match my bridge crew.  The reflections are the only major change I noticed in it from the original pack anyway.

Yes, Kcs you're right! I am Italian, and to tell the truth, I now live in China.
Everyone knows that there are restrictions in China, as regards access to certain sites.
But I do not think this is the reason of my problems.
I downloaded patches and mods for other games, without problems.

Sorry Jimmy, I don't know how to post that picture!

There are plenty of cool TOS mods published as mentioned, developed or works in progress (w.i.p) :)

Here's my take on the TOS Era...

I preferred the darker and more intense coloring.  it resembled the cleaned up print versions of eps I'd seen before they did the full resto with the FX replacement, crappy reflections or no.  it also didn't give my virus and spyware scanners a headache like the EXE bridge pack did.  my scanners auto-deleted it, as a matter of fact!

Blackrook: here's hoping you get char packs out.  I went over the TOS lineup, and it looks like a few of the TOS ships were eaten by the 'so many downloads so often or deleted' policy.  fortunately my effort wasn't one of them

yes, that's a plug.
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/TOS_Reyes;118975

you might find some TOS ships are weirdly strong or tough.  a bunch of us worked on a tune-up of TOS specs for weapons to work better with the more modern, tougher models.

well i just tried to confirm this and got no such results of the sort...  using MSE and Malwarebytes...
likely your AV program flashed you a false-positive...  there is nothing wrong with that EXE whatsoever...

anyway, moving on...  :)
