I would have posted this sooner but for some reason i haven't been able to log into bc-central.com
this is a kitbash of the akira model, and the end product is to look something like my avatar.
i started with that as the concept drawing and after getting some help from mscott and others, came to this:
and this
(http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?image=alirawip3cn0.png)
this is my first real mod, and so i would like some feedback and/or suggestions if there are any.
EDIT: Not sure why, but the pics aren't showing up
DOUBLE EDIT: The site I took them from is down. sorry
-
I am unable to see the images you posted... however, I can see the avatar, and it looks interesting. Elements taken from the Vor'cha?
-
try adding them as attachments. its under additional options when posting replys 8)
-
i think it has to do with the site i attached them from. its down right now.
new pics from photobucket.

I've started texturing, but am still open to suggestions. Yes, some elements were taken from the vorcha: the teeth. however, i've also added a secondary rollbar, changed the naccels, and scaled to comparativley to DJ's Century class. Currently sitting at 4688 polys
-
I do see some mesh-errors. Better rebuild those parts ;)
-
The overall idea is quite nice.
A War-Akira or something ^^
-
interesting concept, although not quite my cup of tea. good luck on your project

We're in agreement.
Also, why not just upload your pics here? It would save you the effort...
-
Bit scorpion look..:)
-
i put the model into a test run to get some errors to start with, including the mesh errors. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the teeth to stay meshed with the model, and the .vox file didn't help me any. im still a noob at modelling unfortunatley.
@aeries - did not know that you could upload pics here. don't you have to go through an image hoster like photobucket?

Just keep practicing. :]

when you type a post, type whatever you wanna type, then click "additional options" just below the text box, and in the "attach" area, select browse, and navigate to the image you want uploaded. Double click the image and poof, you're almost done. Best to be familiar with the particular file types that can be uploaded, too. Check the allowed file types and attach size just below the attach area. Also note, you may not attach anything over "4096" Kb (4Mb) and you may only make a maximum of six attachments per post. :]
anyways, once you've selected your images, typed your post, etc, just hit 'save' and the post and images will be submitted, assuming there aren't any issues. :]
Cheers,
-Aeries.

Mmm my Star Trek: Starship Creator senses are tingling.
-
lol. yeah, this was the akira model 4-3-3. For those of you who have never played ssc, you were given four different variants for seperate parts of the ship. this is close to one those designs, but I am adding some things I came up with when i fell asleep in physics last month.
-
small update
fixed several mesh issues and smoothened the overall appearence of the ship.
those two parallel lines on the naccels might be kept for cosmetic appeal, but i am thinking about construction entirely new nacceles
-
Looks good :)
It's kinda like a vampire Akira =P
-
*Transylvanian accent*
I come to suck your antimatter!
-
nother update
completeley rebuilt the bridge to one that is lowered and more streamlined, fixed some smoothing errors on the nacceles, and lengthended (spelled right?) the teeth.
as for its vampirish looks....
-
some more pics after i filled out the teeth a little more
(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/laguardia528/aliraWIP12-1.jpg)

-
lengthended (spelled right?)
**lengthened
Also, I'm noticing a LOT of smoothing issues...
-
I'm having serious trouble with smoothing errors, especially on the underside of the saucer by the deflector. I've managed to fix the biggies: the ones that made the model look jumbled and makeshift, but its those nagging ones that I can't correct. :(
-
finally getting the hang of the smoothing issues. pics
(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/laguardia528/aliraWIP16.jpg)
I noticed some people have expressed a disinterest in this model, so I am wondering if it could be made more aesthestically appealing.
-
Well, for one, get rid of the mesh errors in the front teeth. they're appalling. As for more general suggestions: try to build a ship from scratch with some good modelling program (blender comes to mind) before trying to re-do already complete meshes, that never modes well for new modellers.
-
My plan is to first attempt a kitbash, to get the hang of modeling, then start a second version from scratch.
-
completely remade the teeth, and will be trimming them down a bit.
-
Sounds like a plan, dude. The new teeth look good. :]
-
Agreed, much better this time around.
-
Trimmed and reshaped the teeth. Also lengthened the saucer section slightly and fixed some more nagging smoothing errors.
a question to you guys: personally, i feel like this ship is missing something key. It just seems, i dunno, empty.
-
as for ur question, i dont know... but the new teeth loook much better.. and keep in mind that everyone learns at their own pace, so if your going to start by kitbashing, then so be it, as at the moment this does not look to bad. But remember that the peeps you are showcasing your work too in here are used to very high quality, so if their suggestions sometimes feel harsh, their not... their just trying tom kick you along the learning progress.
good luck. good start. :)
-
One idea the springs to mind when I look at this is something resembling this 2 minute MS paint job!
As in, extent the "fangs" round the saucer to smooth it out a little.
-
Dude! Telepath alert! I was gonna suggest the same thing!
-
Great minds think alike, my friend!
-
That's pretty darn awesome... I love the sharp teeth thing you have going.
-
How about extending the platform and having it blend into the front like so:
-
I extended the MS Paint job a bit further, cleaning up the pic a little bit and altering the phaser layout to something a little bit more appropriate. Also a more visible and defined "deflector structure" in the forward edge of the saucer, similar to the Akiraprise.
-
Your pictures remind me of the mantis.
-
I was thinking that, too, yeah. This is an improvement.
-
that's scary, i came up with almost the exact same redesign after i posted. mine was a little more diamond shaped, but that one looks alot better. Will be posting the new model soon.
-
so, something more like this:
I'd add the phaser strips tonight but i don't have enough time, so i will finish this aspect tommorow.
-
Better... but should probably be completely modelled from scratch instead of doing a kitbash. This model would need considerable work, mostly in the way of fixing the smoothing issues playing the model currently.
But the new model design looks better, for sure.
-
that is my intention. now that im nixing the current model (and all its flaw) I can more easily put in the newer designs. should be ready within four days.
-
have constructed the new frame. those are not smoothing issues on the model, because they were not there when I was making it, they showed up after i snapped the shot.
:deadimage
EDIT: I realize now it helps to look at the pics I upload. These were incorrect shots, the second one is the new frame.
so, now that I messed that part up....
-
Did you actually build those from scratch or did you manipulate them until they are as we see them now? Because when I first built the Mithra, WAAAYYYYY back then, it never had those issues...
-edit-
I'm also noticing the original textures are still present? If I'm not too mistaken.
-
those aren't textures, its a blank model.
EDIT: Here's a pic of the newer frame piece
(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/laguardia528/aliraWP.jpg)
-
newer frame pics. these are the ones I intended to be showcased in the first post.

ADD has taken over for a while. completely scrapped everything i had to this point, it was turning out worse than the original.
new saucer frame pic:
edit: Just realized, it looks like the millenium falcon........
-
haha, yeah it kinda does. Looks good so far.
-
another update. added siding and a second face to the saucer. beginning to build the platform and the bridge modules.
-
slow down, spend some more time smoothing out the edges until theyre nice and clean. im sure everyone in the community would prefer quality over a sooner release date, and its a good learning experience
-
spent 2 hours last night making sure there were no jagged areas, and was defeated by jpeg compression. :(
(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/laguardia528/saucer5.jpg)
the actual model is smoother than that.
-
What program are you using to save your jpegs? Don't use MSPaint, what ever you do. Use photoshop, or freebies like GIMP or Paint.net, then you can choose the amount of jpeg compression.
-
can you change the default screenshot taker on milkshape?
-
another update. yes i realize there are some (several) smooting errors n the newer pieces, but i threw this together in 20 min. and will fix them when i get back from vegas next week.
-
UPDATE: Finished the platform on the saucer dorsal seciton, and added a makeshift deflector for looks. also have begun mapping positions for phaser arrays.

-
Starting to shape up, hope you come back from vegas with money left :)
-
UPDATE: Back from Vegas with only losing $560
added naccels and fixed some mesh errors. the deflector is going, no question, but its there for reference till i make a better one.

-
adding the primary rollbar, haven't welded yet, as im going to watch some fireworks. :hurr
(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/laguardia528/sn5.jpg)
-
Looks good... keep going
-
Keep her comin'!

Before leaving to raft the Snake River, I thought i would leave with what little i have updated on this project.

-
Not too bad, I like how this is shaping up.
-
i think the saucer should be a little thicker
-
I agree, very nice progress dude. :] And yeah, the saucer could be a bit thicker, imo. :]
-
Thickening the saucer will be my next step then. :D
However, i cant decide between an Akira style deflector or a......different one.
-
simple. try an akira style and then try something different, and then pick your fav :)
-
decided against an akira style deflector, it makes it look like a pelican.
thickened the saucer and added the rear facing firing pod.

Added the deflector dish and housing, which is the final "big" piece.

this project has shaped up very nicely, congratulations.
me likey ;)
I can still remember your first steps, keep it up.
have a cookie

Been a while since I actually worked on this, but decided to start from scratch. New saucer pictures. Haven't smoothed everything out yet, but the big parts are modeled on.
