Due to issues beyond my control, we are required to "optimize" the forums. :readme: Basically, the host server is stating that we are running too many queries based on the number of posts and users on the forums. As such, any user who has not logged in in the past 2 years has been removed. Additionally, threads and posts will being being trimmed if they offer no significant contribution to the community.
I understand some of you may not like this decision, but the ONLY alternative right now is for the site to be shut down. The host server has given me THREE business days to correct the problem. If you have any questions, please direct them to myself or Jimmy. Thank you.

ouch. So you guys are basically restarting BCC?
-
Hey if it's better for the server Great! ...
-
the host is in the wrong, get a host that doesnt complain cause their server is too weak, lol
-
Um, its a matter of $$$. I already had the host for my own sites. When the original host of BCC was up, offered to have it transferred to my host. The problem is that the forums are out of date and just plain need either rebuilt or revamped. Neither of which look liek they are in the near future.
-
this site really needs an update
-
You're telling me. I can't even run certain maintenances from the admin panel because it pops up an error about the database being out of date.

not rly, you could slap this site on a nice p2h host, or a good free host, that would be a slap in the face to a paid host for the move their trying to force on you :)

I'm an IT Professional specialising in operations.
I thought you may wish to know that the most significant cause of large numbers of queries is near certainly the search feature. You may wish to consider disabling this for at least the next 3 days.
-
I'd be happy for most of my old bridge mod threads to be culled. I try and rationalise them as I go along anyway.
-
Sounds like a poor host to be honest. I'll see if I can find a long term replacement for you guys. How much do you pay for the server?
-
Panic stations! :hurr: :hurr:
-
Is it just me or has uploading pics been disabled?
-
What can we do to help?
-
Good luck.

That alone won't work.

Ok, a few things...
First - yes, picture uploading has been disabled. You may all groan, BUT, this is the only forum I am a member of that allows it. All others require you to have an external host and then link the image.
Second - Its not an issue of having a poor host. The host server I have is not designed for hosting forums. In fact, it is technically in the terms of use that you will not use the server for hosting LARGE forums. And this is a pretty large forum.
Third - In terms of $$$...thats the thing, I already have the server for my other sites. I host BCC free of charge basically for Jimmy. [even though he tries to pay me ;) ]
Fourth - the server host has let me know exactly what is causing the issue, and I am working with them and the admin/web staff here to fix it. Its basically the result of BOTS and spam, so it seems.

If you can suggest a free hosting package which will support the site better without sacrificing in regard to ads and page speed then please do so.

That sounds like a real poor one..
Still we'd like to hear what you pay.
And please no free hoster, they all suck.
-
Ok folks, the small changes I made were enough to please the host. All is now well.
Attachments will remain disabled though. So you will have to link pictures and files offsite.

so, do you know any free image hosts that still allow you to load your image in the thread? so many of them don't any more.
-
photobucket for one...how i got my other pics up and so people can d/l them of BCF
-
imageshack and photpbucket work just fine.

What, you don't accept sex as payment? What kind of man are you? :funny ;)
-
LOL. Yep, as stated above, Imageshack and Photobucket work wonders.
Basically, I have the server space for my own sites. There are currently 3 sites on it, with a fourth to come. Only one is truly "MINE". I pay about $100 a year and get unlimited space and bandwidth. I also have unlimited emails, anti-spam, SSL, paypal, and support for any other features I may need. So the host is actually a VERY good host and I highly recommend them. BUT, it is in their terms as to certain activity. Once I was able to speak to them, I found out the main issues and got them taken care of. It wasnt the number of posts, it was CERTAIN posts that had been locked and archived a long time ago. That and CERTAIN user accounts. Both the posts and accounts were spam bots. Additionally, a lot of resources were being used on the search functions. So that was disabled for all but registered users.
Speaking of which, we had something like 400-500 users that had either: A-never posted, B-only posted once, or C-not posted in over 3 years. They were subsequently removed.
-
When I'm in a hurry, I use TinyPic. When I'm not, Photobucket.
-
Well, I guess that means we'll never hear anything out of Captain Russell again LOL
Glad all is well Vip!
-
ROFLMAO! BUURN!!
Shame it had to come to that, but anything to keep the place up and running, would hate to see the last bastion of BC modding disappear.
-
Also u guys can upload to facebook, a few of us here have accounts with Chris Jones gaming where we upload also u can link pics from twitter too - Just saying lol :idk:
-
Yeah, it's not like there's a problem with finding alternatives.

You must be talking about search bots only and not actual people since i've never been able to use it while logged out.
