Title: Charleston-class Retexturing
Post by: Flux Capacitor on July 09, 2007, 01:11:23 PM
Hey guys, I'd like to try my hand at retexturing the Charleston class (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Charleston_class;3739) but when I open its folder in the BC directory all I find are NIF files, with no TGAs. Am I missing something here?

No , your not missing something, it seems as though the original author, converted even the tga texture file to Nif

Damn. Is there a way to extract the textures?

Textures converted and ready for use. Enjoy!

Hope to see a more "SNS Galaxy"-style texturing, cause the design is pretty cool ;)

Awesome, thanks! Now how would I reincorporate the textures back into the game?

If you place the .tga textures in the same folder where all the .nif textures are (and remove the existing .nif textures), I believe the game should be able to find the .tga ones automatically.

import the model into milkshape 1.7.10
When you next check the Directory you will find the application has converted them for you...

*I know its been answered but this is for future reference*

That's partially accurate. You also need the fixed .NIF importer, or else it will auto-convert the .nif textures improperly as it will screw up the hue values on the textures.

And if I don't have Milkshape...?

Lol, I found that out the hard way.  You'll see the blue bussards and red warp coil grill on the sovvie tribute video (Re-Edit), fleet movement scene.

Where can I get this fixed .nif importer, if I may ask?

I apologize because I have never done any mods whatsoever for this game, so I'm pretty clueless...what does the NIF importer do?

Also, how could I get the SNS Galaxy texture maps in TGA format?

The nif importer imports a nif to milkshape. The SNS Galaxy's textures come as tga's by default.

Hey guys, I just reloaded some ships I hadn't tried in a while and found the Charleston again. I was never able to finish the retexturing I had planned but I'd like to get back at it. Problem is, even after having the .nif files converted to .tga, I can't just toss the .tgas back into the ship's folder after deleting the nifs. Apparently the model will only register the nif's as texture. Is there any way I can get it to recognize the tgas like just about every other ship does?

If you can, catch me on WLM, and I can re-export the nif so that it calls the tgas directly.

I believe this is the SFC version of lord biles charelston. Lord Bile is still arround, not sure what his permission is, I will try and find out that for you. Be sure to bug me as I'll probably forget.
