Can you guess what it is (http://bit.ly/1lFLHge)?
-
Holy S. You're back :D
Uh.. as for on topic. Is it a revamp of your Victory Class?
-
Indeed it is! Summer break started this Saturday and I got the modeling bug despite having not made anything for a couple of years. Only problem was that I didn't really have any great ideas, so I looked at my old stuff and decided to remake the USS Victory. It's much closer to TNG time now than TLE. Call it a refit if you want. I figured there was no reason not to post it.
The profile of the ship is mostly the same, with the biggest differences in body being the sweep of the pylons and the shape of the secondary hull. Over all though, just more and refined details.

Hey, you are back!
The ship looks indeed way more like a TNG vessel, now. I wouldn't have guessed that it is the victory.
It looks great, especially the engineering -neck region (!*), but I liked the old victory nacelles better.
(*I'm a Galaxy fanboy, I can't help it...)

On the topic of the original, I was always fond of the name Vimy Ridge myself. Was the registry 40917 a reference to the date of the battle? 4= April, 917 = 1917?
-
YAY!! Welcome back! :D
Love the model, very smooth.
-
HOLY ****! YOUR BACK!
This is either some sort of prank, or this is a miracle.
In any case, this ship looks awesome!
Are you planning on staying, or is this like a one time thing? Or are you just not sure yet?
-
Kori--> Yes, the original registry was the date of the battle. The Battle of Vimy Ridge is a moment of national significance for Canadians.
newhalo123--> Haha. No prank, it's me. I guess you could say I'm back. I've got a couple months off of work and building a few ships, maybe completing some old projects is on my radar.
-
what about some of the models u didn't finish
And great to have u back
-
HOLY CRAP BATMAN !!! DJ's back !!!
It's really good to see you back in business :D
-
Considering the Great War centennial coming up, it's very appropriate. too bad my comp derped...this'd give me a good reason to work on the USS Anzac. mabey everybody ought to get together for some great war tribute ships.
thing is, I'm now seeing a bright red fighter craft named Richthofen (sp)
-
It's still here! It's wasn't a dream! I went to bed not long after and haven't been sure all day whether I dreamed this thread or not. xD
-
Firstly the nice bit - Welcome back DJ
now the Nasty bit, Shit ur back, there goes me down 1 step of the ladder :D
-
Keep your step, Nix. I've got a project on the go at the minute, so you're safe. :p
-
Don't worry about it, guys, I'll foul it up with some misaligned texture mapping. :P
-
Don't worry about it, guys, I'll foul it up with some misaligned texture mapping. :P
Well, it's been a while. I think that a little misaligned texture mapping is quite alright.
-
The Master has returned!
Minor nitpick about the ship-- the side view looks awkward, but the rest looks great.
-
you must be seeing something I can't, Wiley...but it's been a while since I eyeballed a model for errors. what's the previous version look like?
-
you still have the knack dude! awesome ship!
-
you must be seeing something I can't, Wiley...
If it's the same thing that stuck out to me, then it's the way that the pylons and are suddenly bolt upright against the flow of the rest of the ship. They're a little abrupt.
Not entirely sold on the nacelles.
-
Vortex, you are correct about the pylons. It's another design I'll have to see in flight until I truely like it.
-
Welcome back DJ, it's great to have you back brother!
Ship looking excellent! But I have to say that the original is near and dear to my heart.
-
Kori--> Yes, the original registry was the date of the battle. The Battle of Vimy Ridge is a moment of national significance for Canadians.
Ah yeah, thats why I recognized the date without looking it up haha.
-
By the way, thanks all for the welcome back.
A bit of aztec done.
As to the sweep of the pylons, I like it, but I'm open to suggestions on tweaks to the nacelles. I originally had them swept forward which looked pretty cool, but it was a little too post TNG. Have a look at the second picture. From that angle I think it's more apparent why I chose the angle they're at now.

Looking at the first image, it seems to me that the pylons are either too narrow, or the nacelles are. Looks to be a whole lot of empty space back there. Perhaps even due to the very narrow body of the stardrive.
Some ideas, but would require a fair amount of rebuilding. Feel free to disregard :)
Widened pylons, stardrive, and increased width of nacelles by about 15-20%:

Welcome back DJ!!

She's certainly got the curves of the era. Welcome back!
-
Welcome back DJ! Its awesome to see you at work again!
-
Welcome back DJ! We really missed you and your craft around here!
Ugh, now I really need to get around to a new copy of BC.
-
welcome back DJ you been missed and awesome ship you got going there, but what else can we expect your work is always superb.
-
Welcome back man!

WHOA!!!
So I wasn't hallucinating when I saw your name in the online list a couple days ago.
Looking great DJ.
Nice to see you back.
-
Yo, Jimmy, Language dude. lol
Don't make Jimmyz Mad....he will sick the Sams on you!
-
A master returns! Welcome back!
Nice work
-
That is a great looking ship DJ.
Amazing the site is back!
DJ, you are a genius and so are many others here on the site working on all these great mods.
-
Sorry about starting this and then leaving it. Got the modeling bug so I've picked it up again. I've textured the deflector dish, nacelles glowing bits, and phaser arrays.

You have no idea how good it is to see you around. A most heartfelt welcome back.
-
Thanks very much, Farshot. It's a shame things have slowed down so much. For my part, I'll see if I can't pick up some steam.
I've done a bit more, actually more than it looks, because the nacelles have been completely mapped out now. Always tricky to line those maps up properly.

As far as communities go, BCC has been consistently great. Fleets/clans and mod teams come and go, but this casual Star Trek art-and-modding-centered site still trudges on. It'd be wonderful if everyone who is still around can get a bit retasked on something that mutually interests us all - I know I've been my most productive when I've seen mutliple WIP threads consistently being updated and being the fifth wheel on that party bus.
-
How beautiful!
-
Progress...

Nice hope to see it finished
-
Very nice, is there a little story behind her??? Love some details.
Adam
-
No real story so far, but we'll see. Working away...

I really like the shape of the deflector area. The only thing which detracts from the overall look of your ship, in my opinion, is how the straight pylons just stick out from the engineering hull- especially when other areas of the ship are quite curvy like the Galaxy Class.
Give me time, I'll have to see it in motion.
-
Looks good DJ! I really need to get BC back in my hands...
-
Very interesting. The deflector is a cross btwn Galaxy and Sovereign. I like it.
-
Welcome back! I like it, very nice! Maybe angle the pylons back ever so slightly. Can't wait to see her finished.
-
I like the overall flow of the ship, it has a very galaxy/Sov/Excel/DJ style to it. Even reminds me of my Evenstar class a little.
I'm not really sold on those bussards. They're a little too blocky. Loving the colours, though.
-
Vortex is right, the bussards could use a bit more sleekness to them.
-
The registry corresponds to the same time as the Galaxy, probably 2350s-2360s. Many ships of this time still had more industrial looking nacelles. I think they are shaped fine.
-
Texture work continues. I've also changed the shape of the bussards to make them sleeker. Really, I'm not partial to either design, so it's no matter to me.
Slow going. Forgot how much I prefer building models to texturing them. lol Far from done.

:-)
I will definitely test this out when you finish.

Slow going. Forgot how much I prefer building models to texturing them.
I'm with you on that buddy.
-
I'm with you on that buddy.
And that would be the main reason why I can't see new ships coming from you ? :P j/k ;)
I, on the other hand, prefer texturing to modeling.
I can easly see this ship as a replacement to Ambassador class, really neat design and texturing. Great job so far DJ :)
-
The secondary hull just reminded me of Klingon Academy's Lexington Class.
It's like a TNG Lexington Class
:-)
-
I'm with you on that buddy.
Seconded...
-
And that would be the main reason why I can't see new ships coming from you ? :P j/k ;)
I spent a good hour last night rearranging my various projects folders in preparation for something...
-
I'm with you on that buddy.
thirded!
really great work the DJ... any tips on how to split the ships for textureing, uv mapping?
i mean looking at yours its all so crisp and clean while i find i have (not on the NX266 or NovaConcept though lol) streached sections. my Griffin Class has that issue. pointers would be great.
great work again sir.
-
Go to the tutorials section under modding. Watch the tutorials I recorded a few years ago. You might find them helpful. I find it's all about picking the right initial UVW angle and then just fine tuning.
-
She's looking good.
-
Little by little.

Really loving it. The attention to mapping the phaser strips well is paying off.
-
She's a real beauty DJ :)
-
lovely
-
Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I have some progress.
-thrusters
-some pennants and markers
-hull textures and windows for the interhull
-transporter emitters
-hull texture for the bottom of the saucer around the interhull
-slight hull panel color change

I am in love with this ship! Shes a beaut!
-
I may slightly hate you for one thing though - those torpedo launchers' placements. I've sketched so many ships over the years with torpedo launchers in that area, but I've never finished any of them. Beat me to the punch, you have. :P
-
I am attempting to revive KM with a team of modders. So far we have a scripter who can do part time work, a dedicated hardpointer/modeler, and me. I can edit and test scripts and also do graphics. The goal right now for KM 2015 is to rebalance all the ship stats and canon hardpoints, and get Silent Running into multiplayer (yes, multiplayer works now that we've fixed the master server ;) )
-
tethys I know you are doing well on getting KM back up and running but I think you should stick to a singular thread about it. k ;)
-
Textures are nearly complete. Just a few small areas yet to do.

It's a beauty!
:)
-
She. Is. Gorgeous!
Great job DJ!
-
awesome!! :D
-
Awesome! Very Nice!
-
Just a heads up guys. i will be converting this ship, but due to a flood we had in our basement several months, ago, my BC disc is in a sea can in a box somewhere in my driveway. Until then, I won't be able to do the HP etc. But I promise I will!
-
You could just hand it off to someone else. I don't mind though. I'll just use it for renderings and such.
-
Oh please release this baby. I'll take her without the HP. Just to have it is an honor.
-
Yeah, if you release it without the hardpoint, there certainly is someone out there willing to make one for it (hint hint KM 2015) ;)
Nebula, I created a thread on KM 2015, to appease you :P
-
DJ where you able to finish this one? Have all your ships that where done for BC!! :Metal: :Metal:
-
Might not be a bad way to re-learn how to HP. lol
-
GO FOR IT :yay: :yay: :yay:
