Hey!
I have been trying to hardpoint a ship of mine, but i find the MPE to be extremely cumbersome to use (the popup when you empty a field drives me crazy). I wonder if there is any way to do this in some other way. Im willing to accept almost anything else.

There's no tool that offers the functionality of MPE. There was a new one under development but I haven't heard from it for a long time. You could also use notepad but hardpointing a ship from scratch will be extremely difficult.
If you just want to change some strength values check out http://www.bcs-tng.com/portal/?q=bcsmc

Using notepad or the like to edit any py files isn't exactly advisable. Try BCUT if MPE is too much for you.

Without MPE, it is just to eEASY to cause an error, and then BC maynot work, but mostly just the ship :banghead:
And tacking it down can be a real pain, so Best if you use MPE.

How very bad. Couldnt one just place all the hardpoints at 0,0,0 and pick out the location in the modelling program and copy the coords into an uncompiled python file? Can you save the hp script uncompiled?
-
The modeling programs coordinates are not the same as those in MPE I believe, plus there is more to consider than just x,y,z position. Also, you can only save uncompiled pys with MPE.

You mentioned having a pop up show up when you empty a field. I typically select the entire contents of the field and rather than deleting the contents I immediately begin to enter my chosen content. Besides that, is there another problem you're having with it?

I've had the popup issue, and it can be very annoying. Enter a minus sign, a zero and then a period and you get a popup each time saying "Please enter a number" or something similar. So you have to hit enter, and rather than just continue typing, you have to click back in the box because MPE has highlighted that whole entry again. Makes entering negative numbers less than 1 a problem. I tended to just start entering the number as a positive and then going back and adding the negative. It's a nitpicky thing, but highly annoying if you're doing a whole bit at once that's on the bottom or starboard side of a ship.
Your best bet is to use MPE and deal with its eccentricities.
