Post by: Nebula on June 30, 2009, 08:29:20 PM
Because this was an awesome series/universe and this new forum needs more threads. :P

I'm in the process of finishing the 5th season of B5 on DVD.

I just started watching. I'm on the 5th episode. It's very interesting. I'd like to think of it as the future of BSG based on the uniform styling alone. :P

I've always thought seasons 1 and 5 were a bit pants comapred to the rest
Title: Re: Babylon 5 Universe Discussion
Post by: Nebula on July 01, 2009, 01:28:15 PM
hmm season 1 they were figuring things out and had TNT meddling in some of the eps....
Season 5 they didn't even know they were going to get + one of the cast left them so they had to create a new character (that kinda set things back)

One thing I do know that was good throughout was the music.... WOW!

One problem with B5 is that you really need to follow it from the beginning, you can't just pick it up or miss an episode. Kinda like Lost.

Season 5 they didn't even know they were going to get

Yeah, they thought they got canceled after the fourth, so all the ideas they had for fourth and fifth where squeezed in to the fourth. And the fifth was then written very quickly.

The last ep of S5 was meant to be the last ep of S4. Hence no Tracy Scoggins (can't remember her character name) and a return of (the awesome) Susan Ivanova (can't remember her real name :P).

The little pistol sfx gets used quite a bit in other stuff as well.

And is it me or is Ivanova the only one I've actually seen outside of B5? I know Sheridan was in Heroes recently but that was it...

Most (and technically all) actors do.

I liked how G'Kar turned from warrior into a priest and didn't go all soppy about it. :D

No, the young monk is season 4's finale. I know Marcus isn't Baltar. I'm not that thick of an american.

i agree, and i have all the series too and some of the movies and the spin-off crusade.... unfortunately crusade was less well done than B5 and you mentioned B5 music.... dont get me started on crusades music diabolical is putting it mildly. and i don't want to put any one off but they do this weird "no sound but crap music" thing in the battles.

put it this way: B5 awsome with season 5 (capt lockley right) being worst but they have a few good episodes like "a view from the gallery" which follows a 2 man repair crew during a major attck rather than the main cast brilliant (but i am electrician by trade so...)

I finished watching season 5, and I'm re-watching season 1. Wow, the writing for season 5 was terrible. I'm enjoying the first season so much more.

Yes. Well, it was written in a rush after all. JMS had more time to complete the first season.

yeah, well that fifth season, was kinda tacked on, the show was going to end after the fourth, I felt that season 4 was a bit rushed because they had originally planned to spread it out over 4 and 5, but combined them when they thought 4 was the final season.

Just finished "War Without End" and I have to say that is by far the BEST story arc (from Season 1: Babylon Squared to Season 3!) I have ever seen.  I always wondered if they would try to work that into the show at some point, and all the time it was a planned thing!  Great job of meshing the two stories together, as well as using the original footage to supplement the newer stuff.  Emmy-worthy episodes, right there . . .

For anyone who doesn't have the DVDs, there is a website called TheWB that has all the episodes.

BTW does anyone else prefer Sinclair to Sheridan or am I the only one?
Title: Re: Babylon 5 Universe Discussion
Post by: Dalek on July 30, 2010, 11:44:15 AM
Sheridan. Sinclair was good, he was just a bit wooden at times. In fact, I think that his disappearance and then reappearance mid-way through series 3 did his character some good. His "destiny" I think surprised most people and we still don't quite know the end of his story.

I've grown to love this series ever since I first saw it years ago. A damn shame that the francise has died out. Perhaps, it's for the better. Maybe they can released a remastered version someday, at least.

The franchise is still pretty konked out. The Lost Tales DVD was released 3 years ago, however I just came across this.

Quote
"During the "Spotlight on J. Michael Straczynski" panel at the 2010 New York Comic Con, Straczynski revealed ?I said to Warner Bros. a while back, 'When you?re ready to do something real with 'Babylon 5,' either a big-budget film or a TV show, if you want to do one of those two things, call me, otherwise don?t bother me.' About a month ago the phone rang. I don?t know where this is gonna go yet, but when they call you, there?s something going on. I can?t tell you what it is yet and it may not go anywhere, but there is movement in the tall grass.?"

There was a new Babylon 5 comic in the works, but Straczynski stated at that same conferance that there were no more plans for it, or so I've read.  :(

This video transfixed me. Not the usual shityass fanwank vid. And Bester...he's like combining the Joker, Pol Pot, and Rick Santorum and then adding the mind of Album Dumbledore & Gandalf. He radiates hate like Ivanova radiates Ivanova.

'Babylon 5' star Michael O'Hare dies

Sept. 30, 2012, 6:40 AM EST

WENN

"Babylon 5" star Michael O'hare has died at the age of 60. The actor, who starred as Commander Jeffrey Sinclair in the sci-fi series, passed away on Friday, five days after he suffered a heart attack and slipped into a coma.

"Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski has paid tribute to O'Hare, calling his loss a terrible blow.

He writes in a post on Facebook, "This is a terrible loss for all B5 (Babylon 5) fans, and everyone involved with the show wishes to convey their condolences to the O'Hare family. He was an amazing man."

O'Hare was a regular cast member in the first season of "Babylon 5," and he also made appearances in the second and third seasons. His TV work also included roles in "Law & Order," "L.A. Law" and soap opera "One Life to Live," and he performed in the original Broadway production of "A Few Good Men."

I will miss him greatly.

He was my favorite character in B5. I really liked Bruce Boxleitner, but I loved Michael O'Hare.

He had a quiet yet at the same time strong manner to his enactment of Commander Sinclair. I watched B5 in their first airings and own the entire DVD set plus all the movies. I can't tell you how bummed I was when the 2nd season had Sheridan as the new Commander. Once again, I really liked Sheridan a lot but whether J. Michael Strazcynski purposely wrote out Sinclair or whatever... there was nothing wrong with the first Commander... please bring him back!

He was only 60 years old... way too young. May he rest in peace and he will be remembered.
