I posted this over at BCS before I left for US Army Basic Training. I'm putting out the call for a good texturer to put some life into her. Contact me if your interested!

 Hey all,
Been a while since i poked my nose around here. Unfortunately I wont be here long either as iI will be leaving for US Army basic training on june 4 for 3 months.
Anyways, I've been working on a ship. Now I hope someone creative out there can help me with naming this bad boy. She is a Deep Standoff Attack Vessel (D-SAV), meaning
that this ship is purely designed with deep space combat in mind. She is a Savage Class. As always you comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

My suggestion is making it a Terran Empire vessel. The whole array of torpedo tubes would well fit them.

-
My initial inclination was to respond with 'Flutter kicks, go!' . . . That being said, I think the nacelles look too bulky, they sort of clash with the lines of the ship. Other than that, not a bad concept.

-
				Fix the mesh errors.

I Agree! It would make a nice as=ddition to the TE Fleet! Although it could also be a Post Dominion War Federation Border defence Cruiser

What do you mean by fix the mesh errors? I'm pretty new to modeling and this is my first complete mesh. I really appreciate the constructive critisim. This project has actualy been sitting around for the past 3 months since, as i said, i was at basic training. If anyone has the time to help I'd greatly appreciate it!

On that picture, there are some areas on the mesh that resemble dark triangular shapes. They are one of 2 things:
 1. Mesh errors were triangles have overlapped (I think thats whay they mean anyway)
 or
 2. Areas of the mesh that haven't been smoothed out yet.

Its great to see new models come along. I really like the potential of this ship. But Basic training comes first.
-
Ok thanks. Can you point me in the direction of how to fix those errors?

-
Hmmm, they look like smoothing groups and possibly unwelded verts. you can google those terms, and look at the tuts found on this forum..  but it does depend on the software you are using.

looks awesome but the winglets on the neck and that pod/spoiler thing on top of the saucer are going to take a bit getting used to. it does stand out though because not many federation design-lineage ships have winglets just kind of jutting out of the sides of ships and whatnot. my biggest qualm however is after all the refits and years of service.... why has anyone never done anything to modify the nacelle pylons? what about angling them and sweeping them backwards just to throw something new into the mix.

bty, what branch are you in? (as in who are you with, i'm assuming that you're reserves or something because the reg-forcers wouldn't have as much time as you would...)

*EDIT* just re-read the first post and i see ur U.S. Army. very cool. but still, u with the reserves or national guard or w/e ur called down there? sorry lol I'm Canadian Forces Reserve so there's a whole a$$load of different names that you guys have than what we do.
-
I serve with the Pennsyilvania National Guard, but after i do my senior year in High School I'll probaly go active. Anyway, I'll look into the pylons, as those are usually left unchanged in excelsior varients

The Bloody Buckets have a rich and long history (with the 28th Infantry Division being the oldest unit in the U.S. Army and all) I suggest you do something with this model to honor that. :)

-
holy crap, thats got more bells and whistles than a swiss army knife.
not bad tho, however i do agree with everyone, get the smoothing and mesh errors in line and your all gravy.

where you goin for basic btw? im enlisting myself in october for the army

				I went to FT Jackson. I'm a 15P (Aviation Operations Specialist/Door Gunner).

Don't fall out whatever you do! :P

I see that someone is using my Lakota variant from my Excelsior Family Pack. I hope the conversion will not look like crap ingame.

I apologize for going off topic, but, its good information for those interested.

Congrats on completing basic training, Private.  Just so you know, 15P is more like "flight administration" for the Army. If some one told you that you'd be manning a door gun, they told you wrong.

You'll be doing things like: processing local and cross country flight clearances, checking accuracy of and coordinating flight plans, maintaining logs of incoming and outgoing flights, interpreting and posting weather reports, and maintaining files. Of course, this is all just what the Army says your MOS does and your actual duties will vary.

That being said, if you're looking for a steady job when you're done with AIT, check out this: http://www.dmva.state.pa.us/dmva_png_hro/lib/dmva_png_hro/announcements/techjobs_%28090922%29.pdf (http://www.dmva.state.pa.us/dmva_png_hro/lib/dmva_png_hro/announcements/techjobs_%28090922%29.pdf) Fed Tech program is interesting... its basically the U.S. Government's way of getting active duty Soldiers for the Guard and Reserve with out giving them active duty military benefits. The program operates in every state.

The plus side is that you're working for the Federal Government... so the job is stable. The downside is you don't get BAH, BAS, COLA... etc. However, for some jobs tech pay is considerably better because its based more on the skill of your job than the flat military pay grade is. I've been working as one for the last couple years... the unit I drill with is also the unit I work for full time. Just something for you to look into.
-
ok...to be more specific, I am a 15P but Dorr Gunner school is in my contract lol. I just said it in a shorter way so that the non military folks in here could understand.

Back to buisness however, yes, i am using your Excelsior as a base,
Cyote. When its ready to be released I will ask for permission, unless youd like to let me have it now. Would you like to see the model yourself?
