Title: URGENT: I'm having a really odd issue with my pc (win 7 professional)
Post by: flarespire on March 02, 2013, 08:26:00 AM
OK, so my problem is, when I insert a disc into my DVD R+ Drive, my PC will start reading the disc, and will then proceed to blue-screen on me with a KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR/another KERNEL error
anyone on here got an idea of whats happening? I've tried multiple disks, and the only way i can see of fixing this, as it seems like an OS error is to run start-up repair from my install DVD, which will in return result in the same blue-screen happening.

If anyone here can help me out it'll be greatly appreciated.

I think you have a bad driver. I'd find the latest one for your DVD drive. I know windows has its own but this seems to have gone to shit. XD

Well iv attempted to do so, but apparently Sony have completely removed the driver and all support from the device from they're website (it is an IDE drive but thats the only MOBO slot i had free) and windows is about as helpful as a deaf bat when it comes to finding the correct driver.

the drive I have is a SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A

ive also done a check and my IDE ATA/ATAPI drives are out of date aswell... but windows thinks otherwise... anyone know where i can get an update for em?

there's a driver rescue possibility out there:  drivermax.  they might still have the drivers for the unit, there.

barring that, replacing the DVD drive might help too.  At the very least it'd prevent this from happening again if it is a drive issue.

Ok I've been doing some tests and it turns out that the drive has given up, I think its IDE port has become ropey causing a windows bluescreen... YAY!

So now Im gonna have to find a drive that will run on SATA around my house (I have no money) this is gonna take a while :L

i havent, but by looking at my mobo, i think the actual IDE bus has up and died... so im looking around for a decent but reasonably prics SATA dvd rw drive
