Title: Intrepid Bridge v3 - BETA REMOVED
Post by: Sean on August 15, 2006, 12:14:09 PM
When LC first posted his images of his Ultimate Intrepid Mesh in this (http://www.teamlynxifer.co.uk/bcn/viewtopic.php?t=30) topic, Mark asked me if I would mind fixing the errors in the intrepid bridge mesh ready for LCs release. During the remake of the bridge mesh Mark released a high poly bridge test (http://www.teamlynxifer.co.uk/bcn/viewtopic.php?t=115), to see what we could push the limits too. If you have not run this test bridge and would like to help us out, please test it and post your results in that thread.

As this test has been successful sop far, I began to remodel key parts of the intrepid bridge in higher poly.

Please note this bridge is still a Work In Progress and as such the images posted do not contain the final textures or lighting as we still have much to do. This bridge in now roughly 50% through the Light Mapping process and which should be completed in about a week or 2 (no promises so please don't bug me if I dont post an update before then, we don't normally give deadlines).

Enjoy the pictures and please post your comments below.

Cheers
Sean

That looks amazing, there are a few EF textures that could do with an overall but that pretty incredible.

Just out of curiosity, whats the polycount of the command chairs?..

the textures are not final... youve got to finish mapping the thing before you can worry about textures

Incredible.  What's the poly count on this sucker, and can we expect an "Ultimate" series of high poly bridges in the near-to-mid future?

I'm really happy that you guys are revamping this bridge while the original EF1 model was great on it's own, this is just taking it to a whole new level.

Seriously though great job.

ok poly counts.... here goes

1034 - Per Crew Chair x5
2023 - per command chair x2
1445 - Helm console x1
360 - New railings x1
592 - Per ops/tactical area x2

16357 - Total poly count

As for the previous questions...

a) Textures are not final as stated in the first post, some are whereas others are merely placeholders to correct/perfect the mapping

b) The voyager lcars are from marks intrepid bridge retexture, unless your refering to the tactical lcars pannels on the console (not the rear) they were taken from StarTrek Captains Chair as placeholders

c) At current, any model that has already finished modelling stages will not be changed by me for now, id sooner get this one out and then complete some new models before revamping most old meshes.. although im sure i will be modelling any new sets in higher poly once we know that they can be handled.. although a test bridge was issued, this will be our first high poly model and i dont want to waste time revamping all bridges incase it limits the potential downloaders, The reason i titled it "Ultimate" is because i want to release at roughly the same time as LC does his intrepid

As am I :D Those command chairs look awesome. At 16k polygons, if this is the final mesh i'd have to say you have done a great job on the Intrepid bridge already. Once the texturing is final, i'm betting this will be the best looking bridge for BC :P (until the Prommy bridge shows up... lol)

So u can see the model changes, i've taken some renders of the released version and the updated WIP without their mapping. This way u can see the model changes more easily.

The renders 1.jpg-4.jpg are of the released mesh
The renders 1a.jpg-4a.jpg are of the new rebuild

Great improvements ;) My only crit is the angle of the helm consols, which seems too steep in the model. Check out these screen caps to see what I mean. http://voy.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/1x01/PDVD_115.jpg

It looks to me like there just alot of auxillary interfaces, say, in case something bad happens so that the Captain or First Officer don't need to go as far to get to a proper console.

Anyway, it keeps getting better and better. :)

The first intrepid Bridge was a dream come true all that time ago. But this is truely amazing. This will be the perfect to accompany LC's model.

Since we are able to walk round the bridge now, will you be modeling the Ready Room and the conference room?

I dunno if this has ever been asked before lol.

no, and no... its just not needed.. other then to be able to look at them they would be without  function

Anywho, that's immersion's purveiw. Mark, maybe you should ask LJ what must be done with the doors to make them functional for immersion?

EDIT
*uses brain*
Which you almost certainly already have. Sorry for being such a moron...

HOLY SH*T that'd rock! Be all like

"Computer, coffee, b*tch!"

Then you strike a crazy anime pose and scream

"QUICK EMBIBEMENT ATTACK!"

And drain the cup. Then the cup's like

"Woah! Holy sh*t, man! that's some crazy stuff!"

Or something.

But seriously, for immersion's purposes it's quite important to have these rooms, there could be first person missions where you're not the captain, for example. Going to talk to Janeway in her ready room.

I'm not saying you have to model the room, that can be done later. Just that for immersion's sake, perhaps you should consider making all doors on all bridges double sided and functional from now on, they can stay locked until there's something behind them.

Immersion or BP can be used later to add rooms behind the doors.

If we're on the same frequency, it's the logic storage part that's giving me problems. I'm seriously considering writing a XML parser for Python.

how about writing functions within the autoload file and then adding those functions to the dictionary?  they can be then tailored to suit the needs of the bridge exactly and any logic becomes simple with a few global varaibles.

if properly commented | explained then i don't see why it wouldn't work?

That would remain more backwards compatible than what I had. Which would make the bridges generate BSODs when played on a not BPCore 1.0 (or are we higher than that now?) install.

ok guys, time for a vote i think.

Explanation: During the run of voyager there was a warehouse fire and most of the bridge set was destroyed - certain things changed when they rebuilt the bridge, including the carpet (see attatched). The question is, which do you want on your bridge? old or new?
Title: Re: Ultimate Intrepid Bridge (Very Image Extensive)

Include both through the SDT of bridges.;)

Unless the changes also include a lot of structural changes.
But we may be able to "mask" that with the extra objects mechanism.

i prefer the carpet on the second image..  i like grey, it has a more military feel to it, versus the brown...  altho the brown gives a more comfortable feel...
and that's interesting about the warehouse fire, i never knew that...

the bottom pic is the newer version of the bridge (i think?)
tho to be honest i hadnt even noticed a change in bridge designs thru the show lol
but the bottom pic shows Janeway, and her hairstyle in the pic (short) is how her hair style was ion the later seasons, so im thinking the bottom pic is the newer style of the bridge...

You know with X-wing alliance modders use an install program that let's people choose certain things ,perhaps this would work for us too? here is the site if you wanna know?  http://www.xwaupgrade.com/

some people already use Installers in BC. (not BCMI)

Also the grey one looks better in the show and Elite Force but the brown looks better in BC.

Ya I know but they haven't had an installer in which you can choose certain aspects like a Grey or brown carpet so I thought I would just mention it

Are you referring to the animated console between the CO and XO chairs?

I'm quite looking forward to this bridge and all the details that have been added to it, espessally the moving console at the different alert status'. I guess all I have to say now is good job you guys on making this bridge feel more like what we saw in the series.

What else?

I mean, it isn't as if such a thing ever happend before. No body would even expect it (well, I suppose most would assume that we would do such a thing somewhere in the future, but nobody knew when).
I assumed people would notice directly since it's something they didn't expect it.

Nor is this the Disc, where people simply see the things, but if they can't believe it, they won't see it, even if it's dancing naked in front of them.

wow - i just watched this; that is amazing!!  animated models on a bridge based on alert status?  outstanding! i had no idea!  :) i always thought that would never be possible, and really opens up a whole new realm for the future of bridge-modding - i wasnt even aware that it is currently possible in the relased version of the Core...  truly amazing!
the bridge itself - what a major improvement!  no more disappearing consoles when walking over to felix or miguel lol - brex looks much better in a chair!  and such a great improvement of the red alert panels on the back of the bridge, they always seemed barely visable before...  the lightmapping is so much much better, the textures, everything - the whole bridge is simply stunning!  well done guys!  i cant wait to install it :)

edit:  AWESOME choice for a background song!  lol - i knew that sounded familair, but i couldnt pinpoint it! that's great!  ("without the Scarface theme") hahahaaa :)

the roof no longer turns red at RA.. Now then, update time.

This has been on slow down for a while because i got an offer from explorer (Star Trek Voyager: Conflict Of Interests) to do the intrepid LCARS since he was going to do them for his mod anyway.. Explorer makes awesome LCARS so I decided it was a good idea to hold the project back a while for him to do his work.

Well the LCARS are about 80% done, and I have gone through the model touching things up for a third time... heres what it all looks like now:

While I didnt have the same problems as Kori, I am having one problem. The problem is, the console between the captain and XO chair wont 'unfold' when at red alert. I thought it was able to do this. I have the BPCore Gold beta so it should be working.

Also, shame that none of the LCARS are animated but ohwell, cant have everything.

Thats a common animation, all bridges use it - even if it looks stupid.

Quote
and Diaz is standing in his chair (And threw the floor)

Shouldnt be the case, ill go thru the anims and check its not a complication with the old intrepid bridge.

Indeed, we are trialing a bit of code that disables the animation when the user is running it on the old core, it seems to stop the animation loading on all cores tho :P, we will get it fixed for the next beta.

Also, shame that none of the LCARS are animated but ohwell, cant have everything.

It?s a choice between performance and candy eye, and we pick performance.
Besides we can have higher resolution maps this way.
Title: Re: Intrepid Bridge v3 - Beta on page 6
Post by: Mark on April 03, 2007, 09:28:34 AM
its a very simple choice, BC loves polies and hates textures... so you can either have a map with many texture animations that will run slow (ie: enterprise A bridge) or you can have a bridge with lots of detail and no animations (ie most new bridges).

Personally i hate the texture animations anyway, LCARs shouldnt look like freeze frames.
Title: Re: Intrepid Bridge v3 - Beta on page 6
Post by: bsilver2988 on April 03, 2007, 10:24:27 AM
the lack of animated maps is a good thing cause it also makes it possible in the future for even more texture swapping to be done.  Animated maps can't be swapped.

hehe I LOVE this bridge, it was still quik to load, which i think is an amazing feat in its self, the textures are very crisp, and it also damages well when in battle, look at pic below, Ignore the crew in the pic, i think there is something wrong on my end, but absolootly AMAZING work guys, very impressed, im even noticing things that i never realised was in the intrepid bridge before GREAT WORK !! :D now i just cant wait for the ult intrepid now :D Oh also if u dont like the too much smoke/fire look, Its not the bridges fault its one of my own personal fav mods that Gives a more authentic feel when ure close to destruction ;)

In case anyone is having problems with animations not working or floating crew, the following instructions will resolve those issue's. This is a repost from the BP Core thread.

Quote from: MLeo
I think I fixed it.
Somewhere along the line a faulty Bridge Fix (old thing, included in all but the oldest bridges) was introduced.
And you guys simply had the bad luck of recieving it.

I think Mark will put out a new package with it fixed soon, but before that, here's the fix for the faulty file.
Yeah, don't worry if it appears to be exactly the same as the old one, since there is only 1 character wrong.
It goes to scripts/Custom/Autoload, see if that works.

Or atleast, I would, but as you have read (you have, haven't you?) in the announcement, attachments don't work yet.
So here is how to fix it.

First, back up the following file (just a copy and change the extension to something like bck or org, or you could copy it to somewhere other than Autoload or Custom): scripts/Custom/Autoload/000-Fixes20030221.py
Now, open up the file (not the backup), I suppose Notepad will, do but remember to change the file type to All Types, and make sure the extension of the file is py). And scroll to the bottom of it.
You will see this line:
Code: [Select]
if int(Foundation.version[0:8]) > 20030221:Change the greater than sign into a lesser than sign (change the > to a <).
That's it.

Btw, the result is:
Code: [Select]
if int(Foundation.version[0:8]) < 20030221:

The other issue was with the Intrepid, that the animations didn't work.
Go to data/Animations/ and rename the intrepid directory to bp this is case sensitive.

yea...i mean it shouldnt be that hard to change right? we just gotta figure out which Lightmap it is i'd think.  I cant seem to find what's causing the shadow tho.  is it coded into the NIF?

p.s. - yay..the captain's console works now.  great work guys.

Hsave you uninstalled the previous intrepid before installing the new one? (not that it should happen even that way?)
If so, try removing it and installing the beta again, pls.

Im getting that shadow thing as well.

Also, on the area around the ceilling dome, there appears to be black suares random;y placed, was that intentional?

i dont think that's directly the issue..but i did have a thought this morning.

anybody remember that version of the intrepid bridge that was released a while back, which included Bridge Plugin red alert textures?  it was kinda buggy, but it worked for the most part.  he also released a Blue Alert version, cause MVAM maps werent available back then.  Now this new intrepid bridge overwrote his old version of it..but what if it didnt overwrite all of the core files, and now they're contradicting each other, and some extra lightmaps are being mixed onto the bridge now?

kinda out there i know..but what do you guys think?

i dunno; i'm fairly certain that i did have that Intrepid Bridge retexture on my backup install, and then installed the Intrepid v3 over it...  yet i dont seem to have that "shadow" effect...

(and in all honesty, i didnt even notice the black squares until smeg just now mentioned it lol)

Title: Re: Intrepid Bridge v3 - Beta on page 6

The ceiling black spots are vray rendering errors, which happend when rendering the lightmaps.
I usually scan the model for them and fix it, but this one escaped me. Not hard to fix.

ok i've uninstalled the bridge and reinstalled it.  i still get the same shadow across the ceiling.  it takes up more than half of it as you can see from the picture.  could one of the files packaged into the installer be the wrong lightmap?

Hmm.. perhaps it got damaged somehow when downloading it... Jimmy, you have the beta from the install or Mark sent it to you?

to be perfectly honest, i can't be 100% sure...  Mark did send me a copy, and i think that is the one i am using...
i don't think i installed the version available here...  altho, the beta version in the 3rd Era Forum, i did install that one (a long time ago) and everything seemed fine with it...

no it definitely wasnt damaged when it was being downloaded.  I deleted the downloaded file and re-downloaded the entire thing.  Then i reinstalled it.  Also, other people have the exact same problem, so i dont think its a problem with the file.

i think it must have been one of the lightmaps put into the installer by accident, cause the only ppl who dont seem to have the problem are the ones who were sent the beta prior to it being posted here

Well the one that was posted here i downloaded and i'm not getting your problem. The only one i'm having is the same one as supersmeg... the black squares. One in the top left and one it the top right of the ceilling.

@bsilver: What type of Video card do you have?

Since the small black squares is due to a vray problem.

nvidia quadro nvs m110

it's never given me any bridge commander trouble before though.

i should also add that i dont have the black square problem, and i also believe i'm not the only one with the ceiling shadow.  it has to be something in the download...something that perhaps the people who already had the beta prior to this release wouldnt get, even if they installed this new beta.

The only problem was the slight problem in the naming of a single directory.

Just go to data/Animations and rename "intrepid" to "bp".

remotely similar...yes.   i'm curious.  on the graphics card driver...does extension limit need to be on or off for bridges to  work right??  i recently installed Battlestar Galactica: Beyond The Red Line. (Great game btw...check it out if you have a chance...it's a free download on their forums).  in order for it to work i had to disable extension limit.  i dont recall ever having troubles with the intrepid bridge prior to changing that on my driver.

i have a serious hunch here...that whatever that BP capable intrepid bridge was a while back...it has some stray file that wasnt overwritten by the new one here..and it's causing these random mapping problems for us here.  did you have that one installed man?

whatever...i'm getting a new install the minute KM 1.0 comes out...so we'll see if that solves the problem.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I thought this was the most suitable place to post.

I was wanting to know if I would be allowed to use these textures in another game, both in the original formats and giving credit to whoever made them in the Readme?

I am currently making a Voyager map for Elite Force and love these textures, any answer is respectfully recieved.

Thanks for your help.

I was just wondering if the thing about the black squares on the ceiling was fixed. It was said that it was some kind of vray error (???) and then someone asked what type of video card was used with this (X1900XTX 512mb Radeon for me by the way).

Everything else in the bridge works perfectly.

I have downloaded KM 1.0 and I am really amazed by the quality of the final version of the intrepid bridge.
However one thing that came to my attention - the plaque and the registry on the status LCARS display indentify the ship as the U.S.S Voyager - but as far as I remember the Voyager LCARS had a more blueish tone - also the colors of the helm console & the command-chairs are wrong

I have created a different plaque & ship status display which indentify the Ship as the U.S.S. Bellerophon which was seen in the DS9 episode "inter arma enim silent leges".

If anyone's interested in my work I will upload the modified textures here.

btw - what font did you guys use for the ship name on the plaque?

what you can do is download  KM1.0 to a temp folder (NOT your BC folder) and then just physically extract what you want, thats what i have done, ive done this with a bunch of mods and the new intrepid and the bridge. but i have hit a problem with that and i hope someone here can help me, on the intrepid bridge brex is still in the old position of the older intrepid bridge, he starts off sat down in the right place then he stands up and 'Phases' thru the wall, as tho he is still in the old animation set. and the XO console doesn't raise! im sure that this is just a problem with a file that i have forgot to copy across, so if someone could pls tell me what the files are that deal with that animation (and yes, i have got the ones from the animation folder called 'bp') then i will be one happy chappy!
thanx

The 'BP' folder is for the animated fixtures on the Intrepid bridge. Like the command console between the command chairs. The problem is you need to delete any old INT Animations before adding in the new versions. Along with any INT Bridge/Character.py scripts. That should fix it. -BR32
