Title: Ambassador Class REFERENCES NEEDED
Post by: DJ Curtis on January 04, 2010, 11:24:29 PM
Hey guys.  To begin with, I'm on the hunt for a really good set of Ambassador schematics.  I've done some checking but am not really satisfied.  If you have some, or know where I can get some good ones, could you please post here.

Timing! I found my brothers old Star Trek Fact Files the other day and scanned in a load of schematics at crazy high res, including ones for the Ent-C. I've got either the 3 seperate images (each about 10,000 x 10,000 and around 250 MB) or all 3 peiced together (at 26,781 x 11,681 and 375 MB) but the latter may have some errors around where I peiced the images together. I can, of course, scale them down to whatever size you'd prefer first.

If anyone else is interested in any of the other schematics, drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

Hey... If he wants to make an Ambassador he shoud... I think we can all agree that his models are some of the best you can get at the moment...

... am I wrong?

Or a proto Ambassador?

One of Wiley's many thousands of projects.

... am I wrong?

Not wrong, just that the JLS Ambie serves well for early TNG era (and its very good too).

The JLS is a very nice model...but you can never have enough selection....some models it seems are done to death....and as much as DJ likes to build and design his own ships....i think there is a certain joy for all modelers to build cannon designs...with a bit of artistic licesnse...such as the lack of torpedo tubes on the Ambassador Class model from TNG:Yest Ent and the shots from DS9 Emmissary when we see Wolf359....

How so? Apart from the phasers around the shuttlebay it looks entirely canon to me.

Honestly I still believe they should have better aft phaser and ventral phaser coverage, I know its been discussed to death

Personally I love this ambassador http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/JL_Studios_Ambassador;97003x but I need to adjust somethings on it like I believe a dominion war version where it manuevers better, stronger shields, and maybe slightly stronger weapons, although they pack more than enough punch to take down a KM keldon

DJ is there a class you can't model?

Glad to see you've moved into the 24th Century.

The studio model built for TNG had to be finished quickly which explains lack of ventral phaser coverage and no visable torpedo launchers and why the Ambie doesn't match the original planned Ambie design.

DJ if I were you I'd add a ventral array like most references include despite it not being on the Enterprise. Although I do recall a shot in Deep Space Nine of an Ambie firing phasers from that region during the Battle of Wolf 359.

For me, I prefer JL Studios Ambassador. It is the newest one and it looks just like LC's. I do not suggest ships often but how about Probert's Proto-Ambassador?

I've given up on it for the time being due to mapping issues.

how in the heavens name does that model have uneven engines?? If its a modification of the Enterprise-C model?? Did they drop the model and it broke? is that what happened? and was the yamaguchi/excalibur model seen in Emissary at Wolf359??

From what I see there have been 2 configurations wih the nacelles, one has a very short pylon, with low nacelles; and the other has taller pylons with higher nacelles. I think that model is to show the two sorts.

If you read some of the production extras on some of the TNG seasons on DVD, the warehouse where the production models were stored were always getting banged around. Like the Constellation model in Picard's office. Note in a few episodes, its swayed/ bent or missing an engine. That is because the stage security people were always either playing with it, or it was getting knocked over during production. Similar damages have happened to the Enterprise-A models aswell as Ambassador, Excelsior, and Galaxy models. That is probably the reason why one engine is a little off compared to the other.

Or the photo was taken at a wierd angle.

From what I have read on EAS and drex files, that picture was taken when the model was being redressed from the Zhukov to the Excalibur. and apparently it was an intentional modification that was never finished, they apparently meant to lower the other nacelle as well, but never got around to it.  I haven't been able to varify it, but from what I have read, the model is still in this configuration.

What I figure is that there was some damage, either from stage handling or left over Yesterday's Enterprise, on that pylon that couldn't be painted over, There is evidence on other parts of the model that they moved parts, like the saucer, to cover some damage.  I suspect they ran out of time rehabbing the model and had to rush it out to filming before they could finish, which also explains why it has markings for two different ships on it.  Since the last time we saw it was in Redemption II.  I suspect they never bothered to fix it because they didn't need it again.

ah redemption 2 when the Enterprise leads the Fleet out to the Klingon border..i wasn't sure if it was then or during the DS9-Emmissary cuz we see an ambassador and a nebula class at the Battle of Wolf359
