Trekmovie recently did a "raffle" of 50 ST: Online beta keys and I was one of the 50 that was chosen. I added my name into the raffle on a whim- I didn't actually think I would get chosen. I plan on taking plenty of screencaps of the ships. This will also be my first time playing an online game.

I'm probably not going to buy the actual game because it is expensive. I do not usually play MMORGs but since this beta test was free (hopefully) I'll get to play it. I just want get a better look at what the ships look like.

BAH... I bought the game and got the Open Beta, with early start ..with all the goodies that came with it ..along with 30days free play..
I will be playing it as soon as I can possibly download it from Direct2drive :-)
From all the in-game live movies and such and the ship combat ..etc. I cant wait to play this ...you gotta get it dude.

If I can get a half-good PC by then, and my copy of STO is delivered, I should be playing on the 12th too!

My only complaint with the beta is the LONG download time for the game. Many people in the beta forums have been having problems with downloading using the download launcher from the ST: Online website. I had to wait 7 1/2 hours to download the game. :mad
The game itself runs great, even better than ST: Legacy if you change the graphics settings.

You don't know the concept of an NDA do you? Currently the game is in Closed Beta, and thus subject to the NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement). Anything you say or show to someone who is not also in the Closed Beta, could result in your dismissal from the beta testing, or possibly fines.
The Open Beta, doesn't start until Tuesday, January 12th. Until then, the NDA still applies to anyone currently testing the closed beta. The NDA ceases to apply, if Cryptic officially lifts the NDA during Open Beta.

I know perfectly well what an NDA is. It's the wording used when associating the keys. Wiley won a key to the Open Beta so one naturally assumes he is playing in Open Beta. So whats the point in giving out Open Beta keys if the actual period hasnt started yet? Thats where this little bit of confusion has set in. :)
And Wiley hasn't broken it yet. All he's told us is that its good.

My point is, if Wiley has indeed an Open Beta key right now, he is not currently able to access the STO server. Since STO is still in Closed Beta.

Fair enough. Which means, for those of us not in the closed beta, the NDA still applies, and you should not disclose anything you see in the game, to the rest of us. Wait until open beta begins :P

Direct2drive is letting me download the game already.. its pretty big..8.2gigs..
Dont think they will let me play it until tomorrow though..the open beta that is.

Yeah, I had to.. im a major Trek fan...have all the movies and all the TV shows, I been watching all the in-game videos of this game and it looks great and looks like its following Trek for the most part.

Wow Congrats Wiley as for myself I will be out there 2 on the open beta and invite u and everyone here to join the 9th Fleet in testing this baby out ya dont know whats lurking out there strength in numbers already we got 5 or 6 maybe of us almost ready to dive into the beata with more to follow

Sorry, but I may have to decline. College (university) has started and I will have absolutely NO time to play ST: Online or even mod BC for that matter. I still have to get my schedule in order to find time to do so. I'll look out for you whenever, if ever I am online.

Cryptic are also providing a Bittorrent download link, which I highly recommend you try. It might go a little slow at first, but the speed should definitely pickup. No queue, no wait.

Yay I got client but now I'm waiting for new keys (they are out of beta keys ATM but claimed they'll have new set any moment for IGN member)
