Title: Reverse Intercept
Post by: Locke on August 07, 2010, 05:17:43 AM
I was on BC Files a few moments ago, and was looking at Karronade's Intercept Mod (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Karronades_Accelerated_Intercept;116153).  Admittedly, the description is a bit vague, but it seems to increase the intercept speed when you are traveling to a target.  But it got me to thinking about other scenarios where target and movement are crucial.  What about the opposite of intercepting?  Escape!  I'm sure this is possible, so why not create a mod that would allow you to select a target and warp away from it?  Very useful if you want to get out of combat quickly, but don't want to leave the system.

my nephew taught me a trick, 'in system warp' [of course if warp is not offline]

Though ofcourse you would have to pick a place to go first and not all systems have planets and nav points.

In-system warp is great if you're facing AI, but a competent and intelligent person could circumvent that if need be.

As well as if you're trying to draw an enemy away from the main area of combat, you would want to target the vessel and then run away from IT, not the battle.

this is a damn interesting theory, i think it would use the same script as intercept, but with a few changed values, im not intirely sure though, i mean im no scripter.....

Get Galaxy Charts, gentlemen.

Point your ship so you won't collide with anything (or more accurately, so the warpAI won't have to alter course to avoid anything), go to the helm menu, and press "In-System Warp".

*WHOOSH! BANG!*_- = _-=_(<-these are warp stars)

I also like to warp away, recharge my shields, then point at my target, go to warp and fire a full spread of torpedoes at warp at over 1000km away. It's immensely satisfying. It helps if you change the intercept distance in the warpIntercept.py file from 900 to 50km.
