Well guys, I wanted to finish up my work on the Warhammer, but I had a few ideas for the Ares, and got kind of sidetracked. So, I'm going to mess around with this mesh for a bit, perhaps finish it up and get textures made for it.
Ok, so first some background on the ship. This is a battleship, third largest SMC vessel in the 3rd Fleet. Naturally, it's design it's almost entirely based on a mission of combat, and it's systems are geared toward that effect. I don't have the info in this ship finished yet, but I can give some general information based on two plotlines that the ship appears in, "Bodyguard of Lies" and "Cajamarca" (Note that Cajamarca is not complete, only 4 acts are finished, so this information could change.).
The vessel is a bit larger than a Sovereign class, and could be considered a Sov on steroids. Where the Sov has grace and speed, this ship has brute force and armor. Naturally, she is not as fast or as maneuverable as other ships in her class size.
This vessel would be an easy match for almost all capital vessels, about an equal match for a Scimitar. This is not intended as a solo vessel, though it can operate on it's own...it is usually the flagship for a strike fleet.
She has some fighters, one dropship and a small contingent of troops, a mixture of weapons...standard phaser strips, phaser batteries, torp launchers fore and aft, both quantum and photon, and 4 powerful phased disruptor cannons. She also has a small compliment of long range drones. She has a cloak, but she can not fire while cloaked.
The special feature for this ship is that it is actually two independent vessels, as shown in the pics. Both are capable ships, both carry warp engines and a full compliment of shields and weapons, but the ship normally operates in docked mode.
Ok, on to the mesh.
I designed the warp engines to have a more "sturdy" kind of setup, with smaller armored buzzards, warp plasma vents with armor covers (outboard vents are usually covered, inboard vents kept open) and a large shield generator/cloak structure on the top spine of each nacelle. The hull has some Sov like details, but has quite a few shuttle and fighter bays all over the ship. I have tried to avoid a streamlined shape, giving it sharp corners here and there and a tapered hull to give the appearance like this ship is heavily armored.
It's not meant to be eye candy...she is an ugly beast, meant to bring the war to any doorstep.
Well, here are the pics of the progress so far.

Now that ship I like. Good solid design and I'm afraid it looks a bit more streamlined than you might think. Whats its length as the ship doesn't look that big?? (I suppose it'll show when its textured)

Great job Raven! Really nice design.
I would suggest maybe sloping the nacelle struts down a bit?

^^ I'd have said up. :p
Very cool design. Reminds me of ST:O's Avenger Class.

Thanks guys. Ill give a few facing shots to get an idea of where the nacelles are. I positioned them to have them low like the galaxy, as a light nod to that ship. Im working on the deflector area at the moment, and the RCS pads have to be redone since I added the phaser strips. Also, I forgot to mention that the deflector hull is a separate piece, so different types of deflectors can be installed for different mission goals.
I'm probably going to create at least two more types of deflectors and nacelles that can be swapped out for different ship versions.

If I may say so, this ship looks BADASS!
Great work!

All looks good, just not sure about the pylons dropping down. Looks a little awkward. How about connecting them to the belly, something like this?

Rough edit of possible improvement to both pylon and pylon phaser placement:

Very interesting ship. I like it.

Yes very interesting indeed cant wait to see how it turns out

Ugly? Perhaps. But beauty is subjective. I would use the term beefy. She looks like she can take a lot of hits and keep going.

I concur. Not ugly. Beefy, buffed up. She looks like she can take quite a poundin and still keep fighting.
