Title: TOS Oberth WIP
Post by: Phoenix Bondi on June 04, 2008, 06:46:50 PM
ok guys, before any of u kick this design or beat me with a wooden stick i would like to explain a few things

Firstly, i have only done 3 mesh's from scratch before

1-my Romulan bop for legacy
2-my Romulan Battle bird for BC/Legacy
3-TMP Oberth for legacy (only since u got a really good one on bc already) *this is my first ever Federation mesh*

ok this is my take on the TOS oberth, i know it didnt exsist ....or did it, since we only saw the Constitution class in tos and alot of people have made tos ship's i thought i would give my go at it, since i was making a tmp oberth anyway.

so here she is, pls give honest opinion's im still a complete noob at modeling so pls dont be too harsh,

many thanks
Phoenix!!

Really good work!

The only critique that I can give is that the connecting section for the saucer and nacelles looks too much like the TMP era. Simple it up a bit (I don't know... more "TOSish".

You've got a winner here.

First off, the second stage intercoolers are too long, and TOS ships have no structures that resemble impulse crystals, so nuke'em. Try to make the ship simpler, with less detailing than the TMP one.

In layman's terms, make the fins shorter lengthwise and nix the twin domes in the middle of the saucer. :P

Looks good to me as a start, but agreed that it should be simpler

IMO, the deflector looks like it could be beefed up. Not exactly a circle, more like an octagon or decagon, something with more sides.

Ok... you asked for honesty,

so the smoothing is not correct, but the idea is sound, before you can really ask for an opinion of modelling quality though you need to post an image of the mesh..   then you can get some serious feedback

good luck with your project, its a good start.

Maybe he can't see them, tho a few perspective shots could do. And yes, you need to work on your smoothing, the saucer in particular, and I doubt that it would have a simmilar shape to the TMP ones, atleast not a smooth one (just think of the difference between the TOS and TMP Connies).

sorry markyd...i just cant do that  :arms: it's rude to go out in public naked :D

Adonis, i've completely changed the back and saucer, gave it a small connie saucer now, i'll upload some more pics soon, *with this saucer there isn't a smoothing issue :P*

ok gave up on last design, i decided to change quite a bit, so here she is, i'd need permission to use the saucer textures in bc, but i'm aload for legacy, so i might end up doing them all my self soon anyway

IMO you should scale the nacelles down to about 80% of their current

At least 80% of current. Those nacelles look way waaay oversized compared to the saucer.

Yeah, the current design just feels, awkward. Too much yellow, TOS ships were quite bland.

Uhm...sorry if I barge in with this way of thinking this through, but how the interior would be set up in this ship? You need to get that into the equation too...

A valid question I believe. From the old pics posted, there's no direct link between the "saucer" and "stardrive" sections of the ship, other than through the pylons. Not sure the turbolifts would go on a slant through the pylons to get from the upper decks to the lower decks :P

You know, it looks like another generic Connie kitbash now. The other design was more unique.
