Title: U.S.S DAVID
Post by: jericho on April 16, 2008, 11:12:32 AM
I was browsing the internet yesterday and came across a nice TNG Oberth design that i thought i could build myself, I belive the modifications to the original oberth where done by Medjai

So Today I have started to build my own version, using his ideas as a point of reference for the build.

Scale I was thinking slighly larger, at 160m

Armourments - will be upscaled but not overly

MutiVector - it will have the ability, tactical purposes asside, once in location, the ship can divide into two in order to speed up the work, whether it be scientific or medical etc.

WIP...

Thanks for the support fellas.

Yeah I agree, in a science role, the ship breaking up into two to scan seperate asteroids and moons etc.. seems like a quality idea, and medically, splitting up and searching a system for survivors etc.. its quite original, but will have a familiar face.

Thanks for the support.

Of course, the poly count currently sits at 2800. Im going to keep her detailed, but keep the poly limit under 10,000k if possible.

Oh.. and its called David after Kirks son who died in STIII The Search For Spock.
Im thinking of changing the class name to Reobirth or something or mabey i'll leave it but im open to suggestions.

thats a great start indeed :) I like the idea of a medical vessel, there are far to few medical vessels for bc.
Looking forward to see more :)

How about "Hipocrates Class", named after the Hippocratic Oath that all physicians make.
Title: Re: U.S.S DAVID
Post by: mckinneyc on April 16, 2008, 01:35:34 PM
I suggest the Britannic class after the HMHS Brittanic. Maybe other ships in the class could be named after other hospital ships and famous medical personnel and scientists.

Great idea about the seperation and keep up the good work. BC needs more science vessels. :D

I would suggest calling it straight out "David Marcus" because just calling it "David" leaves interpretation wide open.  Or even just USS Marcus as an homage to both David and Carol Marcus.  Genesis may have been a failure, but that doesn't change  the fact that they were accomplished scientists.

that would be better for a didicated medical ship like an olympic.

Is this the ship you are baseing your ship on?

Jericho. I'm thoroughly impressed; Such a low poly count, though I'm already seeing quite a fair bit of detail here. Great work, and superb ideas. I'm really looking forward to future updates.

Title: Re: U.S.S DAVID
Post by: intrepid90 on April 19, 2008, 05:33:35 PM
wow this looks kewl :)
but I have a question:
when seperating, where will it be seperated? already thought about that?
will i be the discus, or the discus + the connecting wing?!
Title: Re: U.S.S DAVID
Post by: jericho on April 19, 2008, 05:40:13 PM
Thats still to be modelled as of yet..

but yet.. the upper pylon on either side will be equipped with a defiant type warp necelle, very slim and low powered.. so from the pylons up will be 1 ship, and from the top of the pylons down will be the other..

I will render seperated shots when the details are modeld

thanks

this is what the original oberth should have looked like in general. I im digging this design Jericho. I do have one question though what is that circular indent on the saucer rim?

Could be a docking port.

spend a couple more polys in these areas to try to smooth it out. looks fantastic, but IMO these spots just dont quite match the rest of the ship in terms of craftsmanship. im curious to see the deflector for this.

Model your own ship, and then come back and tell people how to model :P

First: If you disagree with my comment Technerd89, take it up with me in a Private Message (not public forums).

Second: (Which is also ON TOPIC) is that I think the U.S.S DAVID is a great design, a worthy successor to the Oberth Class.

Great idea. It's the job of a staff member to determine if someones post is out of line. Darkthunder, please keep your vigilantism in check.

Thanks fellas

update :- smoothed out the secondary hull areas, paying perticular attention, to the deflector rim and the rear underside of hull.. also fixed the bottom of the pylons.

buzzards animated - definately when i learn how :)

Crit - always welcome

support - always welcome

and as for your names suggestions, i have chosen one but will be keeping it close to my chest until the textures are started.

Thanks fellas.. lol and as pointed out they are the mvam warp necelles.. small tidy and tucked away, they like the rest of the secondary still need loads of work, as i dont really like them yet.
