Title: Registration Problems
Post by: Tethys on February 16, 2015, 09:31:06 AM
I was contacted by an [SF] Lewis that he tried to make a new account here, but was unable to. Any idea what's going on with new registrations? Is it turned off? Can we turn it back on temporarily? Trying to get everyone "central"ized for the BC restoration, since this seems like it would be the main forum at this point in BC history.

Did he say what the problem was?
The registration site itself seems to be fine from the outside
(haven't really tested it though, just looked at source-code as my Browser displays it)

He said the Register button was greyed out, or something.. I'll have to ask him again

Using Google Chrome, in Incognito Mode (no cookies, cleared cache etc), registration looks fine to me. Mind you, I did not re-register (for obvious reasons).

Well, that is unfortunate. Any of the moderators here can take a look at that maybe? I know, the forum isnt exactly active.. but its pretty much all the community has left at this point. I think we should make it as readily available as possible, imo.

I'm not an expert in this stuff but isn't that BCC doesn't have a domain affect registration ?

I thought it did have a host, ipage or whatever.. or robbieshobbiesnet Im not sure, but as far as I know we wouldnt be able to even access this area of the internet if it wasnt being hosted. I would have to ask my friend who does forums...

That makes sense, then it must be a technical issue...

He said eiher its been turned off or the file has been removed, whatever that means. I believe the server admin needs to take a look at it, not sure if a moderator could enable it or not.

Some piece of registration logic is putting the disabled html attributed onto the button (thus disabling the HTML element in your browsers), possibly a piece of client side code which is not working anymore. I'm supposed to be the webmaster here and I could easily correct the problem however I cannot access the sites source code due to not having any FTP privileges.

For the time being PM me the details of the user (desired username, email etc) you'd like to register and I can do it from the admin portion of the forum, I have access to that at least.

P.S The culprit code is related to the agree checkbox, piece of js functionality which is supposed to re-enable the button needs urgent fixing.

Your friend is wrong, if the registration is turned off then the registration page should say something along those lines ex: "Registration has been disabled". Now if the actual PHP file has been removed then the manifestation would have been completely different, all of you would possibly get a white screen or some type of an error screen.

Apologies for the registration issues. I have corrected the problem and registration is now enabled. As a test I registered a test user.

Many thanks
