Hi People,
For a while I've been busy retexturing the Excelsior Bridge LCARS. The timeframe for this bridge set is around about the time of First Contact to Late/Post DS9. I've been asked to retexture all the control interfaces on the bridge and then animate them. The other bridge textures were created created by Jesse a while back and I think they're all pretty darn good!!.
So I've retextured most of the LCARS Interfaces and once that is complete, I'll move onto animating the Tga Files. So without further ado the Pics, Hope you all like...

absolutely amazing!!! :)
-
very nice, looks very 24th century.
-
O M G that looks nice
-
Thought id post some shots of the model improvements, ignore the blue nemesis lcars - Glenn is still working on his so i still have the old ones as place holders.
So far i have done the following:
- 1: Modelled spot lights into the ceiling rim, which turn red at red alert
- 2: Removed the Coffee Table
- 3: Replaced the captains chair with a more modern one
- 4: Added a ships plaque on the right hand side of the bridge
- 5: Added a medkit to the left hand side of the bridge
- 6: new lightmaps for captains chair, medical kit, plaque, and carpet (carpet lm is massively improved)
- 7: Added new MSD based on Jose Ralats lakota MSD
- 8: Optimised texture usage, reduced texture cost by about 50mb
- 9: Reshaped ceiling dome
-
Excellent :D
I have to say that is a pretty sexy captain's chair Mark.
I love it, whats happened with the lighting, it looks great.
Oh and on a small side note, is that a glitch in the light panel to the bottom left of Miguel's feet?
-
i was playing in windowed mode with no render filters
-
Awesome bridge. It doesn't look like an Excelsior Bridge anymore, nor does it look like a Sovereign Bridge. Assuming this would be a refitted bridge for the late TNG era Excelsiors, Lakota etc?
Great job nonetheless :D
-
I feel sorry for the crew. I always thought the original Excelsior chairs looked very uncomfy. I suggest you do new models for the crew chairs.
Anyway, looks awesome.
-
- 2: Removed the Coffee Table
Lol. poor Sulu.
This looks amazing Mark, I never used to pay much attention to the bridges when playing (being HP oriented), but I'm going to have fun walking around this one.

I assume you will be willing to redo all the animations too then
forgot 1 pic earlier.

Ive gotta learn todo animations sometime!
-
Wow looks astonishing, great to see that the coffee table is gone i always though that seemed out of place, it looks like this bridge could double as an akira bridge too maybee if the textures were more chrome that brown, But it looks good..
If you guys would like a dedication plaque id be happpy to draw a custom one for you, Im pretty good at it: heres one i've done for the USS Excalibur
-
I always considered, the coffee table, as you move it in as needed, not really a permanent fixture.
-
rob: thanks but I already drew a custom one
-
rob: thanks but I already drew a custom one
what program did you use to make that?
-
my usual - Macromedia Fireworks and Adobe Photoshop for the lighting effects.
-

forgot 1 pic earlier.
So you can't just make the back of the chair model taller without it screwing up the animations?
-
hard to say, in theory tht would work - but this is 3ds max 3 we are talking about - the thing isnt exactly predictable.
besides smeg wanted the chairs remodelling, thats a bit of a different story.

If I could make up some new chair models in Milkshape and export them to a format that 3Ds 3 could use, would you at least consider it?
-
no, i already have chair models that are of equal quality to the captains chair - but as i said above raising the back on the exsisting chair (which i will try) is a completly different thing to replacing the chairs all together...
Im sorry but your going to have to live with what is there, why do you guys never understand that we have to draw a line at some point? there are always more bridges to work on, but theres always someone who wants us to keep working on the same model. Its frustrating because it makes me feel like the work we have done is not good enough some how.
-
Not aiming to "brown-nose", but Mark... you and the 3rd era team are doing a bang-up job with this "old gal", in terms of bridges. I suggest you keep pumping out new bridges for as long as you have the strength to work on this game :D
And those who don't like the existing stuff, or the stuff that gets released by the time I say this: Make it yourself :D
-

Dont think like that because its a load of crap, 3E have created mods that people have said are impossible to do, if that isnt good enough, what is?...
-
*hugs mark*
-
look guys im not asking for a group hug here , and im definatly not trying to demonise supersmeg - i fully understand his position, but at the end of the day we only have a finite amount of time each day for modding.
Lets get back on topic

*chucks beer and naked babes onto mark*
Looks sweet missed this topic while I repaired this pc, but nice work :D
-
Love the weapons locker on the wall - nice touch! Might that serve a purpose in a certain mod by a certain Jedi? ;)
-
its a medical locker, and no it will actually be a problem when it comes to immersion since it needs to be seperate to the bridge object - but thats not really a big deal since we can just edit the model and seperate them.
-
Now this is what I call a bridge..... Guess I better go dig up an Excelsior refit in anticipation...
General question is the ship diagram LCARS on the back wall going to be animated or static :?:
-
Its static, for some reason im preferring static MSDs at the moment, since they dont often appear animated on screen.
BTW the MSD is based on work by jose ralat of okudagrams.com, wouldnt be fair to talk about the msd without mentioning that.
-
Its more of an homage to the show if they are static, as the real things are back-lit graphics.
-
A quick update on those LCARS textures,
I've completed the Helm/Tactical station as well as the Rear Wall Communications & Life Support stations. I think they're looking good but any "constructive" criticism is appreciated!!. Next up is Miguel's Science Station, which I started last night. That will be the last station that needs texturing, after that It's on too the animations!!. :D
Btw, full credit to Mark on modding the Captains Chair, as you can see by the Screenies it looks frickin good!!
Enjoy the Pics,
Glenn :)
(full credit to TiM for the chairs, he made the original meshes and textures)
-
 damn thats awesome!!
-
Purdy!! just one thing wheres the semi nude babes :D
-
No criticism necessary Glenn, its all spectacular work.
-
I have some critism :arms: :hide.
You know those red alert flashers in the centers of those screens, they are kind of large, shouldn't they suppose to be much thinner?
G.

I suppose they could be a little thinner, but in my opinion they would look too similar to the TMP Excelsior Red Alert Lighting, considering this is a refit it's something I would like to keep away from. But I'll have a tinker with it to see if I can come up with some better. Thanks for your input Gamesfunk!!
Glenn :)

Ok, Last update for today,
An extreme close-up of Miguel's Science station. Top right LCARS by Jose Ralat.
-
very nice!!! i cannot wait to have this in my install! :)
-
This looks great Glenn :)
-
We need new smilies here because theres nothing in the present lot that discribes how fricken awesome this is looking. 10/10!!!
Will it be addable (is that even a word? :P) as a seperate bridge? As much as Im loving this retexture, I still love the original bridge and would hate for anything to overwrite it.
-
I have to say the LCARS is looking fantastic, the arrangement and how canon the look and colour scheme is like nothing since the Nemesis Sovvie bridge.

At the moment it will be a seperate bridge, It also shouldn't interfere with any previous installs. :D

Glad you like, she's not finished yet though. Watch this Space!!.
-
Here's an update for you lovely people!!
I've finished texturing all the consoles for this bridge, I now have the job of animating these textures (yawn!!). It's definitely the worst part about bridge modding but I'll do my best for you folks. :D
Enjoy the Pics...
Glenn
-
absolutely outstanding work!!! what a beautiful job youve done on the bridge! :)
-
Stunning work! Very well done!
G.
-
OH, that's good
:D
-
Awesome Glenn, now you need to have a go at THAT bridge which you know which is ;)
-
Nice Glenn, I have only one (constructive) criticism and that's with the higher bank of LCARS.
You have them as interactive rather than just displays, but they would not be in easy reach without a ladder.
Maybe turn them into schematic or subsystem status displays that are permanently on and would not need direct screen presses?
Edit: Or it could be just the perspective, brex is sat down on the first pic I suppose, so could be ok to reach stud up.
For shorter crew members it may be a little tricky tho.
-
You have a point el, but this is just a little training excercise. It is something to keep in mind for future glenn.

Thanks for the heads up El,
I can see what you mean about the LCARS screens being too high, I'll keep it in mind for any future bridge project. The LCARS Buttons are used to switch between displays on the Status Monitor's, however they can also be operated and changed by buttons on the main LCARS console where the user would sit.
Good question though Elminster, unfortunately I don't have time to change them now as I've already began animating the displays. But I will keep them "slightly" more static in appearance, perhaps they could be standby controls to the status displays!? :?

Sounds like a plan, maybe useful if the grav plating fails

Got it in one!! lol
-
looks fabulous. cant wait to see this one on my screen. i was wondering if you'll have any of the Lcars which switch to Red when you go to red alert, like we saw in that intrepid that was released not too long ago?
-
Nope, these textures are animated unlike the intrepid LCARs - we cant swap animated textures.
-
ah ic. was that something you guys are working on for the next release of BP?? cause i noticed you happened to include Red Alert Lcars for the rear consoles of the LTNG Galaxy bridge, which are not currently used.
-
sorry, its a limitation of the map swapping function - nothing we can do there.
-
Good job on the bridge. It looks more like that Excelsior had a facelift since the time the USS Enterprie (NCC-1701-B) was launched in 2293. I look forward seeing this bridge complete. Keep up the excellent job :D
-
When would it be possible to see the release of this bridge?
Hopefully May 2007, so it can be included into the final version of Kobayashi Maru (at least the rumour goes, that this will be the final version of the mod).
-
Im putting the bridges in KM1.0, this is already included.
-
but will it also be a separate release?
-
Sorry for the awful quality of the following shots, they were taken from a 1996 interactive movie game called Star Trek: Borg. The game was set aboard the USS Righteous, an Excelsior class ship "destroyed" at the battle of Wolf359. The storyline is complex and irrelevant to this thread, but these shots show a mid-TNG Excelsior bridge.
Not suggesting you use them for reference, as it has not been unusual to see two similar ships with entirely different bridges (Enterprise-D and Odessey, for example). Just thought I'd post them out of interest, TechTrekker reminded me of them.
-
I had forgotten about that game I have it stuffed away somewhere. I guess that would make for a canon style bridge. It also had additional shots of the bridge security console (if I'm not mistaken) along with engineering and other areas of the ship.
Well the coffee tables gone thank goodness but the crew chairs always seemed like they'd snap someones back if they took a really good hit.... :x
None the less I still can't wait to see this bridge in game....

Amazing, looks like they changed the helm, the red alert bars, and the lcars... weve changed stuff a bit more, but our LCARs are pretty similar to that.
Nice find
-
Indeed, great find.
-
Mind you, that was a redress of the set built for "Flashback," which itself had its differences from the Excelsior bridge seen in TUC.
-
Glad to be of service :)
-
wow...that TNG Excelsior bridge is hot! I love it. And it almost matches that bridge from Star Trek: Borg.
-
Hi! I'm new here and I'd just like to say that I'm really excited about this bridge. Thank you and great job!
-
welcome ghost.
Completely forgot about that redress st: borg bridge... great game, especialy funny if you asked Q to speak about the Vulcans
-
Haha! I like when you keep pestering Q about the Borg. "A Borg is a Borg is a Borg! Seen one, seen em' all!" :D
-
I liked it when Q was a Borg lol and dared you to try to shoot him... I fired gladly :P anyone care to guess the effect it had on an omnipotent Borg?
-
guys - can we please go back ontopic :)
thx
-
Ah right, sry Jimmy!
Ahem - BLOODY GOOD EXCELSIOR REFIT BRIDGE!!! anything more need saying?
-
ive re-rendered the floor lightmap using VRAY..
IMAGE REMOVED due to crediting
-
Nice work No1, looks excellent!! 8)
-
wow! very nice!! :)
-
very nice
-
Great new floor. Vray makes our lives so much easier and still looks better. :arms:
-
I have always liked the USS Righteous bridge, beccause it fits in so well with Sulu's USS Excelsior or the Enterprise B. The one bridge that might be interesting would be the Excelsior from Star Trek 3.
-
...The one bridge that might be interesting would be the Excelsior from Star Trek 3.
that would be interesting to have, or even the refitted enterprise bridge from Star Trek 1-4.
