...seems you can see through a starship's hull!
-
Whoa. I want to say 25th Century Galaxy, judging by its similar appearance to the Eclipse, with partially modeled interior?
-
yes finaly, someone did it.
I had the idea for this a while back, BC's damage system can make this look SOOOOO cool ;D
-
Partially modeled? I'd say quite a bit of that interior is modeled. And I'd agree, looks 25th century Galaxy-ish.
-
Peek-A-Boo, I see through you,, :D
Looks like a variant of the TNG Cruiser you came up with recently to me. Love the interior detail. Awesome
EDIT: Meant to say a variant of your TNG Frigate. got mixed up.
-
Awesome! If I may be so bold as to suggest a rendered flyby on youtube? I can't wait to see this implemented...
-
:salute3:
Simply awsome, can not wait to see the other orthos
-
at the risk of getting stoned or flogged, what is this for?
sorry :(
-
Why, BC, of course!

i gathered that much, but for what in specific? lol *feeling even more dumb now thanks :P*

So the ship's an early 2360's vessel. A small, general purpose ship that is probably a progenitor of the intrepid. Early idea for back-story is that the ship is a very limited run craft; something too small for Starfleet's tastes during a time when big multimission class ships were the thing.
So what I've done is model enough of the interior to basically look realistic through the windows. To be honest, I don't know how it will look when finished, but it's really an experiment more than anything. It started when I was trying to find a way of making the windows on the ship look ultra realistic. On an old ship of mine, I did this same technique, but on a much smaller scale.
Everything is also a single unified mesh, so it should damage cleanly.
Some pix.

..and just as a little historical aside, this ship, at least it's first bones, is eight years old. One of the very first ships I tried to create. i was surfing through some of my old 3ds max scenes just looking at old stuff when I came across the ship you see in the picture. I liked the shape of secondary hull and decided to just roll with it.
So I think a few dozen vertexes are original.
-
looks simiular in size to the New Orleans class. :D
I like
-
Ah, so a mini Galaxy. Neat!
-
Hmm, so I was way off with my first guess. Should have realized the rooms would've been too big for a Galaxy sized ship.
That said, I like where it's going, but I think the pylons/secondary hull interface area could use some more uniqueness. Your original eight year old concept has the pylons up top, not along the center-line. Few ships go that route. I think it would be a cool idea. Though, if you're dead set on that model already, I guess it's not worth a change then.

I still fly the Juno quite a bit in my install when I play, the chairs and seats inside stand out when you watch it fly by, nice illusion. :)
The Decade Class by cliperkins, is the only other ship that I know of that has the interior at the extent you are going for. I really like how he did it, but it looks very empty inside. I would suggest maybe adding dark windows on the textures to give it a more broken up pattern to the lit rooms. You probably got that planned anyway.
I'm sorry, but personally have to disagree with you Farshot, I really like the design as is. It reminds me alot of a Nova Class with a Galaxy design lineage to it.
Nice so far.

If you really wanted to go all out... you could model in the plasma injectors in the warp engines and model in the grills on the engines. :P
-
Even better, model the captain in the ready room. :P
-
Awesome work, as usual DJ! I love modeled interiors. Haven't ever played with them in BC though (aside from the arboretum on the Constitution refit, that is).
-
The ship is cute- a baby Galaxy-class? Any "easter eggs" planned for some of the interiors?
-
oh question could this be done for the entire nacelle?

That's like asking if he's a dad :P
Good work on this DJ :) Can't wait to see more

Definitely will be interesting how well it will be in-game... Any chance you can export what you have so far and try damaging it in-game and post pics of the results as I'm quite intrigued :)

yk, Eclipse just gave me an idea. one ep of TNG had the Ent D get invaded by something that made the D lay a tech egg. since this looks like a mini gal, mabey he can throw in a joke about that.
btw how about "magellanic" class?

IIRC The Enterprise had became sentient for a period of time and gave birth...

Magellanic...eh not so much.
