I really... REALLY like the look of the saucer section of this ship!

I hope someone does that ship, cause it's unique and oddly sexy at the same time.

Well truth is, I hope someone does all the ships from it soon as it's released :P
-
*shudders*  No need for the enemy to shoot at the ship.  It's already got holes.

= less casualties ;) [although... does BC count 'holes' AS 'gaps' in the ship? - ie. if a phaser fired through it, will the ship be "damaged" or travel straight through? But of course if this wasn't BC we're talking about, but if it was the show itself...]
-
I think it matters how it's modelled.

-
That is a very ugly design.

-
the first developer that was working on ST:O bit to far and got themselves into some copyright trouble (AFAIK), so i can understand why Cryptic is making sure not to make that same mistake by creating more "unique and out-there" designs. thumbs up for the creativity

eh I don't remember that ever happening... THEY HAD many of the designers of the trek ships on their team....
-
yeah they had the full backing of CBS Paramount, what I had heard was they had a disagreement over the release date.  it had nothing to do with a copyright

No. A ship has already been made that has holes in the saucer, thoug i don't remember the name... It's there.

 No, ST: Online.

Certainly a more sensible thread for a first time thread poster if you don't mind me saying.
-
But a ship with holes in the saucer section also exists for BC.. and when i tried it you could fire throug the "holes" without damageing the ship:

While interesting, the design seems illogical to me. You do'nt see planes with holes in them, lol.

-
well I tried doing this ship and it blew up in my face.

Well, planes in an atmosphere needs to have a certain shape to be aerodynamic.
Spaceships don't need that. They can be all kinds of wacky shapes, like a cube or sphere. :P
-
Federation Ships are Aerodynamic incase they have to enter the planets atmosphere in case of a Emergency for landing, etc etc.

My mistake. Perpetual DID encounter legal trouble, but it was in no way related to ST:O. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_Online#Previous_development_version

Sure ya do.  They just don't fly ever again.
-
that ship looks better in its default configuration, the saucer is a custom one you can choose to have, the original is larger and has a bridge on the top

-
Federation Ships are Aerodynamic incase they have to enter the planets atmosphere in case of a Emergency for landing, etc etc.
However, not all Federation ships are designed for atmospheric flight. Such as the Defiant Class.
-
I like it... it looks like something atolm would come up with  8)

If the Defiant Class ship had some problems, I'm sure they'd fine someway to land it lol. Though most are made that way, like the Connie had saucer separation for emergency landings.
-
This is certainly one of the more odd designs... any more views of this thing?

-
@Aeries: There arent really any more views of anything unfortunately. AFAIK nothing ingame has been seen outside of the released trailer. correct me if im wrong

 @kaden: proof please?

No, they design isn't for Planetside operations or atmospheric flight. It just looks cool. The thing about Trek is they have these wonderful devices called Inertial Dampeners and such, which allow the ship to travel through the atmosphere regardless of design. Let's say the Excal had enough of these scattered around the ship, if it had enough power backing them, it itself could go into the atmosphere.

so far the thread has gone two pages and there has been no mention of anyone actually planning on picking up this project...  and i personally havent seen or heard anything about anyone ever mentioning any WIPs or anything remotely close to it, about this ship, in the BC-realm anywhere as yet...

i think the thread's purpose has been served at this point...  unless someone is planning on doing it, i would like to ask that the thread please be placed on "pause" until someone steps up and says they'll be taking on the project, and then the thread can go from there (or they can just make their own thread about it or whatever)...

if anyone would like to continue with other discussions begun so far in this thread, please post a new thread in whichever forum it would best apply to continue on...  but at this point, for this specific thread, the question was asking if "anyone is doing this ship?", the answer is "so far, no"...  in all honesty, everything other than that really is a bit offtopic to the point of the thread, which could then start drifting in whatever many different directions and then would really lose it's point; especially for this forum which is about current modding projects for BC...

or, this thread could be moved into a different forum - if you guys would like, just let me know and i'll be happy to move it to BC General for the time being...

 thx :)

I have a realevant question to ask before that happens. Where can one find reference material for all the STO vessels? I know of atleast one other feddie being amde by a CGI'er, so is there a one stop shop visual shiplist for the game?

-
I'll see what I can find Starforce, not promising anything though.

Found the artwork for a ship, i'll be updating this with links as I go along.

That looks like a Galaxy Evo, and looks really ugly lol

-
				looks really ugly

Definitely quoted for truth... I strongly dislike it. I could see it working in more of an akira-esque manner, but this? Not so much, I'm afraid... :(
-
				first it was ugly.
then it was an ugly terran ship.
then it became a really ugly federation ship.

thats what i call development of a ship.
 duh!
-
That ship looks something out of a Sci-Fi movie, not one of the good ones either, one of the crappy ones with the weird dull looking ships lol.

so is anyone actually gonna step up and take on this project for BC?
last chance to say so now for this thread to remain in this forum as it is...

I like the overall look of the ST:Online Ships, but some of them don't look very Star Trekky.
