Well, i am relatively new to modelling and general modding for BC,

Firstly, I need a second opinion on my ship model, it isn`t fully faced but i was thinking since it is going to be my first ship why not get help, because personally i think the top could have been better but you know, all good things come with time.
O, and the ship is based on The Voth Science Ship for the VOY episode "Distant Origin",

~had few issues with bottom because of no actual decent shots but hopefully i got a good approximation on it

Preferably someone with experience with making models.

 Pics for ya
-
I'm no expert at all when it comes to modelling but I can say the mesh has tons of errors (smoothing errors) and it looks like you could use some spare polys but then again I'm no expert... besides I have to google for the pics of the actual Voth ship cuz I hear the bells ringing yet I can't recall how it looked like :P

Nice work for a starter ;) keep it up
-
Even before you replied I had decided that it wasn`t up to my standards because well i am my own worst critic, but thanks anyway. here is what I have managed to do so far,

~the Top 2,I have gaps in because there the either areas where the hull goes into or areas where the hull is going out(basically i am doing layer by layer, so to speak)

~The Bottom 1,I have high lightened the selected faces to show you what I might re-do.
O and here`s what i am modelling it on.

-
seems like youve chosen a very hard ship to model

-
here's a full schematic of the class, including the bottom:

-
Wrong ship Aces, that's the USS Relativity, he is modelling the Voth science ship. As JTK said, you did choose to model a ship with a difficult shape, tho, not as difficult to pull of than the Relativity herself.

-
Yeah, I suppose its a hard ship to model but you gotta start somewhere and since I like the Voth and it hasn't been done before I thought what the heck why not, any way you should see what I got lined up, the biggest ship ever seen in star trek!!

Basically its the Voth City ship (9.8km long at last estimate) so yeah I got big plans for the modelling side of things.
 +
On top of that I was thinking of proposing a idea to whoever will take this idea on, , which is to create a tractor beam which is capable of disabling everything on a ship as long as it is Active(to go along with the Voth city ship which was capable of disabling everything aboard Voyager, but also to be put out as a handy mod for whomever wants it)

P.S if anyone can actually find a schematic of the bottom of the Voth science ship, then that would be highly appreciated because currently I am using the Turei (Below) ship from the VOY episode Dragon's Teeth(roughly same ship, had to edit it due to the darker side of hull) to do the bottom sections.
 If so please PM me.

The Voth city ship isn't the biggest in trek, V'ger is (at 98km's) and the Whale Probe (74km). The Dyson Sphere takes the biggest of all sci-fi award, but it isn't a ship after all :P
-
whoops, my bad, let me see if I can dig up some diagrams of that

 here you go:
-
ACES, I have all the necessary info and schematics for the Voth City Ship what I need is a schematic or decent picture of the Voth Science Ship, which i am currently modelling but thanks for ya effort anyway.

-
				d'oh!

Once again, I need to remind myself to read the whole post before contributing :banghead:

Unfortunatly, I haven't had any more luck finding that one's ventral view either.

Look at trekcore for screens from the ep, or if you have the ep itself, screenie away (that's what I do on a regular basis since a lot of schems you can find on the net are wrong atleast somewhere), I think the bottom was shown IIRC in the ep itself, been a while since I watched it.

Screencaps from the ep itself (http://voy.trekcore.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=53), if you can't get to the gallery straight from the link: Voyager Season 3 screencaps page 4.
-
				thnx for the effort ACES.

Adonis, I have already been in the gallery and checked out all the pictures and there isn't any decent pictures there so, yeah I was thinking of watching the episode and trying to identify the best point to take the SS(screen shot) but even if i do, i foresee a further problem which is I have no experience what so ever in making a schematic.
Basically I`m in a rather big hole in which there is no ladder, and don't know what to do!

There arent any bottom pics on trekcore as i tried to find them for when we do the voth science ship for the DQP. Think artistic license will have to be the way to finish it off the bottom.

Ah yeah the DQP, I was the one a while back who asked about the Voth city and science ship, but I decided not to wait because
 1) I have no idea as to when a huge pack will be complete and I wont ask because its just well...rude
 2) I thought what the heck its a challenge to learn something like modelling so why not 'live a little'.

Hope you don't mind if I do it for now but in worst case scenario it turns out to be absolutely rubbish then you guys can just make it to your exacting standards.
-
If you study the one where the bottom can be remotely seen then you can extrapolate how it looks like.

-
Iv tried to get a decent view of the bottom of the Voth science ship but no luck so far... but I`ll keep looking.

On the modelling sides of things, I am having a bit of a problem with the highlighted areas. to any experienced modeller this would be simple to figure out but since i am not a experienced modeller, a little guidance would be appreciated on the matter and i aint don't usually ask for help but in this instance it is needed

 Problem below

-
The pictures you're posting are too small to be useful.  Could you post images in the 1024x800 range.  Maybe I can offer some suggestions.

-
Cut them out using the technique my friend FoaS explains here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y-6bFHQp-o).

-
I've been using that method ever since he posted that.  No more shapemerge for me!

-
DJ Curtis: sorry about the small pictures but i don`t usually change the sizes unless it for the schematics in which i do, but anyway since you asked here you go. Attached below.

Adonis: thanks for the link this will come in handy later on, because recently i purchased 3ds max and it is considerably more complicated than milkshape but i am sure a lot more effective, so i now intend to get familiar with it- which will hopefully not take to  long but hey, learning is usually a long process but hopefully i should pick it up like i do with most things and know what to do pretty soon.

EDIT Deleted the rubbish pics because there rubbish.
-
Dude, I think he mean that he needs bigger teplates, with higher resolution, not to scale them up from around 400*300 to 1280x800. Search the internet for better teplates :)

Ugh...Milkshape...it's a POS prog. Once you get to know Max you'll forget MSh ever existed :D Both me and DJ use it.

You forgot me :funny I use 3ds Max too :D
-
Vladko1: i know what he wants but currently i am pre-occupied with trying to learn 3ds max, i am more concerned about the modelling side of things at the moment:1) because i dont want a cruddy, piece of **** model, i want my first BC ship to be pretty decent and anyway i do tend to look at a model and go that`s all right and then go naa i can be better, bad habit of mine.
2)to be honest he can look for images on his own.(not trying to be rude or but you aint 2 years old)

Adonis: originally when i decided to get into modelling i thought to myself why not start from the bottom and work my way up, but a short way into modelling this ship i realised that milkshape 3d is just not suitable for the way i want to model (because of my habit to try and make it perfect.)

So there you go for now i am going to go through the included tutorials with 3ds to get hopefully a overview of how to use 3ds, but will probably have to start really small. BUT BE ASSURED I WONT GIVE UP!

Never do give up. You can do wonders in max once you get to know it. I originally started out with shuttles and stuff and worked my way from there. If you have questions, feel free to ask me.
-
thnx for the support but as some of you will know next week is a important part of my life  because of exams , so therefore i will not have nearly as much time to learn 3ds or do any real sort of modding on any game(shame because i enjoy it so much  :()
but like arnold schwarzenegger said in TERMINATOR, "I`ll be back!" :funny jokes :D
