Title: System Specs!
Post by: Morgan on April 25, 2009, 02:08:46 AM
I've seen a thread like this before but it seems to have been shot in the forum purging a few months back. So I figured maybe it's time for a revival. Let's see what everyone is running under the hood. Post pics of your system specs.

GRRRR I want it to be a 5.9.... stupid memory.

I get two diff readings for GFX crap... so I chose the one from the Nvidia control panel.

Maybe the specs on your RAM are lower. I have half the RAM but .1 higher :P

The channels setup correctly and enabled in the BIOS I assume?
Title: Re: System Specs!
Post by: Morgan on April 25, 2009, 06:32:06 PM
If I remember correctly you'll get a better score on RAM if your RAM has a higher clock speed (example 2GB of 400MHz DDR RAM would score higher than 2GB of 333MHz DDR RAM). Hope that makes sense.

Here's my little monster :
GigaByte S-Series EP43-DS3l mainboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 2x 3.0 Ghz
4 GB DDR2 800 Mhz RAM Kingstone
Palit NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Sonic 1 GB DDR3
Seagate 1 TB HDD Sata-II
HP w1907v wide-screen monitor (still hunting for same HP but 24' with HDMI)

Oh and I'm running on Windows 7, It's a lot better than Vista (runs smoother on games like Crysis, Fallout 3 etc.)

also dunno why but few months ago when whole install was clean the index on hard drive was 6.2 and so whole index gone up to 6.2 but now it's 6.0 ...

As it turns out, my system doesn't rank nearly as high as most of yours... *wimper wimper* But here it is...

Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 @ 2.0Ghz,
Asus P5GC-MX/1333,
ATI Radeon HD4670 @ 1Gb DDR3,
4Gb DDR2-667 [need a new mobo to recognize it all properly...]
1Tb SATA Seagate Barracuda HD,
250Gb PATA Samsung HD [need a new SATA Drive to replace this soon...]
LG 24x Lightscribe DVD-RW

Edit: Yes, I'm running a REALLY CRAP CRT monitor right now... it's all I've got to work with. :( I really need an LCD display pretty bad...

Edit 2: Hey El, is that 9600 GT integrated or something!? o.o; Why two cards like that...?

Yeah I was about to post my new beast of a CPU coming, because everything will be the same except CPU and possibly the ram..just ordered a Phenom 2 x4 3.2ghz socket AM3 black edition ... its going to pwn everything :-)

but going to wait until I get it working since I was an idiot and didnt check the CPU support list for my motherboard first..since it supports socket AM3...but not the one I got, so now I have to use an unofficial beta bios to get it working.

Anyway stay tuned for a blow your pants off update! :-)

2x 60gig OCZ Agility Series SSD's
Patriot PCXL25SR Convoy XL RAID Enclosure(for the 2 60gig SSD's) <--very cool device watch the video in this link: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4837634&csid=_25
1 OCZ CORE Series 30gig SSD
1 320gig Western Digital Caviar
1 DVD Rom/Burner Multidrive
850Watt Antec Modular power supply

Title: Re: System Specs!

Im almost done!... waiting on the second SSD.. but I have a pic for ya...ill edit this one later to add the rest after I re-install Windows7(if it lets me..).

http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn134/BES12000/DSC00863.jpg

I didnt notice that ALL the damn SATA ports will turn into raid when I turn raid on in the bios for the SSD's ...so I had to use the 1 non-raid port for a 320gig drive instead of the 70gig raptor I wanted for the OS...
Title: Re: System Specs!
Post by: BES on September 10, 2009, 04:18:09 PM
WOOT! ...now it hauls some butt! ...when installing things there is NO LOAD BAR!..now thats fast!

Now since I couldnt use a raptor as my OS drive the index for the drive is still low..I would rather use my RAID SSD's for games...

No one's posted here since September...but that isn't stopping me.

mwahahaha

Since then, in the past month I've got a HD4670 and an E7500, was going to get an E8400 but couldn't. Overclocked it, but not that much because of crashes and for some reason...my display drivers crashing.

don't let the beta tag fool you... it is extremely accurate (I've tested it) and comes with tones of useful information...
even better, this program is by the minds who made ccleaner and defraggler.

Thanks Neb. Adjusted the sensitivity from the wheel. Now everything is normal.
Lionis, its normal to say that you have that much video memory. Its shared with the RAM and with the Video RAM.

Guess doing the Youtube video about Speccy was a good idea. XD

Seems to be more accurate for reading temps than SpeedFan for one, SpeedFan's off by 4C while Speccy is the same as the BIOS for me.

I need something better like Nebula's beast of a card, right now for my headset/mic when doing Youtube vids/VOIP I use my onboard C-media AC97 and for my 5.1 speakers a Trust 5.1 Sound card (mic quality's better through onboard than my sound card O.o).

I'll probably have to say goodbye to mine sooner than you, HD4670 is the best card available for AGP but that tech's a relic...think I'll have to build a new one when my specs are well and truely past it's expiration date and when DX12 comes out (probably around 2011-2012). XD

We will soon be having 64Gb in our mobile phones, and my keychain USB stick is 32Gb.

128Gb* for $300 (?190) is a bit better but:

2 x 1TB WD (5 year warranty) 7200rpm, 32MB Cache = (2 x ?70) ?140
Result: An 1TB RAID 1 array. And you have ?50 left over for candy. ($80)

*My Datas are about 411Gb.

I can get to 6.0, 6.1. AMD Fusion can boost up the HDD. If the HDD was SATA3 I would get 7.3 :eek My CPU and RAM are getting 7.3. Strange, even when I clock down the RAM from 1100 to 800. In the both casses is getting 7.3 :wtf Theres only 200-300MB/s difference but now I am on 1100mhz :D My GFX is reaching 7.5 on 750Mhz core and 900Mhz memory. When I clock her on 790Mhz core and 1100Mhz memory, she is getting 7.6 :) Not much difference but in Crysis there are 4-5fps more. Still I am afraid to clock my Phenom 940 to 3.8Ghz. With my case, which is not big enough for that kind of "power" my CPU on idle is getting 49C :eek

oh yeah, if you don't want to spend hours looking for drivers, I recommend drvermax. it checks out what your comp has, then looks updates from the web, then you dl them and let it install them, easy as that.

My score is annoying since It was 7.9 everything last year..lol

And a HD5870 video card should be 7.9 but its not..

I only have one physical Hard Disk drive im using for the primary, if we could switch that before the test ..my score would be higher since the rest of the computer uses SSD's on a RAID controller.

There's both free and pay-for-all-bells-and-whistles-option. Free one is limited to 2 driver updates per 24h, and lacks automatic updates etc if I understood correctly. Give it a try, I did updater my ethernet drivers with it and by golly, there was 75% boost in dl speed!  :eek

And in the graphics department I have Radeon 4870 with 1Gb ram if my memory serves me correctly. I've been updating the drivers too to latest versions which have lsightly hitched up my scores in that windows windows thingie.

No. Despite the name, they have absolutely nothing in common. Packard Bell pulled out of the American market in 2000. Presumably because of lackluster sales. They're owned by Acer though I think.

Selling some old stuff + moneys = 80Gb Intel Gen 2 SSD. :dance

My storage stands as such then:

1x 80Gb SSD = Boot drive/Program drive/Game drive
2x1TB (Raid 1, thus 2x1=1Tb) HDs, for Movies, Music, Pictures, Books, Software .isos etc

The result is that programs like Photoshop etc, start fast as hell (as do boots), while all the media files still have plenty of space.
The worse data-intensive operation the "Library" does, is play a 1080p movie, and since it can do it no point for it to be faster.

I thus announce this system perfect & complete.

Title: Re: System Specs!
Post by: Senator on April 02, 2010, 11:16:05 AM
My current case, is the Lian Li PC-A05N, and I am an extremely happy camper with it.

In case you are wondering, what you are looking at here. The PSU, is mounted on the front under the hard disks. This means that the entire case is exactly as tall as an ATX motherboard.
The end result, is that I get to fit my entire system in it (with this (http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&q=megahalems&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi) cooler and a 5870) in a tower that is actually small enough to transport in a small suitcase.

Here's how it actually compares with the antec 902:

Antec 902: 49.3cm (H) x 21.8cm (W) x 47.2cm (D) 11.5 kg
PC-A05N: 38cm (H) x 21cm (W) x  x 49cm (D) 4kg
And the Lian Li actually seems to be cheaper...

The graphics card blows air at the rear, and the motherboard is upside down, sucks air from the rear and (along with the PSU) blows it from the front, from those holes on the side. So it's semi-reversed airflow or something, but I rather like it and seems to be working well. Plus I can warm my hands on the hot air coming out from the front side.

Frigging hell that must have been a b*stard to fit everything in there..
How's your cable routing? lol

EDIT

Just read the rest of the article..
I'm actually rather impressed. What was the build quality like?

EDIT 2

Thinking about it, wouldn't sending the heat out the front impact on the reliability of the hard drives?
And that is one mahooosive cooler you have there!!
Title: Re: System Specs!
Post by: Senator on April 02, 2010, 04:24:31 PM
And yet, everything fits, without having to bend anything.

I quite like the build quality.

You can open the side panel without using tools. Similarly, the DVDRWs and HDs slot in tooless. The second are mounted on some rubber thingies, presumably in order to be more silent.
Aluminium in/out you can also get an aluminium bezel/door thingy to place in front of your optical drive, as to not spoil ze looks.
It also has a small trapdoor on the top, with two USB ports and a Microphone & Headphone jack. More here (http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=289&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=63&g=d).

Not sure, stopped updating that motherboard since a new BIOS update wont change anything for the way its currently set up, you might have to roll back to a previous BIOS..

You are just fishing for compliments aren't you? :P

At first I was: ZOMGWTF, a 6 core CPU, this is going to hurt.
But then I was: Mmm. Ok?

According to this: PCmark (http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/2799/72686964.png), Cinebench (http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/9093/45747241.png)
My little i7 920 remains faster than any stock CPU that doesn't cost a thousand pounds. *cough980cough*
My primary interest is also rendering, which is where I expected any 6 core CPU to run circles around, however Cinebench also rendered faster???

And that's with the 4Ghz overcloak. I know that the computer is perfectly stable at 4.2 as well but I just happen to like round numbers.

Well my overclock is different because I had to lower some voltages and lower the FSB settings due to an overheating issue, im thinking my motherboard is defective, was reaching 127F(limit is 130F im told) on the northbridge at normal voltages and speeds, so if I wanna overclock it I have to lower the FSB and increase the CPU multiplier, but doing that also lowers the HT/NB speeds and ram speed, IF I could increase the FSB speed then im guessing the bench results would be higher..

I come to that conclusion about the motherboard being defective only because I know someone thats overclocking the living crap out of the same motherboard I have(2800NB clock/2500HT clock, and some ungodly 350ish FSB) but his motherboard NB is still steady at 113F...

I dont feel like taking the motherboard BACK OUT to take off the heat pipe heat sinks , apply thermal paste and put everything back on tighter, ill do it eventually..

Currently I have it back down to 3.5ghz, everything else the same, it still gets a 6.0ish Cinebench score, im also actually thinking about going back to a socket AM2+ motherboard that can run this same CPU with a BIOS update..

I cannot get it stable past this, wont work without a test failing... http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1185272

PICS!, I added a DIrt2 bench in the mix, everything maxed at 1680x1050 2x AA in-game, catalyst control panel 8x AA,8x AF, everything else maxed..

and F8G BIOS update doesn't work. F7 was even better because before you restart your PC second time, the system works, but in F8G the PC died. After that replacing the Phenom 940 with Athlon 6000+ to return the F6. Hehe, I have forgotten how slow are the dual-core CPUs :D Now im with F6 and with Phenom 940 showed like (AMD Processor model unknown) :D

I went with these final clock speeds with the above Phenom II X6 1090T system^^:
CPU - 3.45GHZ
HT/NB - 2432.5MHZ
RAM - 1351.2MHZ(8-8-8-24-31-1T)

I also settled with 8gigs ram total..

Got Unigine Heaven benchmark( http://unigine.com/download/ ) results with my 1090T system above:

I just did an "upgrade", where not a single spec changed!

Instead I went from this (http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=289&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=63) which I liked very much and is the best ATX case ever.
To this (http://www.lan-gear.com/microATX_classic.php) + a microATX motherboard.

CPU, GPU, RAM, HDs and the cooler were transferred as they were.

Result:
1 optical disk slot, except that I only have one anyway.
2 PCI-E and 1 PCI slots. But I only have 1 PCI-E card anyway.
Same Specs as before. Including the 4x4Ghz overclock, 6gb RAM and 5870.
Size: 288 x 217 x 370mm

Here's what I got In my new lappy that I got back In September of last year...

My Speccy Specs and Windows Score are posted below.

So far I have managed to run Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Half-Life 2, Counter Strike: Source, and Sins Of A Solar Empire at 1280X720 at 30fps according to fraps. Except Sins and CS: Source which runs at native 1440x900 at 30fps, the rest of the have to be played with certain things on or off. For example:

Mass Effect:
AA off
AAA off
Ultra-High Textures on
Particle Effects on Low

Fallout 3:
AA and AAA off
Textures on High
Tree and grass LOD off

These don't really matter for me considering the FPS I'm getting.

And as you can see I am running 2 hard drives In my laptop, A friend of mine had me take off a panel on the back one day and we discovered a second SATA connection! So I have 2 Segate drives at 200 and 80GB. Woot!

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Got a new computer for my birthday so I thought I'd show it off a bit.  Nothing too fancy but still pretty decent compared to my old one.

I just upgraded a bit myself, my old MB died, so I had to replace it, which meant I needed new RAM and a new processor.  it's not all that different from what I had though, I went from a 3.0 Ghz dual core pentium-D to a tri-core AMD 3.1 Ghz CPU, and I replaced my existing 2gb of DDR2 RAM with 4gb or DDR3 RAM, not much else changed, I kept the old GF8500 GT GPU and 300 GB internal HDD.

Time to resurrect an old thread! Since I got a new graphics card I thought I may as well...

To be honest, I was expecting my CPU to be my lowest rating; but HDD apparently is (I need to get a fan for it; it's running warm even at idle)

Just a question; does ANYONE with a Hard Disk (set as primary) have a rating for it above 5.9? Or is the only way to beat that, to get a Solid State Drive?

I'm only runing a 5.9 for my hard drive, and I got a TB.  Makes me wonder what the criteria for a 7.9 is...

Apparently even some of the fastest SSD's only make it into the high 6's...

looks like I was right...this thing needs a couple more fans in it.  my core it running 60 C right now.

looks like I can add a lot more mem, though.  it says there's 4 total ram slots!
