Title: Springfield Class Retexture/Rebash
Post by: Kirk on October 07, 2008, 04:41:25 PM
Because I think I'll get more input and C&C here than in the KM:R dev forums, I'm going to post this WIP here as well as there. Basically I'm retexturing the old Springfield class and also partially remapping her. Her is what she looks like right now with some very basic textures on her. Any comments and criticism will be helpful. (However, telling me that the mesh is a mess won't help, I know that, I just can't fix it.)

Yes indeed, I've already fixed some mapping issues. I'll upload some new pictures soon.

I've always liked this ship.

Keep it going! It'll be nice to get a fresh new coat of paint on her.

Some new renders. Also, the last picture shows a weird mapping issue I'm having. The "V" in "Chekov" is getting flipped.

hmmmm, good, but where can we launch shuttles [it just looks like it should have shuttles]

There's a shuttle bay below that pod, just above the aft torpedo launcher.

What's with the yellow thing on the back of the pod? Is that supposed to be an engine?
Title: Re: Springfield Class Retexture
Post by: Kirk on October 07, 2008, 08:31:18 PM
Yes, I believe it is supposed to be the main impulse engine.

It looks like your problem with Chekov is it needs to be rotated 180 and flipped I think virticle.  If that doesn't work, try horizontal :).

Springfields my favorite TNG Class Ship, I hope someone someday models her with the pod on the underside.

I'd love to remodel/kitbash her, but I lack the skills.

Hey Kirk, are you going to pretty up the nacelles a bit?

Texture wise, of course.

i never did like those nacelles in all honesty...  slap on some galaxy-type nacelles and id like the ship a whole lot more lol  ok it's completely uncanon, i know - i just think it would look nicer... :P (it would almost look like a sister ship to the New Orleans, id imagine...)

Ambassador nacelles would look just a nice. But those resemble choco-pops.

We're COO-COO for COCOA POPS!

I must agree, though. Slap on some Galaxy nacelles for the ole' girl and she's set. I don't imagine it'd be that hard... even for an amateur modeler, I think it'd be fairly easy when you know where the tools are and what some of them do.

How about I do both? A canon and non-canon, but the canon will probably get done first.

Canon should ALWAYS go first. ;) Great work so far, as usual. :S

I don't think we should throw the C word around here since it was never really seen on screen :P. Well, as a pile of debris but that doesn't really count!

nice!!  see - thats what im talking about!
how does the deflector look on that ship?  honestly, the nacelles were the only reason ive never bothered to include it in any of my installs...  but if a version with nacelles like that were out there, then i definitely would include it in my ships list :)
Title: Re: Springfield Class Retexture
Post by: Kirk on October 08, 2008, 11:04:18 AM
There is no deflector on the ship without the pod, just a ton of mesh errors.

no deflector?  hmm...  i guess i never really took notice to this ship before lol

Use as much of the Korolev as you can if Glenn lets you. The Korolev is my absolute favorite ship! :D

Yeah, no deflector. The secondary hull blends with the saucer. I wonder why LC never did a Springfield for his Wolf 359 pack.

How about I do both? A canon and non-canon, but the canon will probably get done first.

Doing both sounds great.

IMO, canon (or what is considered "quasi-canon") first. As you already stated.

Non-canon (Galaxy nacelles) 2nd.

I wouldn't mind seeing more ships (including this one) with Ambassador-style nacelles. The Springfield Class while it has some similarities with the Galaxy, Nebula and Freedom classes, I believe it was constructed pre-TNG and should logically have an older design. But that's just my opinion of course.

Its missing from most models cause a standard Springfield doesn't have any pods. ;)

Sometimes it carries a SWAC pod similar to the neb's and sometimes it carries an engineering hull pod.

Some progress. There are some holes in the mesh, but I am trying to figure out how to fill them in.

He did.  He just never textured/released it.  There was a thread on BCU about it, but I see that those threads are most likely all gone now.

Good luck on the mesh though, A decent Springfield is long overdue.

Pity. I love LC's work.

I vote Galaxy. IMO, Ambasador nacelles are fugly. They're just glowy boxes. The Galaxy's have a dynamic to them.

So far, looking good.

great job.  cookie for turning something that I wouldn't give a second thought to installing into something I will consider blowing up, maybe even playing as if its a good HP (I think we can trust that it will be)

Be sure to throw in Venture nacelles with the phasers on them. The ship could use an update to deal with dominion threats.

Wait a second. I thought that the Springfield uses Nacelles similar to the ones the Cheyenne class has.

I can't wait for the Springfield pack though with the Galaxy Class nacelles, it's a small ship and I feel the Nacelles should be more streamlined.
