So, after some careful consideration, I have reluctantly - because of the work I put in, and because I'm a Trekkie - cancelled my subscription to Star Trek Online, though I may consider picking it up when it goes F2P. World of Warcraft, at the moment, has become somewhat stagnant, but I'm trying to alleviate that with some roleplaying and enjoying the holiday things.
Which brings me to the point of all this: I intend to play Star Wars: The Old Republic, which will be released just in time for Christmas. My parents will be pre-ordering it for me from the local Gamestop.
To say I'm giddy with anticipation is a gigantic understatement. I have been a fan of Star Wars almost as long as I have been of Star Trek, and I especially enjoyed the Knights of the Old Republic games. And I'm impressed with what I've seen so far of this game. I'm wondering if anyone else intends to pick this baby up, and if so - what side will you be on? Me, though I'll end up trying both, I will probably predominantly play Sith Empire - my first character will be a Sith Inquisitor. Why? Because I'm evil, and it appeals to me. *grin*
-
I've preordered Star Wars: The Old Republic, and will be rolling as a Sith Juggernaut (Warrior advanced class).
I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Played WoW for 5.5 years before feeling that all I was getting was "more of the same" from each new patch. Played STO off and on since launch, mostly because i'm a huge Star Trek fan. As of late, with constant delays, I decided to put STO on the shelf for the forseeable future. I might make a return to the game as a "Silver" player once it goes free-to-play. But in the mean time, i'll be buying Battlefield 3 later this month (enjoyed the beta so far), and then ofcourse SWTOR in late December.
-
I will be playing, and I just signed in for open beta.
-
I gonna try it for a while rolling as a Republic, at least to see what it's like.
I hope it can live up to the hype. I've seen many promising games fall on that they couldn't.

I admit I thought the same thing, especially considering that EA is the publisher (and they also owned Mythic, which made Warhammer Online - which is only hanging on by the thin thread of really rabid Warhammer fans, IMHO), but BioWare apparently has a good reputation - and there are enough people who played Knights of the Old Republic to make this potentially viable. This is their first MMO, though, so...we'll see.
-
Beta keys are out! get your before friday!
-
can't find it, got email from bioware telling me I've been selected for beta-testing but i can't find the key :idk:
-
It'll be mailed later.. or, you can be impatient and get one from their co-working gaming sites
-
ah so that's the trick :P I tried already on IGN.com but didn't find it
-
I beta'd last weekend. I'm hoping to try again (Curse sent out beta keys too) before the release...draggy computer be damned, I'm in love, heh.

What was your overall experience of the game? Many claim SWTOR is nothing more than an "WoW in Star Wars-skin" MMO. From what i've seen/read about SWTOR, I don't see it as such. I'm wondering how others think, who have actually played the game.
-
Honestly, I can't say much due to the NDA - but I can say this. When WoW has fully-scripted, fully-voiced dialogue with quest-givers, then they can compare TOR to WoW.

:dance

*is downloading the betatest client* :yay:
-
Wanna play it but again paying every month pffff....
Gonna play st online when its free again.
-
Oh boy ... they finally sent me invitation for 26 th November :D so I'm testing it this saturday :D YAY !!!
... but then again I doubt I'm gonna be paying for it every month so I'll pass :P
-
Well, the NDA is up, so those who have played it can now share their thoughts. Eventually got invited to a test this weekend and it starts tomorrow, can't wait to see if it lives up to the hype ^^
-
Aw crap, 20 gigs then an hour of waiting after clicking play and all I get is black screen :( I guess that all ... no testing :(
fuc* ....
-
correction ... besides that I can't edit my own reply :P ... SWTOR is fianally working for me and ,,, I have to admit it's quite funny to play, good thing they kept some bits of KOTOR I and II score in it, GFX is decent for a MMO, SFX is as good as ussual for SW games ... but it's still not what I was waiting for, voice acting is average, plot is cheap (in KOTOR 1 jedis were weakened, KOTOR2 jedis almost extinct, TOR jedis mostly destoyed, only few escaped to remote world ... feels like it was already used in another SW game and original trilogy)
Still, so far it's a solid game, right now I'm considering getting 3 months gameplay
-
As am I. :dance :yay: I'm hooked.
-
definitely gonna get it ! it's a great game, jedi is cool but smuggler is pure fun to play :D oh boy ... can't wait till 20th december :D I wonder what's the monthly fee
-
Jedi is easier to play than smuggler as Jedi can actually defend him/herself unlike smuggler who calmly takes the laserblasts into his face..
-
truth but there is kind of cover system, and while in cover you can fire powered volleys ;)
What really made me angry was that I actually got stuck between a building and cliff wall without being able to move in any direction, reloading the game simply put me in the very same spot :O quuick trvel mode didn't work because I was still in move so I guess that's one of those no-way-out places :P
-
I wonder what's the monthly fee
Most MMOs have been around the $15-a-month range, though some have deals for lump sums for monthly periods (some do 2, 3 and 6, some do 3, 6 and 12, so on).

Monthly fee is in the FAQ
http://www.swtor.com/info/faq#203369
I'd tell you but the site is down at the moment.
I Played the Beta for 2 weekends, I have to say Smuggler and Sith Warrior were my favourites, I got both to level 16.
-
Got my Sith Warrior (Juggernaut) upto level 20 during beta weekend. Was extremely fun and enjoyable. Loved every second of dialog in the conversations.
As for monthly cost, without knowing exact prices from Bioware, i'm expecting a monthly fee of largely the same as "industry standard", which is 15$ USD per month.

This game is the new milestone.. Although some WoW-nolifes whine that it's nothing else than WoW clone with star wars slapped on it, I beg to differ. It's WELL DONE clone with KOTOR on it as well as lots of dialog, high quality graphics and lots of references to the later SW universe and other SW games. Both storylines that I tried (Jedi Sentinel and Smuggler Gunslinger) were very immersive, and despite of beta status, I didn't find that many glitches.. In fact, it was the smoothest working Beta ever, despite of large crowds on some instances. I do, however, need another graphics card to run paraller with the current one, as well as more RAM. :(

I'm with you on that - hell, I need a whole new computer. Mine's an obsolete piece of junk now.

tried those two as well, got a bit lost when playin' smuggler (maybe due to the fact I was drinking some A% and my thinking got impared :P ) then switched to jedi. I think I'm gonna get at least 3 months gameplay for beginnig after 20th december, then I'll have to lose my girl and probably drop from school and work :D
nah seriously, it keeps good old KOTOR climate very well, graphics are awesome, tested it on my goosd old acer 5740, will play it on my desktop for sure, got to admit it worked really smooth after upgrading ati drivers, no crash to desktop, only few detachted polys here and there (most likely due to shaders failure), story wise I'm impressed even tho I got no further than a bite of ord mantell with smuggler and coruscant with jedi, I really enjoyed the game.
so ... if ya lads dunno how to spend 15 $ spend it on TOR ;)
-
Purchasing the actual game is bit more than 15$ though.. I'm still on the edge whether to preorder or not.
-
yeah I guess it will be somewhere around 50 $ maybe even more after premiere but WTH, I'm gettin' it anyway :D
-
I bought a new computer specifically for this game, so yeah. Two weeks of my life are going to go straight down the drain starting 12/20.
-
And here's the hoping that the actual game will work just as smoothly as the beta did.. ;)
-
according to one of the devs if you were in last 'weekend' playtest you don't need to uninstall the game for the full release you can just update from the beta when it is time.
To clarify, this is only you are updated to the latest beta build as of the last weekend test they did.
-
:yay: awesome, then I just need to pay for it and update :D
-
first wave of early access codes have been sent, more tomorrow.
-
Highly recommended reading (for those interested in playing, and not yet invited to Early Access):
http://www.swtor.com/community/showpost.php?p=66561&postcount=6438
Of particular note is the following;
"We invited more people to play Star Wars: The Old Republic today than many other MMO launches manage in their entire head-start process."
and
"We're actually planning to invite more tomorrow than today, and invite the same number again on Thursday"
-
Doing it right.
-
i won't be playing it. mainly because of financial issues, but partly because i think, that i'll buy it only to find its some glorified version of WoW

While the basic gameplay mechanics are similar to WoW, I can vouch for that it overall plays completely different. For one thing, the usage of full voice acting, in lieu of "Quest Text" is a HUGE improvement in my book. Other mechanics in the game that sets it apart from WoW, are among others: AoE looting (loot from multiple corpses simultaneously), No level-bands for PVP/Warzones (lowlevel players are 'bolstered' to be close to strength as the highest player in zone), Companions being fully fledged "sidekicks" with their own AI and skillset, their own "opinions" on things, can be romanced (opposite-sex only, same-sex after launch), and in a pinch can assist in a needed role (lack of tank, use tank companion etc).
I will not begrudge anyone for not playing SWTOR, but I highly recommend that people atleast give it a shot at some point. I too heard all the stories of it being a carbon-copy of WoW (in space), and I was totally blown away when I finally got access to playing in the beta (still waiting on my Early Access invitation).
-
Pre-orderd. Now just have to wait for invitation :D :D
-
I think I shall purchase it bit later.. GT5 update (2.02) and DLC (new cars) take the priority one position.
-
I've just been invited :D the wait is over lads ! teh Bonez iz downloadin' teh client in order to pay teh old rep. see ya in next year
-
good luck, and may the Force be with you.

good luck, and may the Force be with you.
All ways, until you get older, settle down have kids and by that point im gooone. :funny
-
Buying it today. I can't procrastinate any longer :hithead: :banghead:
-
Yup, just as good.. no, actually better than in the beta.
-
I was mad at it few days ago because I kept loosing against everyone at some point of the game and then suddenly realised I have one crew mate that remaines completely unused ... and it turned out to be one tough SOB ! never underestimate the power of medic :D
so far the game is plainly cool, tends to get boring on veeery long runs but when you get yourself a speeder, it's great :D
-
My Smuggler got his ship back. :D :dance
-
funny I have a smuggler player at level 6 ( straight after loosing ship) but am playing as jedi guardian right now, gonna take some brake from jedi soon and switch to smuggler for a while ;)
-
The Vault.. That boss is so annoying.. I guess I have to do some tactical stuff and kill his minions first, then soften him up and hope that me and my companion will survive longer than that.. :bitch:
-
having problems either, I'm kinda stuck in unknown regions on czerka asteroid ... fighting hopelessly with a badass sith warrior Viles or whatever his name is ... the problem is that this guy uses too much of force, I can't even strike him fast enough and BOOM ! I'm flying high air :D
-
time for powerleveling >.<
-
yep, got 1lvl higher than he is and now I can beat him down to about 30 % of his power, so I guess I'll have to outlevel him even more ... I think it's time to visit Tatooine :D
-
That's where my Smuggler is. Just got my ass handed to me by that Czerka final boss.. I think I'll either lvl up once more or try the storyline boss..
-
got 2 levels above the boss and still he whoops my ass like it's a child's play ... I guess I'll have to reconsider my tactics :P
-
smothered the Czerka boss, now, one level up and then I'll spang that sith ladys ass.
-
:bitch: Why you little...! that's it, I'm already on same level as she is and she STILL kicks my ass.. fine, have it your way, you little sith c**t, let's go for overkill.. :banghead:
-
I've got three guys toolin' around with ships at the moment - my Sith Inquisitor/Sorcerer at 16, my Jedi Consular/Shadow at the same, and my Smuggler/Gunslinger at 20. My Smuggler's on Nar Shaddaa, my JC has just hit Taris (that planet's damned depressing, and I don't just mean the ruins), and my SI is on Balmorra. I also have a Sith Warrior/Juggernaught and Imperial Agent/Sniper, each at 11, and a Bounty Hunter at 6. So I need to make a Jedi Knight and a Trooper too, just to round out the set. *grins* I iz a altaholic. *nod*
Of the starting companion characters I've seen so far (as I said, I've seen six of 'em)...I've taken a big liking to Vette, the Twi'lek slave girl who runs around with the Sith Warrior. My SW's a Sith Pureblood, so it's nice to see a big red guy and a little blue gal runnin' around. Maybe make purple Sith kids with head-tails. *grins* But she's a lot of fun. She gets captured by Sith Lords and tortured with a shock collar, and yet she still whips out the snappy comebacks. I decided to be nice to her and take her shock collar off, heh.

Ever wondered how big the legendary Krayt Dragons are?

Holy cow. That thing is HUGE! Are there any of those living?
-
Probably not, but there should be a Sarlacc somewhere in the Tatooine map. Probably world boss or such.. if I recall right, poisoning it is one of the epic 2+ challenges or something like that
