So.. I figured I'd start modelling one.
-
Probably the best idea this year.
-
Definately, we need a new Type 6. It's got to be one of the only ships where the Current one is still stock.
-
If I remember right a project for all the shuttles was started a while ago, but I assume RL sucked it into limbo. There's always the CGI Voyager Type-6... Quite possibly my favourite craft in BC just because of how tiny it makes you feel sized against the Excal. ;) That image there is the result of 10 minutes work, so.. a minute per 100 poly's!
Definitely going to push what I can of it, though. And if I don't get lazy, an interior! Worked for that Type-11...
-
Probably the best idea this year.

Looks great Prime ;)
-
Thanks mate! Still working on it right now, but Gordon Ramsay keeps distracting me with loud noises so...
-
The CGI shuttle is a type 8. The Cochrane is a type 9, the Chaffee (the Defiants shuttle) a type 10 and a type 11 a Sovie shuttle. Then theres the bobble shuttles used a lot in TNG (Picard calls it "a perfectly good shuttlecraft") which are type 7's and this lovely shuttle a type 5. And I think the Onizuka is a type 6.
-
...Just checked the readme... So it is... Huh.
-
I thnik the warpies might need to stick out a teeny bit more.
-
Just realised I missed the way the aft section kind of pops out. But yeah, maybe they could spread just a wee bit.
-
She's almost finished already. Geez.
-
Nice! You gonna indent the windows? Also, should the front of the nacelles be that flat? Are they not more rounded?
-
Yeah, I'm gonna handle the windows with modelled in bumps, but other than that I think the rest is best textured (Not to mention easier on me. :P) The nacelles do stub off, but if you look close at the reference (Even if it is terrible) They do just like of cut off.
-
Side Windows done. Wouldn't be a bad time for bad critique. :arms:

It needs a front window :arms: :P
-
Depends who's flying it. I'm currently working on that right now.
-
There we go. She's done.
-
High rez render for proper critiquing please.
-
Hows that?
EDIT: Saw a problem on the back. Fixing it.
-
Looks great! dont suppose you want to do a type 8 & 9 aswell do ya so we can use it in the DQP :P

 I'd be honoured.
-
Well, from the 1st angle, I can see nothing wrong with it. As always, I'm a smoothing nut and would love to see perfectly smooth models, but that's a little unrealistic for games. :P
-
Same. Hmm... I have an idea for an awesome variant... What would be the TNG equivalent of spinners?
-
 I'd be honoured.
hehe great :D Cookie ;)
Dont need them right now, do them in your own time. DQP has months to go yet before finishing lol
thanks

Animated bussards?

Neon lights in the windows and underneath? Huge exhaust? Really chav it up!
-
Oh god, what have I started?! Maybe the navigational thrusters could be preset to simulate Hydraulics?
Anyway, this is as far as I can go with the shuttle. Should I send it to BCF?
-
very nice work Prime.
-
At least have a go at texturing it! Or blackmail Jb to do it :P
-
Thanks DJ. And for the record she stands at 3016 polys! May actually be able to cut off a few, even if it doesn't need it.
Limey, Don't make me dig up the last texturing effort. I just don't have the knack. Probably would help if I bought a Wacom though... Very tempted to start doing the interior, but I think I've almost burned out my modelling mana for the moment.
EDIT: 500 polys gone just like that.
-
interior sounds good :D

-
It really does, I'm almost licking my lips thinking about it, buuuut, it is listed somewhere on the ever-busy 3rd-era's bridgelist. I dunno. Just noticed the front window was waaaaay off center. Nobody told me?! :P
-
No i mean an interior like admiral ames' type 11 :P
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/potd/110468
haha didnt notice about the window:P
~Jb06
-
I had thought about that, and specifically that Type-11, but Type-6's always seem to have the tinted windows... May just be because of all the UV radiation in space. Still, could always be done.
-
Or because the production crew couldn't be arsed trying to put a crew and interior in there :P
-
I don't actually think 3rd era is working on any bridges at all right now. They are all on Excal now.
-
We-eelll.. It's nice to have canon excuses for budget cutbacks.
Just got ahold of the Type-8 and Type-9 stuff. The 9 looks like it'll be a fun challenge. :D
And yeah, I know about the bridges bit. I unfortunately don't have the time to learn all the bits to bridge modding, so I figure it'd be best left to the experts or those with time to try.
-
I hate to ruin your fun Prim but the front window needs to be in line with the side windows.
-
Knew it looked off for some reason. Cheers Dale, easily fixed. :P
-
There!
-
looks great :D
-
how come it looks squished? resolution?
-
Something looks wrong. Maybe she's too tall? I dunno. :?
-
:? Maybe I'll do another render then.. in the viewer she looks right.
Comparing it to schematics, it seems fine, but I can shrink it if that's preferred.
-
The window looks too big now :? I think it was the right size before, just needed moving down.
-
Easily fixed, again. :P
-
Aw, she's so diddy and cute!
-
2 words Klingon, Cardiassian
-
Decent reference images and it can be done.
-
I have come to the conclusion, that there aren't enough decent reference images of the Type-6 interior without scouring TNG screencaps... That's alot of episodes to scour...
-
ask and ye shall receive
I did some of the scouring for you:

I'll admit there aren't very many good angles, probably because of the size of the set.? I'm sure there are more around, but these were the easiest to find from memory of what episodes used the set.? the last link BTW is from AGT in the scene where Yar takes picard to the Enterprise in the shuttle.? those were probably the best shots I could find of the cockpit.
also I found that the playmates toys were actually surprisingly accurate in this area, aside from a missing chair it's a fair representation, I can post some shots of my old shuttle if it would help.

You sir, are now my favourite person. :arms: Have a cookie for your efforts!
