is it possible to have two separate installations of BC? for example, one for KM and one for stargate etc etc.. I think that in the long run, it would be easiest solution to avoid BSOD and freezing issues for a noob like me. If this can be done, I'm listening.
-
yup
just follow these steps
1. Install BC
2. Install BC patch
3. Copy that BC install and past where ya want
4. rename that new install to what ever ya want..
5. repeat as many times ya want.
6. Install KM to the new folder.
7. do the same to the others.

roger that. I will try it out soonish, but I noticed that KM seems to have clashing interests with Stargate ship pack v3, hence why I asked..
-
Stargate Ship Pack v3 was tested (and built) on a KM1 install, so they does work together... if there is something going wrong with your install in particular, im quite sure it can be fixed if you explain more about your issue and produce a console report...
-
it's already up in the technical department in the thread I made.
-
If you're making multiple installs, it's always a good idea to have a clean, unmodded (except for 1.1 patch and perhaps foundation) as a backup in case any stop working.
-
basically 3 installations then.. one clean with 1.1 patch, one with KM and one with Stargatev3.. I still wonder what could have caused the frozeup in my previous installation if the V3 IS compatible with KM,, since to me it seemed that the cause was the hyperdrive mod which made the DS9FX shut off.. oh well.. I'll find out someday when I grow up. :P

this is a link to the SG Ship Pack Tech Support forum (http://bcs-tng.com/forums/index.php?board=55.0), if that helps at all :)
-
I'll visit them if the problem occurs again. :) thanks :D
edit: could it be the toban mine that caused the freezing and crashing to desktop? there most of the necessary files about the toban mine, but on the SG ship pack support they mentioned that it needs separate script..
-
The file you need is in this thread. http://bcs-tng.com/forums/index.php?topic=2901.0
Look at my reply in that thread to get the file you need for the Toban mine. You're welcome. 8)

is it possible to create separate shortcuts for the KM and SG installations? Am I right if I say that all I need to do is copypaste the original and change the target file to the renamed ones?
-
yes you just have to make shortcuts to the exe you want.
that also works.
-
alright, thanks. :) I'll bother you more when I get a reason. it's both a promise and a threat. :P
and I already have a reason..
well, I got the shortcuts to work... HOWEVER..
1. now my stock BC crashes when I try to load a mission which I was on. it worked perfectly before I attempted copying the shortcuts and editing them for KM and SG installations.
2. KM installation is missing the master switch and a bunch of other stuff, like the intro video and music and stuff like that, despite the fact that I installed it correctly and ran the KM clean thingie.
3. SGv3 installation, read #2.
*facepalms* I'm wondering why I'm even bothering to modify and make separate installations since they seem to fail at the same time.. :argh: :x I think I shall just make one installation and try to add the ships into the KM oldfashioned way, with the BCMP.. I know, BCUT is out there, but somehow, I find it to be bit difficult to figure out.
-
huh BCUT is quite easy and doesn't kill your install like BCMP can....
besides the only time you would need either is when installing the foundation or extra ships
(KM doesn't need either anyway)
btw it is much easier to just make new shortcuts from the exe files on the sep installs other than editing old shortcuts....

I happen to like adding ships to KM. :P not that it finally gives chance to fully exploit all the abilities which the ship has.. well, when it works as it should. And somehow BCUT feels awkward to me. dunno why.. I guess I have to look at the tutorials mire closely.

and now you tell me this. :? oh well, now I know what and how and such..
and another question.. does BC support multi threading? I tried the game on my friends "slightly overclocked" dual core comp, and it lagged to no end when we tried 20-40 ships against borg cube.. it was using only one of the cores and topped it out, which led to crash.
-
BC is picky and it may or may not use multiple cores... after all this game was designed and released before they existed...
btw BC is more likely to lag out when you don't have good gfx cards or enough gfx memory.
-
well, his comp plays Prototype, Mirrors Edge, EVE online etc etc without a single slowdown even when there's lots of stuff going on and off the screen, so I'd dare to say that it's pretty good.
-
20 - 40.... i wish i could get past 7 or 8 without lag problems..
im jealous.

If something is not clear there are support forums for it over at BCS-TNG where you can reach me.

Thanks, I'll get in touch when ( ) the need arises.. :)
