Title: U.S.S. Enforcer...
Post by: Centurus on August 18, 2010, 05:35:09 PM
I've begun work on my U.S.S. Enforcer, a refit of the TMP Miranda Class.  Right now, not much is different from your regular run of the mill Miranda with the exception of the lack of the concave curve on the bottom of the saucer.  As the ship is more fleshed out, the differences will be noticeable.

good start got the basic shape down. I dont think anyone has ever done a modified miranda with the exception of that bassmaster ol buzz did so many years ago

Decided to do the phaser placement and also clean up polys on the saucer as well.

cool!  i dont think ive ever seen a Miranda-style ship with phaser arrays rather than just the phaser banks they all usually have...

This Miranda refit will, hopefully, pack quite a punch.  Work is going slowly cause I'm looking over several references to see what details I should add, and what I can do without.

I've been collecting Mirandas, and have two variants.  both of them sport modified galaxy type nacelles.  had you gotten up to the point of what engines you were gonna put on, yet?
Title: Re: U.S.S. Enforcer...
Post by: Centurus on August 19, 2010, 08:05:47 AM
Definitely not Galaxy nacelles.  When I think of a Miranda with Galaxy nacelles, I think of the old Bassmaster made for Ol' Buzzard of the 9th fleet, of which I used to be an officer in.

Anyway, the nacelles I intend to use will be a modification of the nacelles I'm using on my U.S.S. Resurrection model, but with a different bussard design.  I like trying to mix newer tech while still keeping true to the design of the ship, changing only where I deem necessary.

Ok, I've been kinda busy today taking care of a very sick cat of mine.  But I figured I might as well post some images with lighting applied and with the warp engines I intend to use on the ship.  You can also see some very basic vent intakes, or whatever they are, that are normally found on a Miranda Class.  Gotta work on their detail still.

For those of you that are wondering, I will be doing away with the traditional torpedo pod and mega phasers.  Instead, the Enforcer will have twin weapons pods on either side of the rollbar.  Each pod will have a pulse phaser emitter and micro quantum and photon torpedo tubes facing forward, and a pulse phaser emitter and micro photon torpedo launcher facing aft.  In place of the old torpedo pod will be a deflector dish pod.  The ship will also have twin, mini deflector dishes as well mounted on the top of the hull, towards the aft, on either side of the bridge.

Started on the twin mini deflectors, and the details that go around them.  Not finished yet.  I know alot of people are not gonna like what they see, but hey, this is my ship, and I like it.  :-D

*takes a bow*  Thanks.  I've been wanting to see if I can do this ship, almost as much as I wanted to redo the Resurrection.  Speaking of which, I'm gonna need to track down my mapper and see what's going on.

Yowza dude, that mesh is starting to look really gorgeous! Those are the sharpest TMP nacelles I've seen in a long while, and I'm especially liking the (bussard?) area!
Title: Re: U.S.S. Enforcer...

TMP revamped to TNG nacelles, without altering the design radically.  Yes, those are bussards.

Some more updates to the model.  I've finished making the little details behind the new twin deflector assemblies.  I've also meshed in the shuttlebays.  Like I said, I am only gonna change things where I deem necessary, and the traditional two shuttlebays in the Miranda class is something that shouldn't be changed, in my opinion anyway.

EDIT:

Forgot to add the pics.

Another update:

I've made the pylons.  I like how they are.  I know some might think that there's something mission where the pylons meet the warp engines.  I haven't made the connecting warp joint yet, so I just wanted people to know that.

Wiley, please do.  I would never tackle a canon ship, at least not until my modeling skills improve even more.  But I've seen your work, I want to see a Reliant model from you.

Marky, thanks.  I've been really trying my best to make this a practical, yet tasteful upgrade to the Miranda class.

To everyone who's given me cookies, thanks.  I went to bed with 25 cookies, now I have 31.  Never seen the count go that high for me so fast.

I've already built one, but it wouldn't hurt to make a better one. :) I would say the tricky bits for the Miranda class is the engineering hull being flush with the saucer rim and making the upper torpedo bay rollbar.

Are you going to do a TNG color scheme or have you thought about it yet?
Title: Re: U.S.S. Enforcer...
Post by: Centurus on August 21, 2010, 11:03:18 PM
I want a TNG color scheme.  However, I won't be doing the texturing, since I can't texture.  I might need help with mapping the warp engines.  The rest of the ship I'm fairly certain I can map myself more or less.
Title: Re: U.S.S. Enforcer...
Post by: Centurus on August 21, 2010, 11:06:35 PM
Oh, and what you said about getting the saucer and engineering hull flush, yeah, that is a pain.  Mine isn't completely flush, but it's close enough so where I can get away with it.  I'm gonna keep the saucer and aft hull separate objects.  Originally I was gonna weld them together, but something told me that would make things more complicated when it came time for mapping.

Thanks to MeteoraFallen again, I've got impulse engines.  While I would have loved to make the impulse engines exactly as he had designed them, I couldn't.  I'm not quite good enough.  However, I do like what I did come up with, and since the design I went with is very much based on his rough concept sketches, credit goes to him for helping design them.

Here are some renders of the impulse engines.  I added that impulse dome that's traditional of ships this old.

I love it! I've always liked the Miranda class and it's variants; is this going to be simply another Miranda variant, or a refit, with it's own variants? (I.e. without rollbar, auxilliary impulse in place of aft torpedo tubes etc.)

Anyway I love this refit, as well as some of the older details showing through from the old ship; a very clear evolution over the ships used for near-on 100 years; which, in my opinion desperately needs a refit!
Title: Re: U.S.S. Enforcer...
Post by: Centurus on August 22, 2010, 11:59:50 AM
I intend on just making the Miranda refit.  However, since I started out as a kitbasher myself, if this ship is released, and by if I mean should I get the help needed to finish her off once I've finished the mesh, then anyone who wants to use this ship as a basis for variants and kitbashes, can do so, after seeking permissions from me of course.

Just a slight update.

I've made the tractor beams that are located on either side of each shuttlebay, and I've redone the ventral saucer phasers to account for line of sight due to the warp engines.

I'm currently trying to think of a design for that part of the ship that runs from the bridge to the impulse engines, although, to be honest, I'm not sure if I should even include that on this model.

Sorry, no renders right now, my mom's on the main computer, and that's where I have all my model files.  If I had a place to work with my laptop, I'd be working on the ship right now.

Ok, new renders available.  I've built the bridge, and in the renders you can see the tractor beams on either side of each shuttlebay, as well as the redesigned ventral saucer phasers.

Me again.  Got into the mood, and did some more work on the ship over the last couple of days or so.  Before you guys get your hopes up, I haven't done that much.

Anyway, in the images below, you can see that I've gotten around to making the main deflector pod.  I know it's plain looking, but I kinda like it, and to a degree, it's keeping in line with how I made the mini deflectors.  The aft I couldn't think much to do with, so I gave it some segments and tapered it down.  Maybe when and IF textures are done for this ship, maybe the ship's name and registry or maybe just the registry, or maybe the Starfleet Insignia can go there.  Don't know.

Also, as you can see, I made that ventral dome/hatch, whatever it is.  The ship felt naked without it.

Post by: Locke on September 10, 2010, 03:18:42 AM
I quite like the pod!  Although I see the direction it is going (nacelle parts connecting over with pylons), and I would suggest a newer approach.  Perhaps a pylon coming up from the center of the ship . . .

Na.  I'm gonna stick with the traditional rollbar.  However, I still need to figure out how to make the weapons pods the way I want them.  It's gonna be tricky.

I wonder if I should report that last post or not....honestly, thinking about it.

Anyway, I've been meaning to do some work on this ship for a while, but I haven't really had much of a chance.  I'm still stuck on the weapons pods.  I can't think of anything that I really like, and because of that, I might just go ahead and make New Orleans type weapons pods.  Honestly, haven't decided.

Once the weapons pods are done, the rest is minor stuff that I can knock out in a couple hours, and then she'll be finished, modelwise anyway.

The old mega phasers are going to be replaced with twin weapons pods, housing micro torpedo launchers and pulse phasers.

I think Cent means that the center pod, which was the torpedo pod in the Reliant, will house a deflector, and the side pods, which were phaser emitters in the Reliant, will be torpedo/pulse phaser pods.

ahh I got ya now. And for some reason I was getting a mental image of the wrong pod (thinking springfield instead). Honestly I don't know how well those would look, however, if you stacked them, one over the bar, one directly under, that might look rather good. It wont be pretty, but we've seen not so pretty things added to reliant shaped vessels before, such as the Soyuz-class and countless non-canon bashes so it atleast wont be "radical'

you should take a look at bcfiles chimera 1.0 http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Chimera;15997. I realise thats a torpedo pod but your deflector pod could use some more..I dunno..sleekness? It just doesn't seem to fit the rest of it. I like how you've done the weapons pods though, defenetly different. Saw the refit connie too, also looks nice.

I wouldn't really call that a "deflector" It looks just like an ordinary weapons pod, but fatter.

Sorry to say, it looks less "sleek" than what I built, mainly because it's more bulky, and I think is just a Miranda torpedo pod pushed in from the sides, making it bulky.

She's nearing completion.  I've gone over every area of the model, thinking over what else needs to be made that can't be done by textures.  To the best of my ability, the only thing left are the launchers and pulse phaser emitters themselves that go in the twin weapons pods, and maybe a hatch or two on the rim of the saucer for docking purposes.  If anyone can think of anything that I've missed, let me know and I'll review it.

In this update, I've finished the phaser array coverage on the ship.  There are now phasers on the top rollbar to provide dorsal aft coverage, and phasers on the pylons for when an enemy sucker punches the ship from the side.  Also, I've made a sensor dome.
