right, second problem with the gimp. and Mleo said in a previous topic that it's modding so ;)

I'm trying to get the red bussard, pink/purple.
3-4months back, I did the same, and I believe I used the "bucket fill tool"  I clicked once, and all the red, became pink/purple. The black spots were still there, so it was good.
Now when I do it, it only fills several sections, and If I switch the option "fill whole section" on, it becomes only purple.
anybody any clue? I also tried diffrent modes..

 Thank you.
-
what i would do is create a second layer on top, fill that with the purple and set the layer mode to colour or overlay (infact experiment with each layer mode till you get the effect you want.)

Also try using the magic wand to select the purple and just fill it in that way (although that is a photoshop technique and can be a little messy, im not sure if gimp has that tool!)

 post if it does/doesnt work!
-
Wel I dont know what I did,  I was using all modes I could find, and I was getting frustrated, and hit a button, and it worked lol...  ty!

 edit:  worked, ty again ;)
-
				Hi again!
I'm getting more into modding etc, and noticed an very VERY annoying thing.
The gimp loads tga files not properly, I read something on the internet that it doesn't load the alpha channels or something.
Point is, I cant continue with this problem, is there an option/plug-in that works? :(

load it in this instead, from here you can edit both the image and the alpha in whatever editing software you want
-
				Thanks, that worked:)!

-
Or you can turn alpha's off in the channels panel (other tab of the layers panel).

-
I cant find that hmm...  Is it an option which you see in the attachment?

btw I still cant find a way to add an alpha layer or something, because when I change the hull and just save it, it goes white in game * had a topic about that* But still cant find that lol.

-
You are missing a third window.

Check the Dialog menu if there is something resembling "lagen" (or layers). In that same menu there should also be something like channels. I'm sorry, I don't know the Dutch word for that.
-
Thought so, found it "kanalen" was the Dutch word. Right I have that window popped open, and my tga. file is open to. You say: turn the alpha channel off.

Attachement: After I open the tab.

Do I click on the eye "alpha" or what..?
-
Yes. Click the eye and it'll all change ;)!

-
				It did not..

-
That looks like it can't even read the file, since no preview of the channel is shown.

-
hmm, I'll stick with the tga editor than..

My other Question is, *Yes there is a topic about it, but I like this main one* When I save them, And I am ingame, the textures goes all white. That has to do with the Alpha layers I believed. Now Mleo, you said what to do, but I still dont get it.
-
Wlell, I'm afraid I don't know anything about that.

I just knew that the type of problem you first described could be solved by turning the alpha channel off (via de eye icon).
-
Do you mean there are no textures applied, or they are just glowing insanely?

-
if the ship is just glowing white, that means that there is no alpha channel, sry Mleo, but you can't just turn it off

-
				It glows all white.

-
Thats a problem with the specular maps. I had that on some ships.

-
its most likely caused by the alpha channel being completely white or limeys solution... thus it makes the brightness off the scale... aka ur pic. the alpha needs to be black then add the lighter parts where it is necessary like windows etc.

-
I had this with the Sovereign to.  Is there a way to fix this lightshow? ^^

-
I said.... the alpha needs to be black and the white parts only parts like windows, engines etc.

-
Yes, but I'm new to all this so I have absolutley no idea what your talking about..

-
Just send it over msn n i'll fix it :P

 ~Jb06
-
yea well hope that worked, and still, I need to do it myself in future..

-
cant say i know how to help you with your glow problem, although it seems everyone else has that solution. however if you are having problems with GIMP, you might try http://www.getpaint.net/ i used it alot before i got Photoshop CS2 and it might suit your needs.

-
the point is, the Alpha channel doesnt work or somehting, I'll try later and hope that the program you suggested works...

-
I know resurrection, but it's my thread, and Im having a similair problem.

I ported a ship from Legacy To BC, works good, although the scaling needs work, for a Nebula class, it has the size of 2borg cubes, lol.

The point is, it glows ingame, I know it has to do with alpha layers etc.
but how does this work in PS?
I saved all the dds. files in to tga.
but its missing the Alpha..how do I add them?
-
You ported a ship from Legacy to BC? How did you acomplish this? Has an M3D importer been released for Legacy? If so where does one find said importer?

-
the creator of tha ship, exported the Milkshape file, I impoirted it and exported as .NIF.

-
anyways, somebody knows how to save targa with alpha layers in PS?
Because my TGA files on the ported ship has no Alpha, its one big lightning ship.

-
It probably does have an alpha channel, but it will be white. That's why its bright. Th AC needs to be black & white in places like windows, impulse engines etc. Just make sure when you save your file as a tga, thd show alpha channel is ticked below the filename.

 ~Jb06
-
It doesnt give me an option for "show Alpha channel" while saving to .tga.
The channel is white, so I've noticed, how do I get it right?

Download the TGA Tool, it will makes things much easier for you.
-
when you save it from .DDS to .TGA, Photoshop doesn't save the alpha, unfortunately, TGA tool does not work with .DDS but the same author has another program, designed for converting similar files in Flight Simulator that does work with .DDS and .TGA, it can be found here: http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/download/dxtbmpx.EXE (http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/download/dxtbmpx.EXE).? You are going to have to open the file directly through this program, which you can use to directly export both the image and the alpha to whatever program you want, than reimport it and save it as one file; the same thing goes for TGAtool.

BTW. If Starforce is reading this, I get the impression that we might need a tutorial for using TGA tool properly.

				Thanks Aces.
 Much appreciated!
