Title: Prometheus
Post by: Tally on December 25, 2011, 05:47:00 AM
Cannot wait for this....anyone who's been living under a rock its Ridley Scotts (loose) prequel to Alien....should explain the origins of the fossilized space jockey and hopefully the xenomorphs we've all come to fear

Oops didn't see this over on other board and can't delete....Doh!!

probably the most mysterious ship and race I ever seen, I hope Scott won't spoil it ;)

xenomorphs will be there for shure, they were in stasis all along on that ship

My only wish to the producers of both titles - please don't turn 'em into yet another AVP  ... I think I don't have to remind anyone of AVP : Requiem or AVP (the game) those didn't turn out well or at least didn't live up to even smallest expectations (at least mine)

Well, considering it's Ridley Scott, who created the first Alien, it's bound to be pretty good.  He also made Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, and Black Hawk Down, all damn good movies. ;)

Post by: Bones on December 26, 2011, 04:40:25 AM
yeah but remember what good old Forest said - 'shit happens' ;)

This series didn't get a proper movie since Alien 3, to be honest it was a perfect conclusion for Ripley's story ... and then they had to ruin it completely with that stupid resurrection thing not to mention those two mix ups of Alien and Predator movies.

Please mr. Scott make it an oldschool sci-fi horror or at least oldschool action-thriller (like first two Alien movies) :)

Yes Bones the look and feel of the movie is very much like the very first one.(very dark and horror movie-ish)

New US and International trailers.

Theres several spots where you have to pause/playback a few times to catch some interesting things.

0:14/0:18 A flashback to a long time ago?
1:05 Maybe reused from AVP?
1:30 Its hard to tell what "they" are but it seems kind web like.
1:35 Facehugger?
1:38 Looks like what will eventually be the queen to me.
2:00 Acid splash.
2:16 Space Jokey without the suit? Proto-xeno?

1:52 Tiny Worm thing going into dudes eye. Also note the pitch black pupils.
2:05 Worm like thing going through someonessuit into their arm.
2:06 Space Jokey? Infected crew member?

Oh nooooo ... they're going to Earth ... OMG aliens gonna attack Earth !

... seriously ? do they always have to plan attackon Earth ??? Isn't it the cheapest plot available that has been overused over so many years that I can't even name all the movies with bad aliens coming down to Earth to kick us out of it ?

well, it wouldnt be as exciting if they were planning an attack on Mercury or Jupiter or something, we prolly wouldnt care much about that and then the movie would lose half its plot lol :P

but every single movie ? it's starting to look like universe hates us :P

yes I watched trailers again and Space Jockeys are indeed somehow connected to humanity beginnings, that would explain it.

Why wouldn't they have it ? wasn't Nostromo a property of W-Y (so called "company") ? cuz I know the colony on Acheron was W-Y installation...

yea, IIRC (because i havnt seen alien in awhile) nostromo was sent to look into LB(or V?)-426 BY Weyland Corp... i think this was also mentioned in Alien 3 just before Ripley killed herself.

i wanna know, (though i dont think it will be in Prometheus) how the Xeno ship ends up AT 426, because they mention a TOTALLY different planet in the trailers.. unless theres more than one Xeno ship (wich IS a feasible explanation)
Title: Re: Prometheus
Post by: Bones on June 02, 2012, 02:16:41 PM
I thought this was LV 426  :P would be logical at least, Prometheus goes there, finds Jockey's ship, rams it as it tries to make a run for Earth, Jockey's ship crashes into the surface and voila :D in addition, LV 426/Acheron was mentioned to have a volcanic activity (especially visible in Aliens Director's Cut when Newt's family discovers the derelict in far worse shape than when Nostromo's crew found it) this might explain why the surface is so rocky in Alien and might explain why there's no Prometheus around.

Why I think this is LV 426 ? simple, just watch Nostromo landing scene and and compare it with Prometheus trailer, look closely on sky, in both movies there are two planets visible, ringed gas giant and smaller planet next to it.

Why LV 426 is unknown to Nostromo crew ? simple, Weyland Corp. classified all the data about it, most likely after they foundout about Prometheus fate.

All this would explain even better the motivation of the company to retrieve xenomorph specimen in Alien, Mother in all Weyland ships must have had the data about previous encounter with Jockey's ship in memory waiting to be awaken upon picking up the signal from crashed ship.

Oh and I guess folks in Prometheus wouldn't call the planet LV 426 or Acheron as these were names given somewhere between the events in Alien and Aliens (when Hedley's Hope colony was founded) so this planet will have different name I guess.

It's just my theory :P a bit far fetched too :P

scratch that... I didn't know it's out already :P

Indeed it is a totally different planet. The sequal might lead up to Alien but this movie for sure wont.

(i posted this at Excal forums in the thread there about the film...  might as well post it here also lol)

i am looking forward to seeing it...
and of course i shall be doing it proper by viewing it in the IMAX 3D theater (http://www.imax.com/movies/m/prometheus-an-imax-3d-experience/) that we have in downtown Providence, Rhode Island...  :D

(that link is for a list of participating theaters for Prometheus: An IMAX 3D Experience in the US and Canada)

im personally gonna wait a short while, until next week, to see it... i have no doubts the theater will be overpacked until then...
i prefer to see a film in the middle of the week, preferably during early afternoons, and a short while after the movie is released...
then you can have a better pick of seats with friends, and more stretching room lol

but i am really stoked to see it!!!

COMPLETELY SPOILER FREE

After seeing it opening weekend......meh, IMO was poorly paced, poorly edited...stupid and ill thought out logic of supposed intelligent characters and their actions, musical score that was out of place and not even needed in many scenes.
Considering I knew the premise and was not expecting the same intensityof alien/aliens.Personally I felt cheated and expected a half intelligent sci-fi film, but ended up watching a deus ex machina of convoluted and ill thought out characters and actions, my only high is that they spared no expense for the FX...shame thats were all the money went
...Ironically I watched Iron Sky on blu ray same weekend, considering they are at opposite ends of sci fi entertainment the latter was a better viewing experience.

As for all the spiel of what they'll may or may not put out on dvd/BD release I doubt it will make any difference to the overall feel/opinion of it, on a side note... FFS Ridley please leave any Bladerunner sequals/re-imagining the **** alone.

I feel that it was good, but not very good. As Tally stated, the effects were incredible. But the story/acting left a pretty good amount to be desired. It wasn't that bad, but I expected more.

It did leave an opening at the end for a sequel but well... we'll see.

I agree with the both of you, but I will add that a special edition re-edit, or even a carefully-crafted sequel could make serious amends for the hodgepodge mess of a story that this beautiful film was saddled with.
