Hi there, I've been having a D3D Render Creation Error for a while now and all the solutions people suggest include either deleting or editing an "options.cfg" file within the Bridge Commander folder. But for some reason there is no options.cfg file in my folder anywhere. :(
What should I do?
-
the options.cfg file is just inside the main bc directory... not under scripts and such.
-
Yeah, I know that's where it's supposed to be, but it's not there, I ran a search and everything which turned up with came up with an options folder which has a couple files in it, but no single options.cfg file.
There is however an options.TGL in the data folder which I can't open, so I temporarily deleted to see if it'd work. It didn't help so I restored the file and it's back there now
EDIT: I forgot to mention I have the Kobayashi Maru 1.0 mod, would that have deleted the options.cfg file when I added it?
-
tell me how you installed everything.
-
First installed STBC as normal, then copied the files from KM 0.9 into the stbc folder replacing the appropriate files, then patched to KM 1.0
I don't see how it could have deleted a file though, at most it would have replaced it with another of the same name and file type.
It was working perfectly with no problems for about 2-3 weeks until I tried playing it one day and the D3D Error came up
-
ok see here... I don't remember there ever being a km .9 to km 1.0 patch...
to install KM you need to follow this
1. BC
2. BC 1.1 patch
3. KM 1.0 full
-
woops, sorry I got a mixed up there, It was over a month ago I did this so I couldn't remember exactly. But I followed those steps exactly (just checked the readme again).
Do you think if I could get the options.cfg file off someone it could fix it? I could ask one of my friends to send it to me, the files would be the same for each game right?
-
Someone else's options.cfg will not work. The file is automatically generated by BC for your computer.
-
well.. that's a tough cookie then..
would the options.tgl file I found have the same sort of info that'd be the .cfg file?
I don't know what software to use to open it though
-
no it won't
You are using a genuine retail version of BC, right?
-
Yep, the only thing I'd be weary of is the version of KM which I torrented, I was linked to the torrent of it by a friend so I don't know if it's 100% the same as the one linked on the official site but I'm pretty sure that's legit too, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be
-
What operating system do you use?
Maybe your OS thinks it's a system file so it's set hidden.
-
There are 3 versions of the KM torrent that was released by the KM team. Which one did you download?
-
I'm running Vista Business
And..
The torrent is just "kobmaru1.0full.zip.torrent" and I'm pretty sure it was from bitreactor.
That's all I know I'm afraid

Ok, go into your folder options and make sure that Vista is showing hidden and system files.
Edit: You can tell Windows to show you all the hidden files on your computer. In an Explorer window, select Tools | Folder Options and click the View tab. The list of Advanced Settings includes a Hidden Files And Folders category. Click the Show Hidden Files And Folders check box so that a check appears. This setting reveals hidden files in all folders, not just the current folder. Hidden files appear listed with regular files, but their icons are paler than those of regular files. To reveal the hidden files that Windows considers "special," uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended) check box. Click Yes in the warning dialog box. Click OK when you have finished making changes in the Folder Options dialog box to make the changes active.

Done everything you said, including in your edit, checked the folder, then ran another search. Still nothing :/
-
Try searching in C:\Users\YOUR NAME\..... .
-
When I search c:\user\me\etc...... the only result that comes up is km_clean
-
heh run KM clean...
-
Way ahead of ya. When I run it, it says something along the lines of "key binding not registered" or something, so it doesn't do anything.
I really appreciate everyone's help, but I'm going to head to bed, maybe I'll think of something when I wake up tomorrow.
-
did you run BC at all before installing KM?
-
Nope, only after I had KM installed and it was fine for about 2-3 weeks and this randomly happened
