Title: What do I need?
Post by: Sparks on November 27, 2009, 04:18:01 PM
I was going thru some old boxes of mine and ran across my old copy of Bridge Commander.  I thought would re-vist the game and its mods.   Though it has been almost 5 years since I have last ran it or installed any mods.  Back then there was supposed to be the big Mod called Bridge Commander 2.  I am assuming this has since fell thru, also nanoFX was big and BCMI and BCMP were used as often as the game itself.  From what I've found is BCUT as replaced both of those, so I am going to assume that everything that I once knew about modding this game can be tossed out the window?

So what do I need to download? I have BC and Patch 1.1 installed, and downloaded BCUT.  I been reading some forums and kept comming acrossed KM1, which I'm assuming is short for the mod Kabayashi Maru - How is this mod?  I also read thru *List of Mods* thead does the Kabayashi Maru mod auto install all of those for me or will I need to install those prior to installing Kabayashi Maru.  This was how I remember it, if a Mod required other features you needed to install them yourself.

Is there any mod that allows for a list for some basic Multiplayer, if i remember correctly this was almost impossible b/c it required everyone to have every setup the same.

Any Mod suggestions?

Well, for a basic install for MP to work, install these things in this order for it to work. Kobarashi Maru 1.0 is MP compatible:

1. BC
2. BC 1.1 Patch
3. Kobayashi Maru 1.0 (it includes the Foundation which makes modded ships work in BC)
4. Any other BC mods (except for Supermod 3, it is Single Player compatible only and really doesn't like other mods being installed on top of it and it would also overwrite the majority of the KM ships).

BCUT has replaced BCMP and BCMI completely and is much more efficient and has no known bugs (and if there are they are easily fixed by its creator).

Kobayashi Maru 1.0 is a very big download and last time I checked is not on BC Files due to a rule introduced involving copyrighted music. There is a link for it elsewhere but I do not have it.
KM itself is a very good mod pack, giving you a large range of ships for all races and adding a lot of other races as well. It contains all the big mods like NanoFXv2, DS9FX 3.0 and lots of other little trinkets which are fun to use ingame.
And like I mentioned before, it is all MP compatible but is recommended that you create to seperate BC installs, one for adding lots of mods and the other for MP'ing (so the only mod being KM 1.0).

I think that just about covers it. :)

KM 1.0 indeed does include most of the mods that had appeared before it had been made. there are few small mods you might want, such as Elmister's Common Weapons Pack and few others.. keep an eye on this thread, I'm sure that some of the moderators or more experienced modders will chime in and help new guy to fresh start. A word of warning.. once you get into KM, you don't want to stop..  :funny

Make 2 installs
1st install Multiplayer: KM1 only

2nd install Single Player: Get KM1 then ether Scothey's  Galaxy, Dj's galaxy or GCMP 2.0 and patch (use bcut to uninstall the venture scout, Constitution class starship and Miranda Class ship that came with km 1.0).

Next DL the Aftermath tos warpack and read closely (it has a confusing install if you just want tos ships. also this mod is a addon pack, and will have many more. Next is R_TOS and F_TMP K_TMP and R_TMP)

This is all done on a new folder on the desktop
1. Extract the Aftermath pack to a New Folder on your desktop.
2. Go into the scripts folder in your ++desktop's new folder++
3. Enter custom, ships and delete anything that doesn't start with F_TOS or K_TOS
4. Repeat step 3 in scripts,ships and scripts,ships,hardpoints
5. now drag the Data Script's and ships folders into your bc root directory
usually C:/Program Files/Activision/Bridge Commander.

Now install all of CR's mod packs (new versions)and dkelt's torpdo pack 2.0

now install my CR's CG Sovereign pack rehardpoint.
Don't DL ANY OF THE SUPER MODS

im sorry, but post does not make sense...

IMO - make an install for Single Player Campaign only...  BC Supermod 3.0 by CR may want to be considered for that...
have another install to MP uses - KM 1.0 works for that...
have a 3rd install for personal use to mod the hell out of it as youd like...
make other installs for beta testing, etc...

important:  make backups as you go, and test each thing out before installing something else...
