...though a V and a VI will be up to us.
In other news, Johnston confirmed that "Jurassic Park IV" is a go and that they are crafting it as the start of a new trilogy (Johnston directed 2001?s "Jurassic Park III"):
You said that there was no way to get people back on the island for a fourth time and have it make sense, but that 2001 was the last installment and we?re due.
Johnston: Well, there is going to be a Jurassic Park IV. And it?s going to be unlike anything you?ve seen. It breaks away from the first three?it?s essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy. It?s going to be done in a completely different way. That?s pretty much all I can tell you.
A second trilogy?
Johnston: If you think of the first three as a trilogy, number four would be the beginning of a second trilogy.
That?s big. So not to lock you in, but there?s a possibility there might be a total of six films?
Johnston: Well, you never know. If they keep working?and if audiences keep going to them?there?s no reason why there wouldn?t be. We just want to make them justified in their own right. We don?t want to make sequel after sequel just because there?s a market for it. We want to tell different, interesting stories. You don?t want to just sell hamburger.

I for one am already looking forward to this. I can't wait to see what he does with this.

oh brother... yet another overkill...
what is it with lack of fresh ideas in Hollywood, and instead just re-using things already done??
-
i think it's because of the increase in technolgy availability. there's a lot of stuff out there that it is felt to be in need of a Redoo. Universal's redid the original Wolfman, which is about to come out, so Frankenstine and his monster are next.
as for original material, there's rarely anything new outside of horrendous comedies. even romantic comedies have dried up. give it another decade, and there'll be a new take on "ferris Beuler's Day Off" or "Weird Science" as gen y starts getting nostalgic, and gen X starts hitting the "mid-life crisis" stage. (in 3 years, mind).
-
I really hate all these reboots. I want something original.
Why is that too much to ask?

there is already a new Ferris Bueller movie in the works i hear...
it is called Hollywood laziness... and appealing to people that were younger, now older a decade removed... why actually pay people to think of ideas when you can recycle crap to feed to the sheep?
and yet these things make top-office dollars... go figure... Hollywood laziness or people being dumbed down to buy anything force-fed to them?
i dunno... thats a whole different convo for a different thread tho i suppose...

surprising how this is brought up lol

not a decade, but two plus. the ideas may have wnt away after the last writers strike, and everyone said "bleep it". another reason I can think of the recycling is because some of the ideas are a minimum of forty years old. a lot of the revivals I've seen are of concepts come up with in the Baby-boomer era, and those ideas todays generations never HEARD of! these movies aren't for those of us who have seen the original, they're for todays generations. this is one of the reasons that trek 11 was made. to introduce trek to guys who won't watch the first four series cause they're "too old".
anymore, I'm of the opinion that, if you have a monster hit, and anything past a first sequal isn't as hot, drop the idea. viewers are considered "goldfish", with a memory of about 3 minutes :P
-
and gold fish have memory longer than 3 min so proven by the Myth Busters... but that is for another topic lol :P

How did anyone get reboot out of this? JP4 wont be going the same way as Spidey4. As the article says these will take place off the islands AFTER JP3. Seperate from the first three yet still a continuation.
-
its not a reboot, just kicking a dead horse and lack of original real new creativity (IMO)... but ah well, whatever sells right? :P
-
And that's why Star Trek XI exists as well, and XII is on it's way.. Not that I mind. Now, if only Lucas would do a proper reboot/refurbishment of the original trilogy..
-
To be honest I'd like to see a new JP film and although I enjoyed 3 it was a bit of a let down.

They did that back in the 90s, iirc. There is no need to touch the original anymore. Frankly, the less Lucas does Star Wars, the better.
-
Hopefully they will pick off not far after three. We know that they escaped from the massive "birdcage" and flew away. Them finding their new home would be the predictable direction to go in though(I feel) no matter what they can't do another without throwing in some aquatics. We know that they were around Site B because the two dudes got eaten in the beginning of three by atleast one of something that came from the water.

Lucas is rumoured (might be confirmed now, not sure) to be getting the Original Trilogy 3-D-ized....

I disagree with you in terms of Star Trek, but I definitely agree as far as Jurassic Park goes. This is the worst decision I've heard of in quite some time. Jurassic Park II was mediocre and not even close to the book, and III sucked, and so will IV. Jurassic Park should either die, or be rebooted completely. And as far as I'm concerned, this is an insult to the late Michael Crichton.
-
I liked all the jp's...though I hafta say 1 was the best. I'll be looking fwd to 4, even if it's not great, I'm a dinosaur fan so I gotta go see it. Rarely the movies I pick suck as bad as everyone says. The new trek really didn't suck either, just the ship.
-
Jurassic Park will be awesome but I miss Sam Neil.
TRON Legacy all the way.

Even he couldn't keep JP3 from being a crap fest...which would've been much improved if they hadn't brought in Spinosaurus as the "newest, biggest, baddest dino/villain ever" and if the movie had been a good half hour longer.
-
JP3 was indeed short. Literally, when I saw it in the theater, I said aloud "That's it?"
-
hehehe :funny

Bumping with relevant news. (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/11/jurassic-park-iv-will-open-june-2014)
For the lazy, Jurassic Park IV has a release date of June 13, 2014.

3 wishes:
1. Spielberg back in the Director's Chair (no decision yet)
2. Return of Alan Grant -and- Ian Malcolm
3. New team investigating the island
-
3 wishes:
1. Any director other than the guy that did JP3.
2. Don't do a stupid idea like more human-like dinosaurs or dinosaurs with guns.
3. If you cant make it good, then for god's sakes, don't make it at all.
-
I honestly wouldn't mind seeing that 2004 script hit the big screen. If not as a JP movie then a new franchise. Sure it may be in the "stupid" category but the crazy bizzar wtf-ness would make it a great bad movie that you can't help but watch more than once.
Either way they have to follow up on where the flyers from the third movie show up next.
-
No they don't. They didn't even follow up on the fliers at the end of the SECOND movie.
