ok guys im doing alot of time and work into this, but here is my connie, this will NOT interfear with moon's but i will have all 3 types of the connie avalible at the end of it, anywho after all the trouble's i've had with the shuttle bay i finally have the main hull finished with a few minor tweek's still to be done
(http://www.chrisjonesgaming.net/phoenix/connie/connie.jpg)
-
very detailed...what's the polycount right now?
edit: and worth a cookie of course ;)
-
Seems you finally got her @r5e right. :D
cookie incoming!
-
1984 poly BUT I've got a lot of cleaning on it still to be done, so I'm quite happy with it. if I do need to lower it I can edit the sensor array and the shuttle bay I just can't belive how HARD it was when I finally clicked it took me like 5 Seconds lol. i will say thought i've not attached the sensor array or the shuttle bay yet due to the fact i have gone bit high with the detail on her lol
-
Ok so I'm just off to bed now, not feeling great at all, but here she is so far
(http://www.chrisjonesgaming.net/phoenix/connie/connie2.jpg)
when this ones done it'll be the cage veriant, but I'm doing everything in bits basically so i can kitbash it if I wanted to lol hope u lot like her
being honest about it my favorit part of my connie is the sensor dish and bit behind it lol opinons
-
I'm not sure about the Dish...something seems a bit off...Come to think about it, I think it's the size...I think it's slightly bigger in diameter on the Cage varient. Smack me if I'm wrong!
-
ok everyone here is the final update before welding it together and doing textures, she stand's at 8762polys before being put together so im looking at 8.5k when complete, i might add the bar's to the saucer in mesh not texture since i should have enough, anywho here u go guys
the observation area for the shuttle bay!!lol

just showing off the nacel detail
(http://www.chrisjonesgaming.net/phoenix/connie/connie6.jpg)
here is the impulse and aft torp launcher
(http://www.chrisjonesgaming.net/phoenix/connie/connie7.jpg)
LOOK YUK!!! aparently the bridge on the cage connie is bigger!!
here you can see i've increased the sensor array size
(http://www.chrisjonesgaming.net/phoenix/connie/connie9.jpg)
-
Looks good, but the bridge area seems to extrude too much
-
Looks like you've got the shape of the upper saucer, the impulse engine, and deflector housing down nicely!
As for the rest of it, it's good for a start, but if you're going for accuracy, you'll want to redo the deflector dish, bridge, underside of the saucer, and nacelle grills. I'd also add polys to the nacelle pylons to give the edges a more rounded appearance. Oh, and you forgot the three extrusions on the bottom of the nacelles, behind the bussard collectors.
I'd be happy to give you tips and reference images if you like. Just send me a message on WLM. Again, good start.
-
In my opinion, you'd wanna remove the rings on the underside of the saucer, due to reference pic from The Cage
(http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/en/images/6/63/USS_Enterprise%2C_The_Cage.jpg)
-
Ehhh, the ends of the nacelles seem a little bit off, and if you're doing The Cage version first, the deflector's too small. Also, I'd smooth up the bridge a little bit. Still a nice piece of work though.

That's coz its the CRAPPY cage connie mate, can show u pics if need be bro! but yer, YUK!!

humm, just watched the episode to cheak, yer they're there but mine's slightly too low, redo that bit me think's

any chance u can show me i've increased the size by 1/4 than that of the normal one so any help would be nice
-
UPDATE
ok bad news, I might have to lose some detail on her as she's hit 11k she still needs cleaning and welding together but I can't see that saving me 2k maybe 1k tops. but none the less this is a HUGE improvement on the last few pics I showed
The new Impulse area - as pointed out to me by erwtng so thanks very much
(http://www.chrisjonesgaming.net/phoenix/connie/connie10.jpg)
new nacelles more CAGE cannon now (more poly's but worth it)
increased the sensor dish some more, but might have to lose the in groves around the saucer-how do u guys feel about that? it'll run with them, maybe laggy for low-end PCs
(http://www.chrisjonesgaming.net/phoenix/connie/connie12.jpg)
-
very well done :D
-
If I may suggest, add more segments to the saucer to give it a smoother round appearance, and maybe chamfer the edges of the saucer rim also just ever so slightly.
-
Before you go for accuracy, you must first ask yourself if you want to go for accuracy based on the original tv version, or the newest DVD release version. The new version has more work put into the hull details (Like the "Bomb chute" on the underside of the engineering section). Though it's looking nice indeed!

any chance you can get me some pictures of what u mean?
-
This is what I mean. The models are more detailed and the textures are far different, though really, it's up to you whether you wish to go with the old model or the CGI Connie. There should be a boatload of images on memory-alpha.

HOLY FRACK ! that's amazing thats gotta be the best remastard pic ive seen, only just finished tos remastard season 1, in all honesty i dunno which one to do, i thought they're the same just BETTER QUALITY??? i've looked for pics of the cage connie every where to no avail, any help from anyone would be awsome!

I could cap a few images for you if you'd like, as I've been using the dvd's for my connie. ;)

Actually, the episode's been out for quite a while, they only just aired it recently. It was the last disc of the Season 3 remastered set.
Nice work on the Connie though. :)
-
You don't really need the remastered screens to make an accurate Cage variant of the Constitution. There are plenty of references out there. Here's a couple to help you out:

ok people i've started the long texture job, i used moons as reference since i couldn't find colour stuff as u can see there's less windows around the rim of the saucer and possibly a cargo bay???? dunno what it is but its there lol
well i'll blow my own trumpet here, but when i saw how this came out i was over the moon
(http://www.chrisjonesgaming.net/phoenix/connie/connie13.jpg)
the above texture was made using the basic colour of moons and then adding 3 layers of diffrent colour and shaded weathering - cool ha?!

Excellent work!
Look forward to this.

Looks good mate, weathering is a nice touch 8)

nice start on the textures!

ok guys she's 99% finished only got to do the anitena on the bussards, but for your enjoyment here as some beauty shot's i've taken

sorry if this is a few days too late, but your impulse engines are all wrong. you had them right before. I'm guessing that you used the old AMT model for references on that area? it should only have two vents.

This is the Cage Connie.... it had that many vents
EDIT: well it was the cage connie last time I checked...
-
This is such a beautifully done ship. If there was an emoticon for bowing, I'd use it.
-
indeed u have done the original connie model justice especially the weathering effect on the deflector dish stunning

It is, you can tell by the height of the bridge and the diameter of the deflector!
This is a good job you're doing though!!! Can't wait to see more!
-
ok cage connie's done and now in the mid's of transforming her into the mk2/3 but too much connie was doing my head in so after watching ds9 i decided to build somthing - but  ant i doing tos work ?? lol
Now to ds9 episode this is right, not sure about the remastard tos episode though?
hope u like it

Nice job on the hull textures, though your grid lines are a little too pronounced. But hey, you're not going for 100% accuracy. Your weathering job looks very nice.
I'm amazed at how quickly you modeled that K-7 station! Looks pretty good. One tip: The raised hull sections should be like steps constantly decreasing in height from a central plate, rather than one high, one low, one high, etc. But again, you're not going for 100% accuracy. ;)
-
ok this was a request by my team for some one to do AGES ago! lol so i've decided to have a crack at it, i will get it right when its finished (i hope)
You all know what this is! lol

ok not sure if anyone is intrested in this one.. still some more work to do on her but here she is
still some more tweeking needed before i texture the added bits, but even if no one else likes her...least i do lol

Very very nice. I like it. However, if I may, perhaps you should flip the warp nacelle upside down, so the thrusters on the aft end aren't upside down.

I like all of this stuff! :D

I agree with this. Also, I suggest that you keep the way the impulse engine looks but only change the colour of it.
Otherwise, awesome.

VERY NICE
it would be great if someone made TOS versions of all of the Trek XI ships

ok guys the net is being a bitch and i'm having such a hard time
even posting my bloody WIPS

Now onto my lovley Kelvin class :D
she's now finished and i'm more than happy with her (after a couple
of change's)
Front view, nothing much to show off except the new deck 2 & 3

here u can see the windows and stuff on the newly added section of
the hull

That is one flat Planet Killer. But much needed for BC! :D :D :D
-
Only thing I'd suggest is lowering the top bulge on the kelvin, looks way too cartoony like that IMO, otherwise nice.
-

Agreed, give the Kelvin the standard Connie bridge instead of the Cage version.
Very nice standard Connie. :D
-
The ships are exceptional. Truly exceptional. I've given you a choco cookie.
-
thanks for the comments guys. i'll change the bridge to the connie no problem, how would u lot recommend commencing with the planet killer she's really coursing me some problems???
-
What sort of problems?
-
getting the shape and stuff right i just can't get it to look quite right
-
Turn off smoothing for one thing, and try to find some plugin to randomise the locations of the vertices a little, give it that crinkled tin foil look.
-
Like your work, especially your U.S.S. Constellation. Keep it up.
-
This is looking like a really good set of ships.
I hope that they damage well (no vox.nif errors) because that seems to be a common problem with TOS and TMP connies.
Mike

Looking sharp mate 8)

just to show somthing else off, this will propbably get me into so much trouble no doubt but meh here u go

DO NOT, I mean absoLUTELY do NOT do a TOS Excelsior jeez :P... just kidding
Not a bad concept. not a bad one at all :)
Gentlemen...the great experiment!
-
TOS Excelsior
...
I love you
-
I remember a TOS Excelsior was attempted a few times, but never released. I hope this one gets released. It's beautifully done.
-
Looks great so far, though my nerdbrain strains to make sense of an older version of what was a completely new ship in STIII. I'll settle for artistic license, since that is a work of art.
Saucer looks a little too greebled for the TOS style, mind you.
-
Wow....an Excelsior TOS-ified. :P
-
All I can suggest is a new saucer and maybe shortening the back lip of the drive section, as neither fit the era. Perhaps take the connie saucer design into account, and enlarge the top bulge so that it reaches out to where the bulge does on the original excelsior saucer. The neck is what would be the trickiest to work, though might I suggest a small inspiration from the ENT era and using two connie necks, with a secondary deflector or torpedo pod lodged between them? The resulting look would be radical, but could work given that after the connie refit, the necks of ships changed just as radically.
Mesh looks great though.
-
Well thanks for the comments i tried using a twin connie neck and it really didnt look good at all :( i'm trying to think of somthing else at present but i wasnt sure how i could incorperate it all to work, but so far im happy, i've started to texture the saucer just to see how she would look and im quite happy so far, done some work on the main hull and added pylons instead of where the excel goes at a 90degree and then stright up i've gone for 45 and then more of an angle just to give it a diffrent style, what did u guys mean with the saucer? that screams excel so im thinking the GREAT EXPERIMENT OF THE GREAT EXPERIMENT!!! lol
-

That'd be because it is the Excelsior saucer. I mean what if you used a connie saucer and mixed it up a little so it resembles the Excel saucer while strongly holding onto the TOS feel. Right now it doesn't really fit the nacelles or the timeline.
-
well i was going to make some blue glows on it like it would have on tmp, u know make it like REALLY late tos, if u could draw somthing u mean up so i can get an idea i'll see what i can do thank for the feed back i apricate it
-
Here's an idea. (Please forgive me I'm no modeler, yet.) Fatten the TOS style neck, and just extend the command buldge to the back and end it in a TOS style impulse deck.
-
Not so sure on that one, his approach so far is more impressive to me in it's own right.
it bugs me how people seem to think that "TOS style" means everything must be made from kitbashed '66 era 1701 components. Don't get me wrong, there're some beautiful creations out there from that mindset, but think of the Oberth - it didn't look like other the Miranda and the Connie, and the Excelsior didn't look like them either.
Some inventive variation on the styles of the day would be interesting, just look at the extreme diversity of TNG era designs!
Ok, rant over.
Prime, I'm not saying that to bash anything you've done here. Obviously, you are an exemplar of creativity - one need only look at your TOScelsior to see that. I'm just getting those thoughts off my chest here. Sorry if they are off topic or irrelevant.
I'm not lashing out at you either, Kirk. It just seems to be an oversight that a lot of people make.
-
Bren, I don't think what Kirk is suggesting is supposed to look like a stretched out TOS Connie. He simply used that model to shows the proportions. He said he isn't a great modeler, so I doubt that he's going to actually recreate what Prime has done. What Kirk said is more relevant than the pictures. For example, Phoenix's TOS Excelsior's saucer looks just like the TMP Excelsior, except that it has a TOS bridge. What Kirk is suggesting is to make it look more like what he put in the picture. However, he is not suggesting to use a Connie saucer and engineering hull.
Frankly, if anything is an oversight, I think you misinterpreted what Kirk was suggesting.
-
lol its mine primes just giveing me examples lol
-
What did you think about my suggestion?
-
its good but as bren pointed out it would be just a simple connie bash i wanted it to scream excelsior, which given way to a short story i've writen that will make more sense. i'm having prob's with shuttle bay area at the moment but other than that she's coming on well thanks
-
My model doesn't do my idea justice. Is this a bit better? It still maintains the excel feel while looking TOS with the smooth(ish, I tried) saucer dome and bulge flowing into a connie-like impulse deck.
-
lol its mine primes just giveing me examples lol
I don't know why I said Prime lol. I meant Phoenix. I guess I said Prime because both your names start with a P and I got a little jumbled. Time to edit that so it actually makes sense.
EDIT- Oh, Bren said Prime too, when I think he meant Phoenix. Maybe that's why I got messed up.
EDIT^2- Ok, what Kirk was saying was not a Connie kitbash, he just used the Connie as an example. That's why he used an actual Excelsior model this time around.
EDIT CUBED- Yes Kirk, great idea.
-
ive got another idea how about Adding the connie buldge to the top AFTER the flat part??
-
The Connie bulge on top would look too kitbashed IMO.
-
Yer just tried it ur right, im going to stick with what i've got but play with the impulse engines a bit more, shuttle bay areas being the biggest pain!
-
lol its mine primes just giveing me examples lol
Oh god, I know. I'm such an ass. Sorry about that. I realised it a moment ago when I opened the thread. I wrote that in the middle of an all nighter designed to correct my sleeping patterns. My mind was not at it's clearest. Please accept my apologies, Fett, Kirk and Prime.. and anyone else I mixed up.
I do see what you were suggesting, Kirk, and like I said, I wasn't bashing you. I just failed to phrase the malformed thoughts in my head very well. I'm very embarrassed now. Sorry everyone!
-
its all good mate, nothing wrong really my friend! more pics uploaded tonight, IF I GET THE DAMN CONNECTION LoL
