Title: Kobayashi Maru TMP mission vid
Post by: Lurok91 on July 17, 2012, 10:27:35 AM
Before I go figure might as well post last wip in case inspires anyone else/shows what even novice mission scripter can do.  This was my first play-around with mission scripting in wake of finishing SP Mod.  Amazed no-one's done the classic TMP Kobayashi Maru  before, but I guess before baz's TWOK bridge wouldn't really have worked... :)

Fascinating! There's poultry few good modifications for this game that are Single Player compatible and even fewer that actually *create new missions* to do. Sure there's Kobayashi Maru and the rest but I still feel nothing has really changed much as far as SP is concerned.

Knowing BCs limitations and the effort it'd require to do it it's almost futile to say this aloud but... what'd really kick this game up a notch is if we had another campaign. Something fresh for Single Player so we can play through a new structured storyline instead of just doing ye olde Quick Battle over and over. Spawn, kill ships, felix says you win, add more ships, fight, felix says you win, add more ships yadayada repeat until dead or bored.

I dunno, just seems like SP is so static there's little room for innovation. Imagine if all the BC modders that have poured efforts into Quick battle switched over to SP and started working on a campaign. Mmmmm, *daydream*  :D

There have been attempts to create some missions: Quick Battle Replacement, we did some in DS9FX but they were all ran in QB or an equivalent QB aka QBR. There were some attempts but we always lacked resources: script writers, voice actors, modelers...

I can perfectly understand that you can only do so much with the SP content provided by Totally Games. It's just to tempting to imagine how cool it would be to have a new campaign, something as well put together as the original so it's not just Quickbattle or the same old Maelstrom over and over.

new campaigns (other than the ones just mentioned) have been tried several times before (mostly many years ago at BCU) but each time a project was attempted, it inevitably died...
