Can anyone suggest any BC ships that are in need of some tender loving care and a new texture or two?,
You know those ships that have been sitting on bcfiles for a few years gathering dust?
recommend a ship here and ill pick a couple to fix up a bit,
There are alot of them floating around and the textures are a bit outdated, im having trouble deciding which ones to fix up.
i would prefer ships that are atleast a few years old and i would love some suggestions :D,

Well im sure Jimmy would have suggested this later on but how about the nova class? that also could do with a new model aswell as textures, but it would be cool if someone could redo the equinox *hint hint*

The textures that are available are not the standart we have, though it's a nice ship

perhaps this nova would be sufficent? :), i have so many Star Trek models in .Max and .3ds on my HD i have been collecting since 2002 (the last count was about 104 ships and stations) and more than half of them dont exist in bc and if they do they are low quality ones,
I would love nothing more than to spend all my free time making these available for people but the problem is i hav'nt found out how to convert them properly, i have 3d max 9 and 5, Gmax, Lightwave, Niftools, Nifscope, Full version of milkshape and photoshop 7 so i have all the applications i would need but cant find any relevant information that explains in depth how to convert .max or .3ds into .nif, so if anyone wants to take 30 mins to an hour out of there day to explain to me the steps that need to be taken to accomplish this you will see an enormous amount of new versions of high quality Canon and non-canon ships :)

ya, it looks like BC might struggle with it lol
however, i am *all for* a new and sharp looking Nova Class - she is easily one of my fav classes, and BC needs a really sweet looking one; one comparable to the other amazingly beautiful ships being done these days... :)

well if anyone knows anyway of getting in contact with redragon i can start with the nova, but from what i have read he is currently not available?,
The .3ds of his ship is on bcfiles and if i remember correctly i think it has a free permission to mod policy with it?,
If anyone can shed any light on this i would be greatful!

Its not as good as it looks. Hardly any modeled detail on it (Phasers textured on, et cetera). Default textures are a mess aswell.
To convert the model you showed before, using 3D Max, export and save it as a .3ds format model. Then, assuming you have the required plugins for MilkShape, locate where you saved and exported the model file (IE: whatever.3ds), click on, in Milkshape, 'File' then go down to the 'Import' and choose 'Autodesk 3DS...'. When that is done it will ask you where the model file is. Locate the file, select it and then click 'Open'.
The model will then appear on the MilkShape grid. After that is done, you need to select groups on the model that need to be textured. I havnt done this properly yet but JB06 knows how to do the textureing bit. Anyway, after that, with Milkshape still open, click on 'File' then down to 'Export' and choose 'Bridge Commander NIF...' from the drop down menu. Choose a name for the file that is to be exported. Then click 'Save'.
Eh whola! You now then should have a BC NIF format model saved somewhere.
EDIT: Also, unless you do modding for any other games that requires this, uninstall GMAX. It is useless for BC modding and just takes up harddrive space.
You should need only 4 things when it comes to BC modding.
1. Photoshop for the textures
2. MilkShape (Or 3D Max 3.1 for professionalism. Max 3 is the only one that came with the BC NIF plugin as a standard plugin as far as I am aware)
3. BC SDK for the Model Property Editor and stock game ship hardpoints to play around with.
4. Decent knowledge of what you are doing.

yeah. i have managed to get that far before but there were certain issues when the other ships i experimented with, Poly count being to high, or the ship facing the wrong way (flying backwards while facing forward for example) :(

Oh, and i pretty much always get a too many faces or vertices when trying to load into milkshape : /

It doesnt import the ship in the direction you want it to fly in the game. You have to do that manually. Also, when scaleing a ship in Milkshape, it will always double to the size of it when it gets exported to BC.
Example: You scale it to 200m long, export it to BC Nif, in the game, it will end up 400m long.
When its in Milkshape, try cutting what you might think are 'non-important' parts of the model, like double face or whatever. Adjust the model just enough on somewhere its not noticeable to get the poly count down, Then export it to BC Nif.

Beautiful Nova Class you got there lint!! 70k polys doesn't sound too bad... would love to see that one for BC.
Now here's my suggestion for a nice re-texture of an old ship..... now please no one gag or laugh, but how about p81's Sovereign?
I have several different Sovvy mods in my BC installs. And of course there's no denying that CG's is by far the best. But I have to admit that I have a special place in my heart for p81's Sovvy... as bad as it is.
It was one of the very first mods that I installed and I couldn't believe (as a noobie that is) how much better it seemed to be than the stock Sovvy so, I still have it and occasionally play with it for old times sake.

the only problem with the p81 sovy is that no matter how much you kick arse at texturing i think the model itself would hold it back, but im checking out every ship mentioned so it would only seem fair i have a look at this one as well :)

There's Lots of unique ships on BCfiles that have less than stellar textures.

that Nova was done by a Mr Mike Wright,
That Mesh is a few years old now, it was created in max 2.5, The Trek 3d Modelling Community is'nt what it use to be anymore, its becoming more difficult to find good quality Trek Meshes,
Alot of the guys who did them have either stopped doing it or dont bother releasing them anymore, And alot of the good sites that use to host them have closed down :(,
But the nova im working on atm is going to be something special, im taking elements from that 3d model and applying them to the lb nova to create an awesome version :)

The Curry and Raging Queen definitely need a little loving. And please, do not use BCmod to package them!

I'd like to see an updated New Orleans, Soul Wolf, Sabre, and as mentioned above, the Eximus.

As for the texturing work on those ships I could handle it but someone else would have to take modelling part,
I'll look on those ships and see what can be done about the texs
I've looked onto one of my favs the eximus and I think I can retexture it to look almost as good as CG Sov :D

i have a cgi prometheus,
But im kind of sick of Fed ships atm, thats why im doing klingon ships, haha.

If that is the ship from Armada 1, I'm gunna want to see that rebuilt too...SFC III mesh is bland plus they got it a bit wrong also...

yer its from both armada and sfc3, its the equivilant of the nebula for klingons, i think its a nice ship myself, and it is due for a rebuild

Seconded. But if you do retexture a Prometheus, please do the MVAM one that comes with MVAM v2.
There have been great Prometheus ships released since them but they have all lacked the ability to use MVAM which was a real shame. If you retexture the MVAM Prometheus, I will give you a cookie every hour for a whole day. Most likely sunday since thats the only day I get off. Too bad users can only give cookies once every hour. LOL.

If you redo the MVAM Prommie, is there any chance you'll make new HPs aswell? The current HPs for the single model and 3 seperated models are kind of a bad mess.

Yup that can be done tho I've never tried to make hp for MVAM ship, you know all those warp core balances etc :)

In the way that the torpedos would only fire when using the default disruptor button. Meaning that you could fire endless torpedos and quantum bursts, but it would still show 300 ( :spartasanta: LOL) in your torpedo bay. And also the fact that the phasers cut through the model at cetain angles.

i was thinking of retexturing Anduril's constitution so that it has a different name and number, and i could do that all the way from 1701 to whenever i decide to stop.
i think it would make for an interesting pack of ships but thats just me.

the FH kicks arse. There are several unreleased bashes including a 6 nacelle warbird double hull (tng D class style) that could be modified so the extra 4 "nacelles" could be heavy weapons pods giving us an amby era rom. There's cruiser versions too.

On that same site, I saw a ship named "Venture class" that looked interesting. Mostly designed after the Intrepid and Sovereign classes. I'm thinking the Century class needs something to go alongside in the mid-size range :D
