Title: BC PCI-E issues? please help!!
Post by: stroudiemusic on August 28, 2007, 09:53:10 AM
Hi there.  Have been playing BC for about 3 years now but recently bought a new laptop with a Geforce GO 6800 Ultra PCI-Express card and ever since then I cannot get past a faulty main menu screen.  It shows just the Sovereign spinning round and there is no mouse pointer.  Also tried it on my friends pc with a Geforce 8800 running with the same symptom. Is there an issue with running BC on PCI-Express cards and if so are there any fixes or patches for it? please help. Cheers

I am using a radeon x1650 pci-e card and I don't have this problem.

A console report would be what people are looking for.  Or from the "ConsoleTrackDump.txt" from Frontiers Console Tracker. http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Console_Tracker;76613 (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Console_Tracker;76613)

I'm sure someone here can help you out...

Cant use the menu at all.  Just comes up like this pic......

This is after a fresh install.

Cant get the console up either.  Neither can I access anything on the main menu.

What kind of mods have you installed?
If you are running in -TestMode (enough threads in this forum to explain how) then you can pull down the console and press Enter to get the error.
Mostlikely something happend before the GUI could properly initialise (it's even possible something happend there).

Right.

Testmode doesnt seem to work and I still cant pull up the console.  Nor can I get any console error logs from anywhere.  Is it possible that my original installation may be corrupt?

Thanks again.

I suppose it's possible, but unlikely.

1. How did you start TestMode?
2. What mods have you installed?

I startred test mode by changing the command line properties to "stbc.exe -TestMode" as it states in the technical FAQ but still cant get the console up.

I'm running a fresh install of BC with the 1.1 patch installed.  Want to put the Kobayashi Maru mod on when it works!

Could you paste the entire Target line?

And what type of keyboard are you using?
If it isn't American (querty) then try the Multiply key (*)
