Hey all. I just received a new 24" wide monitor for Christmas and tried to play BC but it failed to boot. So I read here that to solve this I could edit the options.cfg file or delete it to solve the problem. In doing so, I got it to work at 1280x1024 res but my mutator menu completely vanished (when I deleted the options). Next, I tried editing the options to start the game in 1280x1024 res, which resulted in the .exe encountering an error.
I was wondering if anyone has run into this (mleo...) :P or knows how to do it without disturbing the files?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bigkap
Edit: Ok so turns out my Master switch on the UMM was not turned on. The game runs at 1280x1024 however the picture is stretched. I have a mutator called broad tv/picture view but it does not seem to solve this issue active or not.
-
The Broad Picture TV mutator is part of an old mod of mine. It only adds the cutscene bars.
I'm afraid your best bet right now is to run in Windowed mode.
-
Is there a mod for that? I'm not sure how to go into window mode.
-
You start in -TestMode (you should always do that anyway) and then go to the Graphics options.
-
Thanks for your fast response mLeo. I'll give it a go.
Edit: Works now :D Thanks again!
-
what is the max resolution you can get, windowed and fullscreen? and what is your gfx card? if you dont mind my asking? i am just curious...
-
Well now with the new monitor I can get 1280x1024 max windowed and full screen, as my new monitor doesn't support 1600x1200 (which is what I'm used to). My GFX card is a nVidia 7600 GT superclocked AGP8X 512mb (Not directly from nVidia, but another company who's name escapes me atm).
-
im surprised your monitor wouldnt support 1600x1200... i wonder why that is?
-
@Jimmy, it could be a simple 15 inch crt monitor. ;)
@Bigkap, what is your normal resolution? And is it possible that you have a widescreen (not 4:3) monitor?
-
Must be because it's not as "tall" as my other one ( a 20.5" LCD)
It's a 24" full HD widescreen. My native res is 1920X1080. It will do 1600X900 and 1680X1050. I think this is also the "first" monitor to do 16:9 in full HD.
-
Then the reason for the stretched-ness is because the resolution you managed to do is a 4:3 resolution.
From experience, BC won't ever "support" 1600x1200 in windowed mode.
-
The resolution on my laptop is also 1920x1080, so what I did was edit the CFG file to get a resolution of 1600x1024. As long as the two numbers are both supported by BC, it's fine.

not necessarily... i cannot get 1600x1200 to work for me, even after editing the CFG as well as many other scripts...
-
Yes but is 1600x1200 supported by your monitor? 1600 across, and 1200 high? I thought (looking at Desktop Pics thread, hehe) that your Desktop had a vertical resolution of 900.
-
Are you running it in windowed mode? The 1600x1024 res I mean?
Edit: I tried to do as Chris suggested, but every time I edit the CFG file and put it back in the folder the .exe fails to load the game. I am boggled...
-
Did you edit with notepad?
Also, Windowed mode can't do any resolutions that aren't stock ones.
-
Yes edited in notepad, saved then when I try to hit the .exe it fails to load the game. Every time I edit the file and save it it disables the executable. I fear the only way is to delete it and run at 1280.
This is what I'm editing:
[Graphics Options]
Texture Detail|2
Number of Lights|8
MipMaps|0
Display Depth|32
Display Height|1024
Visible Damage|3
LOD Skip|0
Display Device=Direct3D T&L HAL on NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
Display Width|1600
Fullscreen Mode|1
Effect Detail|3

Try editing the CFG File instead in a different Program such as Notepad++ or Notepad2. It makes all the difference in the world, trust me.
-
A couple of "names" are in unicode, and contain "null" characters, Notepad can't properly handle them.
-
OK, I edited it in wordpad and it worked fine up until the Nano load screen just before the bridge comes on. Then I got some sort of error report saying that the syntax is invalid and caused an error and then it just stalls at that load screen.
Could they have made a more sensitive game lol?

(sorry veering offtopic for a sec) but ya, my resolution normally is 1400x900; however i do have options for higher resolutions, but i just dont like the way they look...
ah well... i was just curious as to why BigKap couldnt access 1600x1200 res for BC; i would have assumed a larger monitor than mine would be able to...

what did the error say about the syntax exactly?
-
It says
Syntax Error: invalid syntax
Also, I changed the res to 1600x1024 but i guess as default it says my res is at 1600x1200 in the main screen. Not sure if it matters or not, but at that res I also can't get to the mutators scroll to turn the rest of them on because the bottom of the screen is cut off there.
-
Could you attach your options.cfg?
-
Here you go thanks again for your help guys.

can you post a pic? most likely installing UMM will fix that, if you dont have it installed or dont have a KM install...
-
Here it is in word:
-
Try this:
You may want to back your previous Options.CFG file up, just in case.
-
Ok tried that, same thing unfortunately. That same syntax error occurs. Here is another word doc to show you:
-
Well, we can fix that one.
Attach scripts/Custom/Carriers/Picard.py
Also, if you do Print Screen, then you can also paste in Paint.
And if you press Alt+PrintScreen you will only get the currently focused window.
-
Here you are sir:
-
It should like this one a bit better. ;)
-
I copied the file over but now I have a different error with the Suvqeh:
-
Attach the file scripts/Custom/Carriers/Suvqeh.py
-
As requested:
-
Try this.
-
Thanks! I can get ingame now. I think I'm going to have to view it at 1280 though, as the bottom scrolls are all cut off:
-
I'm afraid It won't be pretty trying to fix that. :(
-
No worries. If I have to, I'll lug in my old crt. It's chunky, but it gets the job done  Thanks again for all your efforts fellas!
