Hi there
Anyone remember the evil Starfleet uniforms from the Voyager episode "Living Whitness"?
I thought it would be cool to have them as a mutator mod in Bridge Commander.
I?ve already done some work on them but since I?m quite a nOOb in game modding I came across several problems and I?m hoping that someone here can help me solve them.
I was able to modify the body textures the collars and the hands (leather gloves) in PS but there the problems start.
I noticed that the index finger on the male body model has textures from the forehead applied to it. So when I apply black glove textures to the hands the index finger stays pink.
The problem is that I have only basic photoshop skills and no experience in 3D modeling.
and I suspect that I need to realign the textures on the hand models with a 3D Editor.
Next problem is that I don?t know how to make this mod a mutator.
Are there any tutorials on how to make a working mutator script?
Any help would be appreciated.
I?m also thinking of ways how to make the faces of the Dauntless crew look more evil.
I?ve already worked on Miguel and Felix but I don?t know what to do with Kiska or Saffi (who has been replaced with a trill head actually) but she doesn?t look very scary...

I wasnt very fond of those uniforms. They were practically the voyager uniforms without com badges, with gloves and dark under clothing. Nice job so far.
Are you willing to do perfect voyager uniforms aswell? (as in, without a blurry oversized comm badge. without gloves and the grey underclothes)
As for a mutator tutorial, Tiqhud sent this to me a long time ago. I never got around to using it so I think it might help you more then me. (I tried to use it to make X303 and X304 uniforms but it didnt go well :lol:)

Concerning the canon Voyager uniforms: I have also done some work on them (minor corrections mostly) But they`re based on another Mod which I downloaded from BCFiles some time ago - I don?t know if it?s ok the repost them there.

All the Voyager uniforms Ive seen have been done pretty badly IMHO (blurry oversized comm badges, zipper upto collar looking weird, no mutator control). Im just looking for Voyager uniforms with crisp deatiled textures on the areas mentioned above. If you upload a few screenshots of the Voyager uniforms you tweaked (in a seperate thread) you may get the original makers attention and he/she/it may say if you can upload them or not.

I think they?re quite acceptable - the collars of all ingame characters have been reworked to match the uniforms. So this mod can also be used in Single Player:

They are better. But the comm badges are still quite blurry and a bit too big. Is there any chance of those being fixed?
That is, if you decide to publish these ones. If you do, could you make them mutator controlled like the evil uniforms you are working on?
Im sorry to drag yhis thread away from its original intent. Thats why I suggested that you make the classic voyager uniforms have their own thread seperate to this one.
I am still interested in seeing more of your evil uniforms and I think the rest of the community will be aswell.

I have reworked the Voy canon Uniforms (higher resolution & new smaller com badge)
I think the com badge is maybe a little too small now..

I have magnified the com badge to about 110% of it?s original size so that they match with my First Contact uniforms com badges and I think they?re just perfect now. I have also done some minor corrections on Saffi?s collar. So the canon Voyager Uniforms are basically done now.
I?m now concentrating on getting the evil uniforms done.
If someone could help me with the gloves-problem?
I need to realign the textures on the 3D model - I have 3D SMax available but I have no clue how to open the NIF models...

She didnt wear red underclothes in the stock game. But yeah I agree, too much gold on the bridge is distracting. I vote for Kiska to be wearing red aswell.

thats what i did straight away when i got the voyager uniforms. i changed the con officer's uniform to red and made kiska into a male

as far as I remember every helm officer was wearing red uniform for ex. in TNG pilot has red uniform , FC - Hawk has red uniform , VOY - Paris has red uniform, so Kiska also should wear red uniform

I'd have to say good work on the Evil uniforms. However, somehow I think the overall look, looks a bit "blurry" in places. And the gloves doesn't look "lether-ee" enough if that's even a word :P
On a sidenote: jb06, where did you get the Voyager crewmembers for the Intrepid bridge? Looks awesome :D

here?s an update on the evil uniforms;
I have finished all the textures so far - if you have any improvement suggestions I would be glad to hear them.
I`m still not satisfied with Saffi - she?s still looking very harmless
Concerning the blurry spots, these are stretched textures - as you can see, the polygon models of the crew are not very detailed - they are edgy and sometimes missaligned.
There?s not much I can do about that...
The leather glove textures are actually taken from pictures of real gloves. They are not perfect, but I think they are sufficient for these models. At least you can recognize them as gloves.
Btw I?m still looking for someone who can give me a helping hand concerning the index-finger problem...
Meanwhile I will commence with the production of a mutator script.

You could try to make Saffi look like she has a plasma burn scar on one side of her face or something. Im not sure if you can do that on these models but its just an idea off the top of my head.
Hope all goes well with making the evil uniforms mutator controlled. Will you also be making the Voyager uniforms mutator controlled aswell?

Your forgetting the customary "goatee" on evil males in Star Trek :P
Granted it wasnt seen on any of the evil males in the Voyager episode, but Spock had one in the Mirror-universe. Might look good on an evil crewmember.

However the problem is that a goatee requires the adding of a polygon extension on the chin otherwise it wouldn?t look realistic - I could try that but I have no clue how to open the model files.
Any suggestions?

Perhaps not, my goatee is actually cut pretty low... ;-)

Status update on the uniforms mod:
I have finished the mutator scripts for both the canon and the evil uniforms - i have reworked the collars of all ingame characters to match the uniforms so that both mutators can be used in single player mode without any visual bugs.
Things that still need to be done:
Get rid of the index-finger problem on the gloves....
replace Saffi?s trill head with a more evil looking one....
Any help would be appreciated.
If these problems are worked out, I will release the mod and upload it to BCfiles.

You could make evil Saffi a klingon or even an ex-borg drone (pale skin, some kind of texture tht still shows an implant). Just a thought.
I meant to ask this earlier. Is this mod intended for just the bridge crew or is every Starfleet person in the game effected by this when the mutator for either uniform is activated? (evil Picard, evil Commander Graff etc as well as voyager uniform Picard, voyager uniform Commander Graff etc would rule)
If its just the bridge crew that is still awesome.
What else have you tried to fix the index finger problem?

i for one liked that ep of voyager, i liked the idea that a war-like starfleet could exist in some universe...
nice paris and chakotay too...
the only thing that would irk me ever so slightly, and i do mean slightly, is the little too pronounced line from the collar down the front of the shirt...

all charakters have been redone with voyager & evil collars - I have also changed the colors of some of the crewmen who appear on the bridge every now and then so that they are not exclusively gold.
the only problem is Admiral Liu who should actually wear a TNG Admirals uniform - I think the starfleet admirals never had Voyager style uniforms - in the first few seasons of ST DS9 they had the TNG uniforms and during the last 3 seasons Admiral Ross was seen in the First-Contact uniform with admirals badges and with gold decorated collar.
You?ll have to forgive me about that.. :lol:
Maybe I?ll try to make one from scratch someday - but this could take some time..
Concerning the gloves - problem I need someone who can tell me how to edit the NIF model of the male starfleet body and how to realign the textures on it.
As I said before, I have no experience or knowledge in 3D modelling.
Maybe someone could even do the required changes on the models for me and post the corrected NIF file here on the forums...
It?s not much work if you know how to do it....

I have downloaded NIFScope and I have managed to open the NIF body files but there are only dummy textures included with the models.
they are named head & body.tga
the script files in scripts/bridge/characters decide which textures are used in the game for each model.
I don?t have the time to figure this thing out all by myself - I?ll need some assistance from you guys... anyone?

Small update on the uniforms
I have played around with Saffi?s eyes a bit and I think she?s looking quite evil now.
I have to admit that red eyes are not a very creative idea but they have a very nice effect nonetheless.
They?re more Terminator style - lol
what do you think?

Yeap, she does, though i'm not fan of the red color, i like how you done Kiska's eyes.
As for nifskope, i don't know how it'll export the characters back to max, even with the new max plugins that were posted in the modding forums.
Best suggestion is to check twice the hand texture.

hmmm ya i agree with LC on the red eyes lol not sure they go well, tho you could add it in as a "gag" tho, as a seperate folder all its own with the mod, when complete lol :) sort of like an "alternative" for those who would like to have it...

I know what you mean - I just had to do something with her blue eyes - blue eyes are inacceptable for an evil commander I think.
Thank god I made a backup of all the versions of evil Saffi - I will include an older version of Saffi (with evil look but without occular implant and red eyes) as the default model for the mod - in case you want to change it I will also include the red-eyed version.

Since Voyager never had its own 'Mirror Universe' episode, this one is considered close enough and also one of my favourites. Its a good ep. Keep a look out for it (I cant watch Voyager anymore since Virgin Media were being b***munchers and took away the channel because it got too expensive).
Ramblings aside,
Looking forward to threse uniforms. I suggest that you make Saffi's head all borg. The Borg were evil by the way, why not have an ex-borg as a commander but as a punishment, her appearence wasnt ever changed :D

Those uniforms look really, really, REALLY good. I don't know how to describe it... they just have a certain "look" to them that makes them incredible...

Another small update on the Voyager Uniforms mod.
I have redone Admiral Liu?s uniform in TNG-Voy style.
The whole thing took me almost 5 hours because that stupid collar of Liu was modelled really bad and all the textures got stretched and wrapped - but I think I have solved the problem as good as possible. The gap on the throat is a bit too large but I had no other choice but to spare that part.

Unfortunately I was not able to get rid of the gloves error - it?s the model files - they are mapped badly - I need to import them into 3D Max, fix the mapping error and then retexture the model.
I have tried it myself but since I don?t have any experiences in 3D modelling or mapping I wasn?t able to solve it.
Legacy said he?d be looking at the prob but I guess he?s busy with Jb06?s heads right now.
I will contact him again when the Voyager Crew mod is completed - hopefully he can help me finish this project.

I?m not sure about the bottom edge on the dress - was it gold decorated or not - I can?t find a full sized pic of a TNG admirals uniform.

Perfect...except for one thing. The com badge looks quite big and is blurred.
Thats always the thing that lets uniform textures down these days.

Btw is there anything more you?d like to see ingame, concerning Starfleet uniforms?
If i find time and patience, I might be doing some more in the near future - I might also take a look at some of the other FC uniforms as well.

Just making sure this project isn?t going to die...
- OK guys I have still not managed to correct the gloves error because of my horrible 3D-modding skills - and it seems like this is never going to happen - or at least not anytime soon since Legacy is a very busy man and I don?t know anyone else who would be willing to help me with this problem.
However I could of course release the imperfect stuff that I?ve created so far and add a gloves patch later on.
It?s up to you to decide.
In the meantime I have done some more work on the standard FC Uniforms.

Well, give me a few more days and I will try to scratch all the things I have together & wrap them up into a nice little downloadable package. (TNG admirals uniform, Voyager uniforms mutator & Evil Starfleet uniforms mutator & maybe the reworked FC uniforms as well if I get the permission of the original creator)
Btw, I have also done some work on Voyager's crew faces in the meantime (I have finished Torres, Kim, & Tuvok atm) I also have my work of The Doctor available which I did for JB06's Voyager crew uniforms mod - I don't have much time to finish them atm (Faces are really hard work - if you want the complete VOY crew I suggest you DL JB06's mutator pack) but if you still want them I can put together a small "Living Witness" mutator pack that features them in these Evil Starfleet uniforms.
