Title: Setting up games
Post by: perrinej on August 31, 2010, 03:13:34 AM
Hey, i recently installed Star trek Bridge commander again, and was told to use the new KM 2009.12 and then the 2010. what ever update....and its has worked, but it seems no one is ever on...and when they are its people using the km 1.0 version so i am unable to play with them.

IS there any way or site or link or what ever that people are able to form coordinated games with each other so they have some one to play with.
because playing the quick battle mode is fun and all but i like some interaction too.

thanks for any help

Then you have to get yourself KM1.0 as it's different thing, KM 2009 is new version, you can getit from KM forums ;)

what makes it different? isnt the 2009 just a new updated version?

everything :) starting with hardpoints, ships etc. it's all about ships and scripts, if they have even slightest differences in hardpoints or scripts you will get file missmatch error during joining server and that's it :) you need to make a clean KM 1.0 install to be able to play online.

so your suggesting i remove the km 2009 version and install the km 1.0 instead

no, you can always keep 2009 and simply make another install with KM1.0, I have 5 installs ATM, KM1.0 for online play, KM 2009 for fun, custom BC for modding, clean BC with foundation and NanoFX for testing and BC with BSG ship pack ;)

people should really start using KM 2009 + not only for QB but for online play as well... it has many fixes.

Too true :) I would be happy to replace old KM with 2009 but I guess it just a matter of people fear about too much stuff loaded into KM 2009 (which is ridiculous to me as I noticed it's far more stable than 1.0) and as a fairly new mod it's meant for high-end rigs...

it could very well be that alot of people arent aware of the latest versions...  i know FF has issues hosting it, but perhaps a general announcement of it in BCFiles news might be a good idea?  or even in FF forums perhaps...
or just take KM 1.0 out completely so people arent downloading it anymore...

You mean like  this one (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/news/Kobayashi_Maru_200912_Beta_Available;45181)?  :)
If people didn't get it before there's no guarantee they will now...

how about making a download page for it like for any other mods and simply put there a redirecting link, I remember some mods from WZ were redirected to DRS shortly before he pulled them off the BCF... or am I confused ?

yea i agree that it should be posted a few more places. When i was looking around i knew i needed to download the patch before doing any thing, but i had to ask around a lot to figure out what to download...and i guess that wasnt even good enough....

if i copy the clean files then install the km1.0 to those files while still having another copy of the BC 2009 version, how do i switch between the two file groups?

also one of my other questions havent been answered. are there any forums or groups or websites that have people who get together to form multiplayer game schedules.

'course, some of us have graphics cards that can't hack the 09 versions at all.

you make shortcuts to the individual exe files in the sep folders... or you just click on the exe files in the folders.
clicking on the exe in the km 1.0 install will load km 1.0
clicking on the exe in the km 2009 install will load 2009

and to answer your question about groups

umm between KM 1.0 and 2009 90% of the gfx hasn't changed... only a few ships have been updated but they aren't a big jump from the previous ones.

You do this by creating a second shortcut ofcourse. And don't forget to install the 2k10 patch over it first.

You're already here. Though you can try your luck with the other sites listed at the bottom of the main page.

the exe file... it is located in the root BC directory..("C:\whatever\activision\bridgecommander") it should read like this "stbc.exe" or just "stbc" if you don't have file extensions showing... also another hint it has an icon with the fed symbol and BC in front.
