Basically, I'm just fooling around with all of the free use models we have available to us on BCF. I would like to eventually convert some of my work into BC (or possibly Legacy,) but for now, only pretty pictures.
First off we have Anduril's Asia class. I've only just begun work on her. There have been quite a few lightmap tweaks, and I plan on doing a lot more to her. Right now I've made up a rough bussard transition from ENT to TOS, but I am very unsatisfied with the results.
Pics removed: Please see latest post.

Last Update before bed. All dorsal blinkers are modeled in and animated (video later this week.) Most registry lights are in. I think I may rebuild parts of her as she's looking a bit dated. C&c welcome, as always.
-
that looks awesome. have a cookie
-
Well, I decided to try my hand at modeling today. The Galaxy's warp core seemed simple enough, so I thought I'd give it a whirl.
Edit: Some more work before bed.
-
I like the warp cores. Reminds me of the TNG Galaxy Class warp core. The connies are awesome too. You see the plasma inside the warp nacelles from the little window ports at the tops. Great tweek.
-
It just one core, it's a wip. :P The reason it reminds you of the galaxy core is because it is. Here's one last update.
-
Photo update with a video showing how the animated light rigging works on the way.
EDIT: Here's the video. Sorry it's kind of dark. :?
-
I really hate to triple post in my own thread, but it seems that no one has anything to say, but me. :(
Here's an HD render of my core in action. It is a .mov so you will need quicktime installed. You will get a better feel for the animation if you set quicktime to loop the video. Enjoy. (c&c always appreciated, even if you are just knocking my work.)
-
Is this the thing that took you 2 days to render? Wow....
Anyway, very pwetty. Anything else next on your list?
-
Yup, this took about a day and a half to render. My eventual plan is to build all of engineering.
-
Predicted render time...5 weeks? :P
-
Predicted render time...5 weeks? :P
Well if Krik is smarter next time and only renders frames he actually needs, it'll go a lot quicker :P
Or, less stubborn, so when I point out that if he cancels it half way through and restarts it properly, it'll still be done in half the time, he actually listens and does it :P
-
Well, with my discovery of finalRender, I've started a side project, remastering the BC Intro. Here's the first few seconds that I have started. The audio/video is slightly out of sych, but this will be fixed later down the road. Enjoy for now!
-
Cookie sir!!!!
:D
-
Nice work Kirk!
-
the only thing I'd say on the remaster, here, is increase the flicker rate. mabey have the bussard do a "brownout"
-
The bussard shouldn't "brownout". It didnt get damaged.
-
The starboard bussard is at a lower power level than the port, it just isn't all that noticeable. I will see about increasing the flicker, but it seems to me that by this point, it's pretty much down for the count.

I seen it when I first viewed it. Just out of curiosity, are you gonna remake the entire video? Or just the repair scene?
-
I'm experimenting with explosions right now. If I can figure it out, I'll be remaking everything, including the win/lose videos.
-
Some more beauty.
Galaxy: SNS
Akira: SNS and Dalek
Drydock: Flat Eric
-
Oh, sweet!!
Keep it up, Kirk!
-
Nice work mate, the textures on the asia are cool. look bumped or summat, nice :)
-
*sniff sniff* I love it! :D *sniff sniff*
COOKIED
-
Forgot that I uploaded this to youtube, but didn't post it here. I've already done some more work to improve it.
-
I still say that dry dock needs to be re-sized :P
-
Find me a decent CGI level replacement then. :arms: :P
Believe me, I would love to chop off some sections, but that would screw up the model.
-
Very very very good. :D
I personally think that dry dock looks fine.
-
Maybe move the tractor in more so it doesn't have defined end when touching the ship.
-
First part of my contribution. Took 5 and a half hours to render.
-
5 hours...
Ouch.
Looks absolutely awesome though =D
-
That's good Limey...However, if it's a Terraforming station, shouldn't the planet be barren? Just offering my two cents :)
-
However, if it's a Terraforming station, shouldn't the planet be barren?
Thats what I told you [limey] over MSN! :arms:
-
And I listened! Jb is making a better planet texture for me. It'll be more barren and inhospitable.
-
Took 5 and a half hours to render.
damn and that only 19 seconds long
that ladies and gentlemen is why i will NEVER make a video...... with this crappy comp...
looking brilliant fellas, i cant wait to see the end reseult :)
-
Having a Terra-forming station over a planet doesn't mean the planet has to be barren... it could be in any stage of the planet transition/forming process.
-
But it was barren in the original vid. :P
-
But it was barren in the original vid. :P
No, no it wasn't.
The planet had water and lots of clouds.
-
The planet was cloudly but it was also yellow.
-
right... they didn't finish Terra-forming it, however, it wasn't completely barren.
-
look yourselves homies :)
-
CyAn1d3 you know you can put that link in youtube tags... XD
-
thats what that lil buttons for? damn. derp.
-
How do you guys feel about this dock?
Note: Textures have not yet been reapplied.
-
better though it's a bit tall/long... can you remove the first/last segments??
also the dock seems to be missing well the docking structure... XD
*RUNS*
-
>_>
I would be showing off the latest version of the first part, with Jb's awesome new planet texture about now, but the render (though been going for over 7 hours now) isn't even half way through! I'm off down south today to see MUSE (:arms:) and will be out til Saturday, so I guess I'll have to leave it on to finish rendering. I might set the next scene off to render concurently. They'll take longer, but its hardly gonna be quick as it is!
-
Wrong dock m8, the bc intro dock only has the curvy parts like in star trek generations ;)
-
I know Max, I'm just fishing for some opinions as finding one that fits perfectly is proving difficult. How's the Nemesis drydock look?
-
heh it works and know what's funny I think that fits the time period best. XD
Though didn't the sov barely fit into it's dock??
-
In the world of CGI, who needs continuity? :P
-
Though didn't the sov barely fit into it's dock??
sometimes tight fits are the best fits :)
-
id say go for generations dock, cause the nemesis dock doesnt work very well with the curvy lines of the galaxy
-
I think the Sovie drydock looks fine. Particularly since the Sovie is just as curvy as the Galaxy.
-
I think either dock would work, considering the time period for the game.
About the intro scene, the ship seems to have too much of a list. Personally, I like the camera angles on the original intro scene much better (except for the fact that the ship turned almost 180 degrees). I just like the way the camera moves up while the ship moves across the screen.
-
The nemisis looks better than the other one IMO :D
-
I think the galaxy suits that dock. ;)
-
*poll added*

Ok, I've modified it so the camera rises up and tilts down a little. To be honest, I ignored most of the camera move of the original cos I thought it was clunky and unrealistic, but I think this should work better. I've animated the size of the glow on the nacelles to be smaller when theyre further away. I'll render out a lower quality version tonight to check its all ok before committing to 20 hours of rendering.
-
I have something neat to show off. I made the glowing interior of the shuttle bay, although the scene I'm rendering doesn't use it.
-
Thats awsome work there Kirk mate. make a nice siggy or summat :)
-

Send. Now. (http://www.jl-studios.co.uk/arms.gif)
Now for something completely (not) different:
-
Very Nice. I like. Now how are you going to do the captain? Actually do a model of him? Or just keep with the exterior of the shuttle craft.
-

I have actually been looking at rigging a head, but whether I actually do redo the interiors shots or not, I don't know. At the worst, I would just stick with the current interior shots rather than replacing them with exteriors.

Much better!!! I'd give you an enthusiastic thumbs up, or a dancing smiley face, but I can't. :(
Looking at it again, the only improvement I can see would be to slow down the camera rotation a bit. I started getting a little dizzy the second time I watched it.

Really? Me and Dalek think its worse :P Because theres nothing to compare the Dauntless to, it looks like its moving down rather than the camera moving up. I'll wait for some more opinions before rendering it out properly.
As for the speed of rotation, it's not really something that can change. It needs to pick the Dauntless up and move with it.
-
I think that test render looks fine. I'll have to send you my updated galaxy though. It uses more finalPlugins and looks better for it :D Plus more glow continuity.
-
this video is like the one at the bc game start, or is that the point. you are remaking it
-
That's the point. :P
-
ok i now understand, you are doing really nice stuff
-
Something
-
Oh, sweet. A TOS styled Wiley JJPrise.
Although, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for one with twirling bussards like this pack: http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/TOS_Constitution_Pack;39872
-
YAY!!! Nice!! No blue bussards. They may have over done the blue a little.
-
I've gone back and further updated the Galaxy, now it has running lights.
-
A few more shots
-
Frickin' Sweet.
-
Looks like the nemesis dock is winning! I'll see if I can make the changes soon. Some new shots from Sean's Defiant bridge v3.
-
Decided to give the XI retexture a go again. Really early start.
-
at least SOMEONE'S making an attempt at a JJ bridge.. i didn't get to see too much of anything, I was busy observing the Blue Bishonen ghetto sitting in the chairs (and that includes the guy playing Chris Pike!)
-

I was too busy being blinded by the stupid lens flare :arms:
-
Yes, but this is not the place for arguing about that.
More pretties stuffz Kirk? :)
-
Yes, but this is not the place for arguing about that.
Yes, quite.
Good to see the new Captain Kirk has good taste in music though :arms:
-
Did some experimentation with making planet textures in Max, I'm kind of pleased.
-
I dunno, I think what you had before looked better.
One thing you could do in the intro that would make nitpickers like me very happy, is set the planet models to not cast shadows on the ship.
I know it happens in the original intro, but that's just as much a gaff as the lower saucer bumps being applied to the upper saucer.
The shadow of a planet at that distance is simply nowhere near defined enough to pass over a ship like that. Things like that, and one of the shots of all the basestars over Caprica in The Plan (some of the basestars are partially behind the limb of the planet), really bug me. It's lack of respect for the true scale of planets.
Anyway, that's my little bit of OCD input. VERY nice work on everything else, though.
-

Of course it would! The edge may be a little fuzzier than I made there due to clouds and things, but you can't get around that fact that when you're on the opposite side of a planet to the Sun, it's dark, and when you're on the same side, it's light! That transistion has to take place somewhere.
-

actually, that looks exactly like unrestored TOS planets. mabey you should put those out in a retro pack.
-
look very TOS
-
Going with that TOS theme you guys liked.
Edit: Yikes, the photoshopped version looks nothing like it did in photoshop. :S Unaltered uploaded.
-
um...I dont think the area behind the nav-def dish was illuminated.
-
It wasn't, Brex's connie was just the first one I came across that I already had fully prepared for use in Max.
-
Lol, Dalek and I had the same idea, yet never talked about it, nor saw each others work. :P
-

We did?
-
Yeah, the whole JJ/Trek XI theme. Updated render, with weird bug fixed.
-
Hopefully this updated nifskope fixes my troubles with Max.
-
King Class Scout will want your babies after seeing that one. :D :funny
-
Lionus *whops with a worf pillow for that*
that'd work better with a JJaedalus, personally. still think I wanna make a JJ refit Dade.
-
I'd recommend making a Kelvinized Daedy first.. it's not so much different from the original one..
-
Dyson class just released.
-
Updates to the aforementioned Dyson.
-
One didn't fit.
-
Awesome stuff, dude! Now do one from the ST XI-haters perspective of a white screen! :funny
Seriously though, I like.

Do not like the song...but the pic is really impressive.

The animation is well built, but make the animation with starfields from the video post :P Then it would be awesome  and for the warp flash, you can make lens flare glow for the naccels, 20% self-illumination, about 75% glow intensity and about 4-4.5 size, for normal. When charging warp engines, enlarge the self-iilumination to 100% and after that cut down to 20% and warping, then it would be like real warping, but thats if you want in the animation for the ship to go to warp :P
-
The animation is well built, but make the animation with starfields from the video post :P
They are I think. Based on the way the stars didnt budge an inch when the camera was moving. :P
And what warp flash?
-
This was showing off the modifications I've made to DJ's original model, nothing more. Had I wanted a real starfield or warp effects, they would have been there. I appreciate the suggestions though.
-

For a warp flash I use an omni with proper lens effect settings and its looking well. Everyone can try :P ;)
-
An old warp out sequence I did by manipulating video post glow effects.
-
Its good, but make the accelaration faster :P Here is animation of mine :P It is a bit old but for example of accelaration and the naccel charging is with omni lights :funny
-
What I find happens a lot in warp sequences is that the ship stretches. Thats what I always did when I still had Max; I stretched the ship and then moved it so far away the viewport couldn't pick it up.
-
that's nice. is that my galaxy?
-
Yes it is. I must've failed to put that in the title. :P
-
no prob.
-

here's a video I did that has a stretch warp effect, it's about 1:18 to 1:20 in.
http://www.trek-tube.com/play.php?vid=277 (http://www.trek-tube.com/play.php?vid=277)
I'm sure Dalek will recognize it.
What I ended up doing for the effect was slowly increasing the y-axis scale, then cutting with a fade and snapping it back in half as many frames, while the ship also moves away from the camera. then the warpflash is a separate shot I composited in with a quick fade when the ship got to it's farthest point. I couldn't figure out how to do the initial power up glow with the tools I had.
Of course on TNG it was completely done with an optical illusion. they started with the 6 ft model than switched to a 2 ft model to give the illusion it suddenly jumped farther from the camera.
-
Vehicle ads of the 25th century. :P
-
eh I'd believe that more with shuttles and hover cars seen in the cities :P
-
:dontcare: Find me some CGI shuttles then. :P Better yet, I know of some. Good idea! :D
-
Type 9: Fly One!
-
Hah, if only Majel were around to voice those ads...
-
What if Sulu had responded?
-
WOW! Thats amazing!
-
Thank you, it's unfortunate that these things seem to be born out of insomnia for me. :P
-
So are most songs by Owl City :P
-
Very effective use of lens flare! Would be a beautiful scene in the next Star Trek...
-
heres my dumb attempt...i did this a few days ago, theres no stretching, but the cameras soo far away you cant tell
-
Are you using Max? The "stretch" for warp effect is simple: just animate a non-uniform scale into the movement of the ships.
The way I got the video below (I kept it slow so you could see easily) is I simply placed a plane behind the very end of the nacelle and then animated at each frame from 1-10, 1-5 being the stretch out and 6-10 being the stretch back to normal. At each frame, I would go to the top view and zoom in on the spot where the nacelle should touch the plane I made. Then scale up until the nacelle edge is touching it again and move to the next frame. Repeat. You can do this for every frame, every other frame or every 10 frames: the principle is the same. The animation for the scale back to normal is the exact reverse of the scale-up. Just copy and paste numbers from the earlier keyframes in reverse order. Make sure you remove the plane after you're done with it!
Now it's your turn to teach me something: how do you get those flashes?
-
Wait, isn't this "Kirk's" G-A Thread? Isn't this your own work?
-
DJ's Galaxy
-
hmm if the warp engines are off shouldn't the bussard have a more grey white(clear like) look and the grills a gold color?
*lol ducks and runs*
nice picture though btw :D
-
Couldn't remember which looked like what. Thanks neb!
-
And shouldn't those windows be blacked out? :P The curse of BC's limitation when it comes to windows...
-
And shouldn't those windows be blacked out? :P The curse of BC's limitation when it comes to windows...
Why would the windows be blacked out if they are working in the ship :P
Also this isn't a BC shot :P
-
Why would the windows be blacked out if they are working in the ship
This
Also, better?
-
much better :D
-
Why would the windows be blacked out if they are working in the ship :P
Well, if they're not working inside the actual ship then having the windows on would be silly.
Also this isn't a BC shot :P
I know, but DJ made the ship so that it would work in BC and BC can't illuminate windows from the inside. The active windows have to be textured so that they appear online before the alpha can be added.
-
or you could use transparency, but it would be a waste of polys
-
What would be better is if you could use the Bumps that DJ uses for the NanoFX Viewer....
Then we'd see the ol' four footer making her CG appearance :D
Looking great there Kirk.
-
...
-
cool war galaxy
-
Just the standard one. I left the deflector that color kind of like the TMP connie.
-
na if you followed the SNS Galaxy line and what was seen in DS9... there were Galaxy's with gold deflectors... that were fan classified as War Galaxies.
-
But in his mind, it isn't a war galaxy. Its just a normal galaxy with a different deflector.
-
I got that Dalek.... :roll
Just stating my thoughts.... :roll
Lets wait for Kirk now >.>
-
play nicely, kids. :nono:
-
..
-
Like the color change in teh deflector :D
-
..
-
LMAO perfect Kirk...and...that gives me an idea...*starts up Open Office*
-
These are beautiful, Kirk! The drydock one really struck me too with the lack of stars. It helps draw the attention to the focus and at the same time gives the illusion that the sun is very bright.
You irritate me, sir! :funny I need to get off my butt and try doing this stuff sometime, there's been so much inspiration showing up on this forum recently, your renders included. ;)
-
The drydock one really struck me too with the lack of stars.
lack of stars?? I see lots of em.
-
First render didn't have any.
-
lack of stars?? I see lots of em.
NASA's been at the airbrush again... :p
Loving the new warp look Baz. If I remember correctly, there was a TNG episode where you saw the Enterprise go into warp but from inside the ship, looking through a window. Is this the effect that you are going for?
-
Loving the new warp look Baz.
What?
-
What?
maybe posted in wrong thread... IDK lol

Did this one up today. 2nd was a neat mishap I had.
