ok i know there are a few threads in Tutorials forum about making registries... tho unfortunately, the step-by-step pics are gone (old threads) and the other one that is there is for 3ds max which i dont have...
i was wondering if maybe someone would be kind enough, and have a few free minutes, to explain step-by-step (for someone with little photoshop knowledge) how to edit a ship's existing registry?
i have some ships i really enjoy having, yet only want to change the name of the ship itself... but unfortunately every time i try and do it, it gets all messed up and i just cant figure it out after all these years :( but i really want to learn how to do it...
or, if someone has some free time and generosity with their assistance, if theyd be willing to explain it to me step-by-step and work with me over WLM someday? or if even possible someone would even be kind enough to possibly edit them for me as a personal favor? they wouldnt be all at once, just a few here and there as time goes by over the next few months as i rebuild my new BC install... if anyone would be kind enough to help me out, please PM me and i would greatly appreciate it...
i understand time is tough these days for everyone, and alot of modders have moved on... but i figured id toss these requests out there all the same...
if anyone can help (either posting a new tutorial, or explaining on WLM to me, or even does them for me) i will be more than generous with cookies and owe a major favor :)
and if a step-by-step explanation is made here at BCC, it will be very useful to others in the future... it's just that the ones we currently have are outdated and it would be nice to have a new one...

I could give it a try. I will be more of an extension of the thread I already created. Is this for making the outline around text? Or just making registries in general?

Jimmy! I'm ashamed! Making requests?! :funny I do agree though, it'd be handy to have.

A little help on ID swapping might help as well.

It definitely wasn't a ship request! People love tutorials.

ID swapping is mainly about how you map your ship. Just have all the parts mapped that you want to swap on the same texture.

what i would like to do is more or less be able to "replace" already existing names/registries...
for example, if i wanted to have 2 or 3 of DJ's Ambassador Class with different names/registries; or if i wanted to use DJ's Ambassador and have the "USS Ambassador NCC-10521" registry on the hull instead of the current name/registry it has... there are a few ships i have i would like to rename on the hull...
i imagine it is very complex and difficult, to "remove" a ships registry/name and then put one on the ship in its place yourself...
it's too bad you cant just like "retype" the text on the ship's hull texture file and have it all done for you lol
and of course, there are ship packs out there with blank textures for people to just put on their own registries; i would like to learn how to do that...
but alot of ships dont come with blank textures so it would be a process of replacing what is there with something you would prefer personally instead...

Y'know, that presents a very neat idea. I wonder how possible it'd be to have something in the mutators that'd let you choose your era/font, prompt for registry number and name, and then slap it on the player ship?
-
well...uhm...I've done this for DJ's Galaxy.....
But it was painstakingly LONG to do it...I had to go through each of the registries for the DJ Galaxy pack, and basically cut out each area of the registry that was bare...then redraw the rest...the results were ok...not the greatest in the world, but it worked out to my benefit...
However if DJ were to make blank registries and post them somewhere and you have to agree to his terms and conditions then that would be cool :P
As for registries themselves...
Scotchy did a tutorial at one point and if I'm not mistaken I still have the PSD of the tutorial...
And Prime: agreed, that would be a neat idea

I tried it once with gmax and it's exactly like with 3dsmax. You only need one of these thirdparty render addons that exist for gmax.
