Hey there!
I'm a really bored unemployed person looking for a free Starship (Star Trek) 3d model to use in a game simulator. Basically, in our free time my dedicated programmer and I are going to build a battle simulator for starships to blow each other to bits.
I already have a starship model I've made but it's much to high polygon for the intended use of the game engine. So you don't think I'm some skill-less noob who's going to take and butcher your models to death you can see I'm quite handy with a 3d program: http://www.zombieevolution.com/starship6.jpg I could build my own, but I figure maybe one of you would lend me one to shave off a few days for me making one from scratch.
Anyways, the only modifications that would be done to your model is it would be split up into many separate objects, and then fractured so the game engine could destroy parts when damaged (using the C4 game engine). This is a relatively simple project, with the hope that it will be completed shortly and released to the public to play for fun. If found to be fun and accumulate many players, we will update the game.
Thanks for your time, if you'd like to chat with me over Ventrilo just send me a PM or reply :)
EDIT: Would prefer a new-starship model, something that looks Enterprise E-era.

check the public domain meshes section at BCFiles
-
How low poly is low poly? To some it may mean 10k, to some 300.
-
Anything lower than 20,000 preferably.
I checked out the free models for the public domain, and they are alright but are much lower polygon with low resolution textures. I've seen some great models available for BC though there for instance the Sobieski ship: http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Sobieski_class;112183 or the CG Sovereign http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/CG_Sovereign;17665
-
You have my permission to use either Sobieski or Krakow class ;)
-
Bones, you are the developer? Do you have a 3ds/obj/max format I could use?
-
Aye, formerly Dr_McCoy11 (BCFiles doesn't allow nick change) I'll see if I have it in such format, but you can easily convert it to such formats with milkshape 3d + NIF plugins (can be found on BCfiles in utilities section) ;)
-
but you can easily convert it to such formats
I think that sentence has always scared me. Worst comes to worst though I will. I sincerely thank you for your approval. I'll keep you guys up to date when I have nice progress to show. Shouldn't be too long as my programmer lives and sleeps in C++.
EDIT: I also see you did the Krakow, if you also have those files I'd love it! Your ships appear to be low polygon but use very nice diffuse/specular textures.

Working out great! Thanks Bones! I actually found a 3ds Max .nif importer so the transition was super easy.

Not actually me who did the models :P I dig these ships from the abyss :P but since their hulls looked so cool I slapped new nacelles added some phasers, new textures (transition from TMP-X to late TNG) and voila whole new ships came in ;)

Well, only 3 days into production, here's a teaser of what's done so far:
Notes:
Lots of bugs, lighting errors, shadow problems etc.
Placeholder Earth-Sprite (Today was replaced by a fully done 3d model, not shown in the video)
I used one of the BCFiles starbases as a placeholder. I'll be making one later on.
The flight is really smooth, it's a blast flying her around Bones, thanks! At this pace we'll have a lot done in a week or two :)

Enjoyed the Sobieski flight :) She looked beautiful. And shakycam didn't bother me; not nearly as bad as ST XI.

CoffeeCrazy: love your ship. length? width? trekwriter31@yahoo.ca

Yea, really. I would not mind converting it to BC for you.
