Title: What is the Mass and Rotational Inertia in a ship's hardpoint?
Post by: DMWalsh79 on October 05, 2011, 06:20:16 PM
So messing around with BCUT in the Hardpoint Tweaking area and I noticed in the Ship Property Tab it has Mass and Rotational Inertia listed.  What is that?  The ship I was tweaking had a Mass of 20.000000 and Rotational Inertia of 200.000000.  What do changing those values do?

im not 100% this is just my theory:

MASS... would be exactly that, by definition, the weight of the ship

Rotational Inertia... i THINK involves the amount of force that the ship exerts to turn and corner... or something like that... wich can also create a realistic "drifting" effect where the ship dosnt immediately stop after a rotation on a given axis
(someone correct me if im wrong on the RI)

i know that dropping the mass and upping the RI makes a ship turn, rotate, and just faster in general, and vice versa.

Would I be correct in making the supposition then that if I lowered either number that it would increase the maneuverability?

heh my first co mod for BC was messing around with these values on Stock +modded BC scripts. They also affect the ships dead hulk when killed XD (was meant to give more realism.) though this isn't really needed now thx to Nano FX.
